You can clear the Epic Games Launcher cache without uninstalling the Launcher or deleting installed games. On Windows, exit the Launcher, open %localappdata%EpicGamesLauncherSaved, and delete only the cache folders named webcache, webcache_4147, and webcache_4430 that are present. On macOS, remove the webcache folder inside ~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. Relaunching the Launcher makes it rebuild fresh cache data.
Epic Games Support recommends this reset for display problems and errors that stop the Launcher or games from working correctly. Because the documented locations contain Launcher cache data rather than game-installation folders, the procedure is designed to preserve your installed games.

What clearing the cache actually changes
The Epic Games Launcher stores temporary web content in cache folders. That content helps the Launcher display its interface and load account, store, library, and game-related screens. If cached content becomes stale or damaged, the Launcher can show a blank or malformed window, remain stuck while loading, or display an error even though the game files themselves are still installed.
Clearing the cache removes those temporary Launcher files. The next time you start the application, it creates a new cache as needed. Epic describes the step this way: “Clearing the cache can resolve display issues or errors that prevent the Epic Games Launcher or games from working correctly.” It is therefore a troubleshooting reset, not a game-file repair and not an uninstall.

What is removed
- On Windows, the procedure targets the
webcache,webcache_4147, andwebcache_4430folders inside the Launcher’sSaveddirectory. - On macOS, it targets the
webcachefolder inside the Launcher cache directory. - Only folders that actually exist on your computer are removed. Epic notes that a Windows installation may contain only one or two of the listed folders.
What is not removed
- The Epic Games Launcher application itself remains installed.
- Installed game folders are not part of the documented cache paths.
- You do not need to uninstall and reinstall your games to perform this reset.
- Game files are not validated or repaired by deleting the Launcher cache; those are separate operations.
The safety boundary is simple: open the documented directory and delete only the specifically named cache folders. Do not delete the entire Saved folder, the parent EpicGamesLauncher folder, or any game-installation directory.
Before you start: a safe cache-clearing checklist
Cache files should not be changed while the Launcher is running. Use this short checklist before opening the relevant folder:
- Save any work in other applications and close windows you do not need.
- Exit Epic Games Launcher rather than merely closing its visible window.
- Confirm that you are working in the Launcher cache path for your operating system.
- Delete only the named
webcachefolders that are present. - Leave every other file and folder untouched.
- Start the Launcher again and allow it time to rebuild its cache.
If the Launcher is frozen, a normal window close may not be enough. Use the operating-system-specific exit method below so the application is no longer active before you remove cache files.

Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache on Windows
The Windows procedure uses the local application-data directory. It does not require an uninstall, an administrator command, or access to the folders where your games are installed.
1. Exit the Launcher from the system tray
- Look at the lower-right corner of the Windows taskbar.
- If the Epic Games icon is hidden, click the small arrow to show additional notification-area icons.
- Right-click the Epic Games icon.
- Choose Exit.
This step matters because a running Launcher can keep cache files open or immediately recreate them while you are trying to delete them. If the icon is no longer visible after choosing Exit, continue to the next step.
2. Open the local application-data directory
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
- Enter
%localappdata%. - Press Enter.
Windows opens your user-specific local application-data folder. The percent signs are part of the path variable, so enter the text exactly as shown.
3. Navigate to the Launcher cache folders
- Open the folder named
EpicGamesLauncher. - Open its
Savedsubfolder. - Look for the following folders:
webcachewebcache_4147webcache_4430
Different installations can contain different combinations. Epic says only one or two of these folders may be present, so do not treat a missing folder as an error.

4. Delete only the cache folders that exist
- Select each of the listed folders that you can see.
- Delete them using the normal Windows delete command.
- Do not select unrelated files or folders in
Saved.
You may see one, two, or all three names. Delete only the matching names that are present. Do not create a folder that is missing, and do not substitute a similarly named folder.
5. Relaunch the Launcher
Start Epic Games Launcher normally from its shortcut or Start menu entry. The first launch after the reset may need to rebuild temporary web data. Once the interface loads, check whether the display problem, loading failure, or related error has cleared.
Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache on macOS
macOS stores the documented Launcher cache in your user Library. The Library folder is normally hidden from routine Finder navigation, so the quickest supported route is Finder’s Go to Folder command.
1. Exit Epic Games Launcher
- Close Epic Games Launcher.
- Make sure it is no longer running before changing its cache folder.
The cache should be removed only after the application has exited. If the Launcher remains open, close it fully and then continue.
2. Open the cache location in Finder
- Open Finder.
- Choose Go in the menu bar.
- Select Go to Folder….
- Enter
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. - Press Enter.
The tilde at the beginning represents your macOS user home folder. Enter the path exactly, including the capitalization and periods in com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher.
3. Move the webcache folder to the Trash
- Find the folder named
webcache. - Move it to the Trash.
- Do not remove unrelated cache directories.
If the expected folder is not displayed, do not create a replacement and do not delete the entire parent directory. Recheck that the Launcher is closed and that the path was entered exactly.
4. Empty the Trash
- Control-click the Trash icon.
- Choose Empty Trash.
Emptying the Trash completes the removal of the old cache files. After that, reopen Epic Games Launcher so it can generate fresh temporary data.

