To descale, run the brewer’s Clean cycle with 16 oz of white vinegar and water filled to the reservoir’s Full line, then flush the machine with a full-carafe water-only brew. Leave the carafe in place throughout the Clean cycle.
Clean the removable parts after brewing
Wait for the coffee maker to cool. Remove the parts used for that brew, then wash them thoroughly with soap and warm water:

- For grounds brewing, remove the Ninja Grounds Adapter and brew basket.
- For pod brewing, remove the Ninja Pod Adapter and brew basket.
Wash the carafe and brew-through lid with warm soapy water after each use. Use a bottle brush or cloth inside the carafe; do not use a wire brush. A soft foam brush can help clean the carafe more thoroughly.
Rinse and clean the reservoir
Rinse the reservoir after brewing and refill it with fresh water for the next brew. To clean it, empty it and either hand-wash it or put it in the dishwasher. Ninja recommends washing it weekly in the dishwasher’s bottom rack, upright with the opening facing down.

When to run the Clean cycle
The Clean cycle descales calcium buildup that can affect brewing performance or coffee flavor. The Intelligent Clean Cycle Indicator lights orange when the brewer recommends cleaning. Hard water can cause scale to build up more quickly, so the indicator may appear more often.
Choose a descaling solution
Ninja’s vinegar method uses 16 oz of white vinegar, with water added up to—but not above—the reservoir’s Full line. The guide specifies white vinegar for this method. Alternatively, use a descaling solution formulated specifically for coffee makers and follow its package directions. A water-only Clean cycle does not descale the brewer properly. Ninja does not claim that one permitted descaling approach is more effective than the other.

Run the Clean cycle and flush the brewer
- Place the empty carafe under the brew basket.
- Fill the reservoir with 16 oz of white vinegar, then add water up to, but not above, the Full line. If using a coffee-maker descaler instead, prepare it according to its package directions.
- Press CLEAN. When the display highlights the full carafe and 60 oz, press CLEAN again to confirm and start the cycle.
- Keep the carafe under the brew basket for the entire cycle. The cycle takes approximately 75 minutes and pauses while the brewer distributes the cleaning mixture. If you cancel it, the brewer will not be properly descaled.
- When the brewer beeps and displays End, empty the carafe. Wash the reservoir with warm soapy water to remove any cleaning solution that could affect coffee flavor.
- Refill the reservoir with fresh water to the Full line. Run a full-carafe Classic brew with water only, discard the water, then thoroughly clean the carafe and brew basket.

What to do if the display says CLOG
Ninja says CLOG can indicate grounds in the upper or lower needles, or calcium scale in the brew system. First make sure the pod is punctured. If grounds are visible in the needles, switch the brewer off and use a flat wire or plastic clip, such as a paper clip, to clear them. Switch the brewer back on and run a water-only, full-carafe Classic brew. If you cannot see grounds or the message remains, scale buildup may require the Clean cycle.
