Google’s Gboard help pages do not document a dedicated button for clearing recently used emojis. On Android, try clearing Gboard’s cache first; if that does not change the emoji row, clearing the app’s storage or data is a broader reset that restores Gboard to its default state. Google does not specifically guarantee that either step removes recent emojis. Its checked iPhone and iPad guidance does not describe an emoji-history reset.
Clear Gboard’s cache on Android first
Google’s Android troubleshooting instructions recommend clearing Gboard’s cache as a troubleshooting step. Menu names vary by Android device, but the general path is:

Open the phone’s Settings app.

Tap Apps or Apps & notifications, then select Gboard. If you do not see it, search the app list or Settings.

Open Storage & cache or, on some devices, Storage.

Tap Clear cache, then open Gboard and check whether the recent-emoji row has changed.

Clearing cache is a troubleshooting step, not a documented command to erase emoji history. Gboard’s Android keyboard guide explains how to open the emoji panel and insert emojis, but it does not describe a control for clearing the recent list.
If clearing cache does not work
Clear Gboard storage or data
In the same Gboard storage screen, choose Clear storage or Clear data if your device offers it. Google says this resets Gboard to its default state. It is broader than clearing the cache, so you may need to restore custom preferences. Google’s instructions do not promise that this reset clears recent emojis specifically, or that it will do so on every device or Gboard version.

What the community suggestion establishes
A Google Android Community Product Expert suggested clearing cache and then storage for an emoji-related issue in a reply dated May 22, 2025. That is community advice, not an official guarantee or a documented recent-emoji clearing procedure. If the recent row remains after the reset, the checked guidance provides no guaranteed next step.
What iPhone and iPad users can try
Google’s Gboard guide for iPhone and iPad covers using the keyboard and emojis. Its iOS troubleshooting guidance includes keyboard and dictionary-related help, but the checked instructions do not identify a way to erase recent emojis.

Clear my dictionary concerns learned words; Google does not document it as an emoji-history control. Removing and re-adding Gboard is also not established in the checked guidance as a way to clear the recent-emoji list, so do not rely on either action for that result.
