Unplug the charger, then gently wipe the back of the Gear S3 and the charging dock with a clean, soft, dry cloth. Make sure both surfaces are dry and free of debris before reconnecting them. If the watch still will not charge, check its position, dock compatibility, cable and power connection, then follow Samsung’s troubleshooting steps.
Clean the watch and dock safely
- Disconnect the charger from power and remove the watch. Do not clean the watch while it is sitting on the dock.
- Wipe both charging surfaces gently. Use a clean, soft, dry cloth on the rear of the watch and the dock’s charging surface. Samsung’s regional guidance identifies sweat, liquid and dust as material to remove from charging terminals; its Hong Kong page applies to products in that region. Samsung Hong Kong guidance and Samsung US troubleshooting both specify a soft, dry cloth.
- Check that the surfaces are dry and clear. Do not reconnect power if you see liquid or debris on either charging surface. Samsung warns that foreign material on wearable charging terminals may damage them during charging.
Do not scrape the contacts, take the dock apart, or apply solvents, wet wipes, abrasive tools or conductive cleaners. Samsung’s cited maintenance guidance calls for a soft, dry cloth, not chemical treatment or scraping.

Check placement, dock compatibility and power
- Use a Gear S3-compatible dock. Samsung identifies the Gear S3 wireless charging dock as model EP-YO760 and advises using a dock designed for the specific watch model. Regional SKU suffixes may differ. Samsung UK model listing
- Center the watch on the dock. Confirm it is seated correctly and that nothing is obstructing the space between watch and charger. If the dock’s LED flashes red or the watch displays a charging error, remove the watch and reposition it correctly.
- Check the power path. Inspect the dock cable and its connections, and connect the dock to an approved Samsung wall adapter using approved charging accessories. Look for liquid damage, a cracked or lifted casing, or broken or bent parts; stop using damaged equipment.
Samsung lists the Gear S3 among watches supporting Qi wireless charging, but still says the charging dock must be designed for the watch model. A generic claim that a charger works with “Samsung watches” is not as specific as confirming Gear S3 compatibility.

If the Gear S3 still will not charge
- Reconnect the watch after cleaning and positioning it correctly. If a charging indicator does not appear, press the watch’s Home/Power key once.
- Leave it connected for at least one hour before judging whether it is charging. Samsung gives this as a troubleshooting minimum; the actual charging time varies with the charger and the watch’s state.
- If charging still fails, or the dock or watch is physically damaged, contact Samsung support or service. The fault may involve the dock, battery or watch hardware, and cleaning cannot fix a hardware failure.
