The Ninja Luxe Café Pro has two separate maintenance cycles: CLEAN removes coffee oils and grounds from around the brew group, while DESCALE removes internal mineral deposits. Use the cycle whose indicator is lit, then complete the cleanup and fresh-water flush required for that cycle.
The detailed steps below come from Ninja’s official ES701EU support FAQ. Ninja identifies the US machine as model ES701 on its US product page; regional instructions can vary, so follow the guide supplied with your machine if its wording or setup differs.

Which cycle should you run?

How to run the CLEAN cycle
Run CLEAN when its indicator illuminates. Ninja says this cycle removes residual oils and grounds that collect in and around the brew group. The ES701EU FAQ gives an approximate cycle time of six minutes.

- Empty the main drip tray. Water from the cycle drains into it, so leaving it full can cause an overflow.
- Fill the reservoir to the Max Fill line, without going above it.
- Place the double filter in the portafilter. Set the cleaning disc on top with its handle facing up, then put one cleaning tablet in the center of the disc.
- Lock the portafilter into the brew group and press CLEAN.
- When the cycle ends, carefully remove the portafilter and main drip tray; they may contain water. Hand-wash both with warm, soapy water.
How to run the DESCALE cycle
Run DESCALE when its indicator illuminates. Ninja warns that delaying can affect drink quality and may allow the machine to clog or stop working. Its ES701EU FAQ provides two solution choices:
- Ninja descaling powder: Dissolve one sachet in a separate container with 37 fl oz of water, then pour the solution into the reservoir.
- White vinegar: Pour 16 oz of white vinegar into the reservoir, then add water up to the Descale line.
Ninja specifies one sachet for a descaling cycle. Its US ES701 listing identifies descaling powder among the included supplies and lists descaling packets as an accessory; it also lists espresso cleaning tablets and a cleaning disc. The product information is on Ninja’s US ES701 page. The FAQ names vinegar as an alternative; it does not establish that arbitrary third-party descalers or tablets are compatible.

- Empty the main drip tray completely; otherwise, the cycle may overflow.
- Prepare one of the solutions above and pour it into the reservoir.
- Insert the double filter into the portafilter and lock the portafilter into the brew group.
- Set the milk jug on its platform and lower the steam wand into the jug.
- Place an empty cup of at least 18 oz under the portafilter. Remove the center drip tray if necessary to make room.
- Press DESCALE, then press the center dial to start. The machine circulates solution through the steam wand and portafilter. The ES701EU FAQ gives an approximate duration of 90 minutes and says the display shows a countdown.
- When the machine beeps, carefully remove the portafilter, main drip tray, and milk jug; they may contain water. Empty and hand-wash them with warm, soapy water to remove solution residue that could affect coffee taste.
- Fill the reservoir with fresh water to the Max Fill line without exceeding it. Reinstall the main drip tray and portafilter, but leave the milk jug off its platform.
- Run a 12 oz CLASSIC extraction to flush the brew group. With the jug still removed, press PURGE to flush the steam wand.
- Wipe the machine and promptly clean up any descaling splashes.

How to care for the steam wand between descales
Ninja’s ES701EU FAQ recommends purging after frothing to help clear internal residue. Lower the wand without the milk jug so it can rinse automatically. If automatic purging does not happen and PURGE illuminates, lower the wand, remove the jug, and press PURGE before frothing again.

Which removable parts can go in the dishwasher?
Ninja’s ES701EU FAQ distinguishes dishwasher-safe components from parts that should not go in the dishwasher:

How often should you descale?
The reviewed ES701EU FAQ does not give a fixed calendar interval. Follow the DESCALE indicator and your machine’s regional guide rather than choosing an unsupported schedule. Ninja also says bottled water does not eliminate the need to descale, although it may reduce how often descaling is needed.
