To find out whether a cloud YouTube streaming service costs less than leaving your PC on, compare the same workload over the same number of hours. Measure the PC’s actual power draw at the wall, multiply its monthly kilowatt-hours by your household’s applicable marginal electricity rate in ₹/kWh, then compare that result with the cloud service’s actual billed amount after currency conversion, taxes and payment fees.
There is no single answer for every Indian household: the result depends on the PC’s measured draw, streaming hours, tariff and the cloud plan’s current terms. A power supply’s rated wattage is not the PC’s actual consumption.

Make the comparison match the job
First identify what you need to keep running. A cloud service that loops uploaded prerecorded videos is not equivalent to a cloud PC running live gameplay, a cloud encoder processing a camera feed, or a relay sending one live stream to multiple destinations. Compare like with like: the same content type, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio, number of channels and need for overlays or transcoding.

Those workflows are different from a live production that uses a camera, microphone or capture device.

If your task is an unattended loop of uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for that use case. It plays uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera. Measure wall draw during the real workload
Use a plug-in electricity monitor or another suitable wall meter to measure the computer while it performs the streaming task you want to price. A power supply’s rated wattage is not a measurement of the PC’s consumption. If the PC would already be on for other work, measure its draw with and without streaming and use the incremental difference when you want the cost attributable to streaming alone.

Use the actual monthly streaming hours and the marginal rate applicable to the next units on your electricity bill:

- Monthly PC energy (kWh) = average wall draw (W) ÷ 1,000 × streaming hours per month.
- Monthly electricity estimate (₹) = monthly PC energy (kWh) × applicable marginal tariff (₹/kWh).
For example, a hypothetical PC drawing 150 W at the wall for 120 hours in a month would use 18 kWh. At an assumed marginal tariff of ₹8/kWh, the incremental energy charge would be ₹144. These are stated assumptions for arithmetic, not a measured result, a typical-PC benchmark or a recommended current tariff. Substitute your own meter reading and bill rate.

Household electricity tariffs vary by utility, location and consumption slab, so use your own bill or tariff schedule rather than a single India-wide figure. Fixed charges and taxes may affect the bill, but for the incremental cost of running a PC, the relevant energy component is generally the applicable marginal rate for those additional units.
Convert the cloud quote into a comparable bill
Start with the provider’s current price for the plan that covers your actual runtime and workload. Convert its USD subscription price using the payment provider’s exchange rate, then add applicable taxes and foreign-currency or card fees. A generic spot exchange rate may not match the amount ultimately charged. If you have already been billed, use that actual charge.

Check what the quoted plan includes before comparing totals: number of streams or slots, included hours, storage, quality limits, overages, restart behavior and regional availability. Also account for any upload or transfer costs that apply to your setup. Do not compare a bare dollar sticker price with a rupee electricity estimate and call the result a like-for-like total.
Use this comparison checklist
- Workload: prerecorded loop, live gameplay, camera production or stream relay.
- Output: resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio, channels and any overlays or transcoding.
- Runtime: monthly hours and any provider limits, restart rules or expected downtime.
- PC energy: measured average wall draw during the task—or the incremental difference if the PC already runs for another reason.
- Electricity rate: the applicable marginal tariff on your own bill, including relevant tariff details for your area.
- Cloud bill: current subscription terms, converted currency, taxes, payment fees and any overages.
- Operations: local power and internet reliability, upload headroom, monitoring and recovery work, plus the cloud provider’s connection requirements.
- Ownership scope: exclude PC purchase or depreciation if you are comparing only recurring electricity with a subscription. Include hardware costs only if you are evaluating total ownership choices.
YouTube recommends choosing stream settings appropriate to the available upload connection and testing and monitoring stream health. Its guidance is useful for judging local upload capacity and operating requirements, but it does not establish third-party cloud prices or service terms. How to decide which option costs less
Put the two totals beside each other for the same monthly hours and task. If the PC’s incremental electricity estimate is lower than the cloud bill, local streaming may have the lower recurring energy cost—provided you also accept the need for the PC, power and internet connection to remain available and for someone to monitor or recover the stream. If the cloud bill is lower, or avoiding a continuously running home PC is worth the difference to you, cloud streaming may be the better fit. Reliability and time spent operating the setup can matter even when they do not appear on the electricity bill.
There is no verified universal rupee-per-month cost for a PC streaming to YouTube in India: measured power, run time and local tariff determine it. Nor should figures for video viewing energy be substituted for this calculation; a study of viewing or data-center energy may use different system boundaries and does not measure your PC’s streaming electricity.
