The free update announced for METRO 2033 Redux and METRO: Last Light Redux is available to existing owners at no extra cost. PC players on Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG are scheduled to receive it on October 22, 2026; Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5/Pro, and Windows Store are scheduled for October 29. Japan is scheduled for November, with no exact day stated. These dates come from PLAION’s official Redux update FAQ and are future dates as of October 7, 2026.
This is the Redux update—not an update to Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition or another earlier Metro upgrade. PLAION describes it as a quality-of-life upgrade, not a remake or remaster.

Which Metro games and platforms are included?
The announced free update covers only METRO 2033 Redux and METRO: Last Light Redux. PLAION lists PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms; Nintendo Switch is not included in the announcement.

The franchise has had other upgrades, including Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, but those are separate releases. Check the exact game title in your library before using the Redux dates or steps below.

PLAION describes the update as worldwide, with the Japan timing exception above. The listed dates are the schedule in its FAQ; check that FAQ again near release in case timing changes.
Do existing owners have to buy the games again?
No. If you already own either eligible Redux game, the update is free; you do not need to purchase the same title again. PLAION also says new purchasers automatically receive the updated version when they buy either game. The entitlement applies to the Redux titles named above, not to a different Metro edition.

How to claim and install the update
PLAION confirms the free entitlement and release schedule but does not publish a separate claim button or exact store-by-store navigation for Steam, GOG, Xbox, PlayStation, or Windows Store. On or after your platform’s scheduled date, use the account and library that own the eligible game and check whether an update is available. Do not expect an undocumented claim screen.
- Confirm the game: check that your library entry is METRO 2033 Redux or METRO: Last Light Redux.
- Use the owning account: open the same store or console account that owns that Redux title.
- Check on or after the release date: open the library or installed game page and look for an available game update. Store controls differ, so follow that platform’s own update or support instructions if you need to prompt a check.
- Allow the update to finish: let the platform download and install it before launching the game.
Epic Games Launcher: prompt a manual update
PLAION’s general Epic Games Launcher update guide says automatic updates are enabled by default in most cases. If the Redux update is available but has not started, use this manual fallback:

- Open Epic Games Launcher and select Library.
- Find the installed Redux game and select its Update button if one is shown.
- Wait for the launcher to download and install the update.
This is Epic’s general update process, not a Redux-specific claim flow; an Update button may not appear until the update is released and available to your account.
If the update does not appear
- Check that you are viewing the correct Redux game rather than another Metro title or edition.
- Verify that you are signed in to the account that owns the game.
- Check again on or after the release date for your platform and region.
- Use the platform’s official update or support controls if the game remains unchanged.
What changes—and what does not
PLAION calls this a quality-of-life update bringing visual, performance, and platform enhancements to modern hardware. It explicitly says the update is not a remaster or remake and does not include ray tracing. The FAQ does not provide install-size figures, performance percentages, resolution specifications, or benchmark results, so those should not be assumed.
