After each use, switch off your trimmer, disconnect it from power, and brush away loose hair. Rinse parts or apply blade oil only if the instructions for your exact model allow or require it: trimmers differ in what can get wet and whether their blades need lubrication.
Clean the trimmer after each use
- Switch it off and disconnect power. Unplug it or remove it from its charger before cleaning, following the model’s instructions.
- Remove permitted attachments. Take off the comb or attachment only if the manual says it is removable. Brush loose hair from the comb, blade area, and hair chamber with the supplied cleaning brush. Wahl’s official maintenance guide puts brushing after every use: “After each use, whisk away any loose hairs from your clipper or trimmer and brush away the hair from the blades.” Read Wahl’s maintenance guide.
- Check before using water. Consult the manual or water-resistance marking for your exact model. Some instructions permit rinsing a head or attachment but prohibit rinsing the handle or main body; others do not allow rinsing. A removable part is not automatically washable.
- If rinsing is allowed, dry the parts fully. Shake off excess water and leave the parts to air-dry completely before reassembling or storing the trimmer. Follow any special drying warning: a Philips manual, for example, cautions against rubbing delicate trimmer teeth with a towel or tissue.
- Oil only when instructed. Apply the specified oil to the specified blade parts and at the interval in your manual. Do not assume that oil is needed after every use—or at all.
- Store it protected and dry. Reassemble once dry and use the supplied protective cap or comb if available, so the blade is less likely to be damaged in storage.
Check your model’s water and oil instructions
Manufacturer instructions differ even within broad product categories. For example, Panasonic gives oiling directions for some shavers, epilators, trimmers, and body groomers, while a Philips manual for a particular trimmer says lubrication is unnecessary. Wahl recommends blade oil in its maintenance guidance. These examples are not interchangeable rules for every model.

Use the instructions for your device to confirm what can be removed, what can be rinsed, which cleaning method is permitted, whether oil is required, and how parts should dry. What to avoid
- Do not rinse the whole trimmer unless its manual explicitly permits it.
- Do not force off a head or attachment that the instructions do not identify as removable.
- Do not use hard objects, abrasive agents, or aggressive liquids where the manual prohibits them.
- Do not rub delicate teeth or foil with a towel or tissue if the instructions warn that this can cause damage.
- Do not add oil simply because another brand or model recommends it.
If you need a replacement brush or oil
Use the cleaning brush supplied with the trimmer when possible. If it is missing, choose a small brush suitable for clearing hair from the blade area and attachments; do not assume a replacement will fit a particular holder or accessory mount. Buy blade oil only when your model’s manual calls for it, and follow its application directions. A hygienic spray or other blade-care product mentioned by a manufacturer is an optional, brand-specific accessory, not a universal cleaning requirement.
