For a Kydex Glock 48 IWB holster, remove the pistol, wipe out lint and grit, wash the holster with warm water and mild detergent if needed, and let it dry completely. Avoid high heat and prolonged direct sunlight. Leather and other synthetic holsters may need different care, so follow the maker’s instructions for your exact model. Clean the Glock 48 separately according to its owner’s manual.
Clean the holster safely
- Remove the pistol first. Follow safe firearm-handling practices and keep the firearm out of the cleaning area. Do not put a loaded pistol into a cleaning workflow.
- Check the holster’s care instructions. Material, finish, construction, and hardware can differ even among holsters made for the Glock 48. Use the manufacturer’s directions for your specific holster rather than assuming another maker’s advice applies.
- Remove loose debris. Inspect the inside for lint, grit, and other buildup. Wipe it with a soft, clean cloth; dirt left inside can abrade the firearm’s finish. Galco recommends wiping the interior with a clean damp cloth, especially after dusty use (Galco care instructions).
- Wash only as directed. For Kydex, SWI specifies warm water and mild detergent, while C&G’s Glock 48/MOS Kydex page recommends a damp cloth and cool, soapy water. These are examples for those makers’ products, not universal instructions (SWI Kydex care instructions; C&G Glock 48/MOS product care). Avoid solvents and corrosive chemicals unless your holster maker explicitly approves them.
- Remove residue and dry fully. Rinse or wipe away soap as appropriate for the holster, then allow it to air-dry completely. Dry metal hardware carefully to help prevent corrosion. Do not speed drying with a hair dryer, oven, radiator, hot dashboard, or prolonged direct sunlight; heat can deform Kydex.
- Check the holster before carrying. Look for visible warping or cracks and check that retention and mounting hardware remain secure. There is no universal inspection interval or screw-torque value established for every Glock 48 IWB holster, so use the maker’s model-specific adjustment guidance.

Kydex
Mild soap and water are suitable only when consistent with the maker’s instructions. SWI calls for warm water and mild detergent, complete drying, and avoiding high heat and direct sunlight. C&G describes a damp cloth and cool, soapy water for its Glock 48/MOS product. Follow the instructions for your own holster rather than mixing methods from different manufacturers.

Leather and other synthetic materials
Do not assume that a leather or synthetic holster should be soaked, machine-washed, or treated with oil, conditioner, or saddle soap. Galco’s care document advises soft- or damp-cloth cleaning, warns against solvents and corrosive chemicals, and says not to machine-wash its leather or synthetic products; those cautions describe Galco products, not every holster material (Galco care instructions). If your maker does not specify a cleaner or conditioning product, ask the maker instead of applying one by default.

Keep pistol maintenance separate
Holster cleaning does not replace cleaning the Glock 48. GLOCK says to clean and lubricate a pistol before its first firing, after each time it is fired, at least monthly if unused, and after exposure to rain, snow, perspiration, salt water, dirt, or dust. The lubricant’s location and amount depend on the model: “Check the owner’s manual for your GLOCK model for where to apply lubricant and how much to apply.” See GLOCK’s Caring for Your GLOCK guidance and its downloadable G17–G48 owner’s manual and maintenance materials. These are firearm-care instructions, not a schedule for cleaning a holster.

Do not put firearm lubricant or holster-cleaning products on the holster unless its manufacturer permits them. Clean the pistol according to the G48 manual and the holster according to its own care directions.
