CASIO’s care guidance does not recommend vinegar, baking soda, bleach, alcohol, or a special deodorizer for resin straps.
How to clean a resin G-SHOCK strap
- Wipe it regularly. Use a soft cloth to remove sweat, water, dirt, and other residue from the band.
- Wash the resin with water. CASIO’s instructions for resin bands say to wash with water and then wipe dry with a soft cloth. If the watch has been exposed to sea water or mud, rinse it with clean fresh water. CASIO User Maintenance, Module No. 3543
- Dry it before putting it away. Wipe the band and watch thoroughly, including areas where moisture can remain, and store the watch in a cool, dry place.
A soft absorbent or microfiber cloth is suitable for wiping and drying; it is not an odor treatment. CASIO’s mild-neutral-detergent or soapy-water directions in the cited manual apply to metal bands or resin bands with metal parts. They are not a general instruction to soak a standard resin strap or the whole watch.

How to deal with odor that remains
Start by checking whether sweat and moisture are being removed regularly and whether the band dries completely after washing or wear. CASIO notes that sweat or water left on resin, and storage in high humidity, can contribute to premature wear, cuts, and breaks. Its guidance does not establish that a particular home remedy will safely or effectively remove odor from a resin G-SHOCK band.

Inspect the strap if the smell persists. Cracks, lost flexibility, discoloration, looseness, or another abnormality are reasons to stop using the band and seek inspection or replacement. Replacement compatibility depends on the exact G-SHOCK model; a generic resin band should not be assumed to fit.

What to avoid when cleaning
- Do not use solvents or oily products. CASIO warns that thinner, gasoline, solvents, oils, and fats can discolor or damage resin components. Stick to water and a soft cloth for a standard resin band. CASIO Operating Precautions, Module No. 5719
- Do not store the strap while wet. Prolonged wet storage and high-moisture conditions can harm resin over time.
- Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and strong rubbing. These can contribute to color transfer or discoloration; strong rubbing can also affect printed figures on a band.
Odor-resistant bands and skin irritation
CASIO describes a bacteria- and odor-resistant feature on designated bands, saying it protects against odor associated with bacteria forming from sweat. That description applies only to bands identified as having the feature; it is not evidence that every G-SHOCK strap has it. CASIO also says such a band should still be kept clean, and the feature does not prevent a rash caused by an allergic reaction. A smudge-like pattern may appear on resin and, according to CASIO, can be wiped away without affecting skin or clothing.
If wearing the watch causes a rash or other skin irritation, remove it and consult a skin-care professional. The manufacturer’s odor-related statements describe its product feature; they do not quantify the cause or severity of a particular strap’s smell.