The operating-system paths differ, but the principle is the same: stop the Launcher, remove only its web cache, and let the application recreate temporary files on the next start.

Can this delete your installed games?
Following the documented cache procedure does not require uninstalling installed games. The Windows location is under %localappdata%EpicGamesLauncherSaved, while the macOS location is under ~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. Those are Launcher cache locations, separate from the directories that contain game installations.
The risk comes from deleting the wrong item, not from the cache reset itself. Keep the following boundaries in mind:
- Do not choose an uninstall option in Windows, macOS, or the Epic Games interface.
- Do not remove the entire
EpicGamesLauncherdirectory. - Do not remove the complete
Saveddirectory on Windows. - Do not delete folders inside the locations where your games are installed.
- Do not use a broad “clean all” action when the documented procedure calls for specific folders.
If you are uncertain about a selected item, stop and verify its name before deleting it. The correct Windows selections begin with webcache; the correct macOS selection is the folder named exactly webcache.
When cache clearing is the right troubleshooting step
Cache clearing is most relevant when the Launcher’s interface or loading behavior suggests stale or damaged web content. Examples include a blank Launcher window, a visibly malformed interface, a page that will not finish loading, or an error associated with Launcher content that previously worked.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsEpic’s guidance covers problems that prevent the Epic Games Launcher or games from working correctly, but cache deletion is not a universal fix. It does not repair corrupted game files, replace missing installations, or change the Launcher version. If the problem is inside the game data itself, deleting Launcher web cache may have no effect.
Use the symptom to decide whether to try it
| Symptom | Why a cache reset may be reasonable | What the reset does not address |
|---|---|---|
| Blank or malformed Launcher interface | Old or damaged web content may be preventing the interface from rendering correctly. | It does not repair unrelated operating-system display problems. |
| Launcher remains stuck while loading | Rebuilding temporary Launcher data can remove stale loading content. | It does not guarantee a fix for every connection, account, or service problem. |
| An error appears while Launcher pages fail to work | Removing the affected web cache gives the Launcher a clean local starting point. | It does not validate or repair installed game files. |
| A game’s files are damaged or incomplete | There is no direct cache benefit established for the game files themselves. | Game-file repair is a separate troubleshooting task. |
What to do if a cache folder is missing
Do not assume that every listed folder must exist. On Windows, Epic specifically notes that an installation may contain only one or two of webcache, webcache_4147, and webcache_4430. Delete the folders you can see and leave the others alone.

On macOS, the documented target is webcache. If it is not present:
- Confirm that Epic Games Launcher is fully closed.
- Use Finder’s Go > Go to Folder… command again.
- Re-enter
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncherexactly. - Look for the folder named
webcache. - If it still is not present, do not create one and do not delete unrelated files.
A missing cache directory does not justify deleting a broader parent folder. The documented procedure is selective by design.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Closing the window but leaving the Launcher active
The visible window is not the same as a complete exit. On Windows, use the system-tray icon and choose Exit. On macOS, close the Launcher before opening its cache directory. Removing files while the application is still active can prevent deletion or allow old files to return immediately.
Deleting the entire Saved folder
The Windows instructions name individual cache folders, not the whole Saved directory. Select only webcache, webcache_4147, and webcache_4430 when they appear.
Creating folders that are not present
There is no need to create a missing cache folder. Installations vary, and Epic says that only one or two of the Windows folders may exist. Work with the folders that are actually present.
Removing game-installation folders instead
The cache paths are not game-library paths. If you find yourself browsing a drive or directory that contains your installed game names, you are no longer in the documented cache location. Stop and return to the operating-system-specific path above.
Expecting cache deletion to repair game files
Cache clearing resets Launcher web data. It is not a game-file verification or repair operation. If the Launcher opens normally afterward but a particular game still reports a file problem, the remaining issue is outside the scope of this cache reset.

What to check after relaunching
After the Launcher starts again, check the original symptom rather than judging the operation only by whether the window opens. For a blank or malformed interface, confirm that menus and pages render normally. For a loading problem, check whether the Launcher can progress past the point where it previously stopped. For an error, see whether the same message returns under the same action.
- If the symptom is gone, no further cache action is needed.
- If the Launcher rebuilds its cache and the same symptom immediately returns, repeating the deletion is unlikely to add a different result.
- If the Launcher opens but a game remains unable to work, remember that cache clearing does not repair game files.
- If a cache folder was not present, record that fact when describing the problem to Epic Games Support.
Do not keep deleting broader folders in an attempt to force a different outcome. The documented reset is limited to the named cache directories.
Frequently asked questions
Will clearing the Epic Games Launcher cache uninstall my games?
No. The documented Windows and macOS paths contain Launcher cache data, not game-installation folders. Delete only the named cache folders and leave every other directory untouched.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do I have to delete all three Windows folders?
No. Delete whichever of webcache, webcache_4147, and webcache_4430 are present. Epic notes that only one or two may exist.
Should I create a missing webcache folder?
No. Do not create missing folders. The Launcher can rebuild cache data when it needs to, and the documented procedure is to remove existing folders only.
Does clearing cache repair corrupted game files?
No. It resets temporary Launcher web data. Game-file validation or repair is a separate issue.
Why must the Launcher be fully exited first?
Cache files can be in use while the Launcher is running. Exiting first ensures that you are changing the files after the application has stopped using them.
