Use the cleaning method approved for your exact earbud model and the part you are cleaning. For many Galaxy Buds, that means a soft, dry brush or cotton swab; Apple publishes a separate, limited wet-cleaning procedure for the mesh on AirPods 3, AirPods 4, and AirPods 5. Do not treat either method as universal. Keep liquids and sharp tools away from openings, and let cleaned earbuds dry fully before wearing or charging them.
Before you clean, identify the model and the part
Check the manufacturer’s instructions for your exact generation. Then identify whether you are cleaning a removable silicone tip, speaker mesh, outer body, sensor, charging contact, or case port. A method permitted for one area or model may damage another.

How to clean Galaxy Buds with removable tips
Samsung’s instructions for several Galaxy Buds models call for dry cleaning. Remove a tip only if it is designed to come off, and do not force it.

- Use a cotton swab or soft, dry brush to remove accessible debris from the tip and speaker mesh.
- Wipe the inside of the tip with a soft, dry cloth.
- Clean accessible charging contacts and sensors with a cotton swab. If contacts become wet, dry them thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
- Align the tip with its latch and reinstall it so it covers the latch.
- Make sure the earbuds are clean and dry before wearing them or putting them in the charging case.
Samsung warns against holding the earbuds upright while cleaning and against using liquids such as alcohol or soapy water, which could carry debris or liquid inside. It also warns that metal or wire brush bristles can damage mesh or internal components. Debris on the mesh or inside a tip can affect audio quality. Open-type earbuds and models without removable tips
Do not try to remove a tip that the design does not have. Samsung describes Galaxy Buds3 as open-type and without earbud tips, while Buds3 Pro have tips. For Buds, Samsung also cautions against harsh chemicals such as alcohol and acetone. Follow the instructions for the particular model rather than applying the removable-tip steps to an open-type earbud. See Samsung’s model-specific information.
Apple’s mesh-cleaning method applies only to named AirPods
Apple’s UK support article, published September 18, 2026, gives a specific procedure for the meshes on AirPods 3, AirPods 4, and AirPods 5. It describes using a Belkin AirPods Cleaning Kit or a method involving micellar water containing PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, distilled water, a soft-bristled children’s toothbrush, two small cups, and a paper towel.

For the described method, clean only the indicated mesh areas. Brush in circles for about 15 seconds, then blot; repeat the brush-and-blot sequence three times for each mesh. Rinse the brush with distilled water and repeat the steps using distilled water. Allow the AirPods to dry for at least two hours before use or charging. For AirPods, Apple advises wiping the body with a cloth slightly dampened with fresh water after exposure to substances such as soap, shampoo, lotions, perfumes, solvents, detergent, sunscreen, oil, or hair dye, then drying it with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not put AirPods under running water or use sharp objects or abrasives.

For the case, Apple says to remove debris from the charging port with a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush. Do not put anything into the charging ports, and keep liquid out of them. These instructions are specific to Apple’s guidance; check another manufacturer’s instructions before using moisture on its device.
Can you use alcohol or wash silicone ear tips?
Do not assume alcohol, soap, or another cleaner is safe because it works on a different device. Samsung’s cited guidance says not to use liquids such as alcohol or soapy water when cleaning Galaxy earbuds, and its model-specific guidance warns against alcohol and acetone. The Apple mesh procedure above uses a specified solution only for named mesh areas; it does not authorize that solution—or alcohol—on other earbuds or surfaces.

The cited instructions support gently removing and dry-cleaning tips on the Galaxy Buds models they cover; they do not establish a universal method for washing silicone tips. Check the instructions for your exact model before rinsing or soaking a tip. If removal is not intended, do not force it.

Choose tools and drying time by device
Soft, dry cloths, cotton swabs, and soft, dry brushes are useful only where the manufacturer’s instructions support them. Apple names the Belkin AirPods Cleaning Kit for its specified mesh procedure. These tools are not interchangeable across models.
