Keep the earbuds dry, avoid scraping or pressing hard, and do not use alcohol or solvents. Samsung’s instructions vary by model and region, so use a damp-cleaning method only if Samsung explicitly allows it for your exact model and the specific part you are cleaning.
What to use—and what to avoid
A clean, dry cotton swab is the simplest starting point. Samsung recommends cotton swabs for the charging contacts on both earbuds and inside the case in its US cleaning guide and Canada’s multi-generation cleaning guide.

- Use a light touch; do not scrape, press hard, or use sharp or metal objects.
- Avoid alcohol, acetone, other solvents, and chemicals where Samsung’s instructions prohibit them.
- Do not assume a cleaning direction for one Buds generation or component applies to another.
How to clean the earbud and case contacts
- Check the model instructions. Identify your Galaxy Buds generation if possible, then consult Samsung’s guidance for that product and your region.
- Remove the earbuds. Inspect the small contacts on each earbud and the corresponding contacts in the case cradle for visible debris.
- Wipe gently with a dry cotton swab. Use a clean area of the swab as needed, and avoid pushing debris into the case or scraping the contact surfaces.
- Dry any moisture before charging. If sweat or liquid is present, use a clean, soft cloth to dry the contacts and let the earbuds dry fully before use or charging. Samsung warns that sweat or liquid on the contacts can contribute to corrosion.
- Check charging. Put the earbuds back in the case and see whether they charge. If not, follow Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance.
Why Samsung’s instructions differ
Cleaning directions can vary by both generation and part. Samsung’s Galaxy Buds4 guidance specifies a dry cloth for debris on the case contacts. By contrast, Samsung Canada’s Galaxy Buds3 series instructions allow a limited method for the case contacts: lightly moisten a cotton bud with distilled water, wipe gently, remove moisture with a dry bud, and leave the case open until completely dry.

That Buds3 case method is not a general instruction for every Galaxy Buds model, and it should not be transferred to the earbuds themselves. Unless Samsung’s instructions for your exact model and the part in question explicitly allow a limited damp method, stick to dry cleaning.

If the earbuds still will not charge
Dirty contacts are one possible factor, but charging problems can have other causes. After cleaning and drying, use Samsung’s charging troubleshooting steps. If the problem continues, contact Samsung support or a service center.
