Match the controls to the games you play
These features let you shape the controller’s layout and feel around your preferences. They do not establish that one package—or one setting—will make you play better.

Consider paddles if you want extra mapped inputs
The full bundle’s four paddles can be assigned through the Xbox Accessories app. They may suit a layout where you want to reach additional mapped inputs while keeping your thumbs on the sticks. Core does not list paddles in the box, so factor in the cost and availability of adding components separately if you want them.
Adjust stick tension and sensitivity to preference
The controller offers three manual thumbstick tension settings and app options for adjusting sensitivity curves. A different tension or curve may feel more comfortable for a particular game or player, but there is no universally best setting established here.
Decide whether shorter trigger travel suits you
Both packages include the Series 2 controller’s shorter trigger locks. This feature changes the available trigger travel; whether that suits your preferred feel depends on how you play.
Microsoft uses Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 as examples of profile use, adjustable sticks and paddle remapping on its product page. Those are Microsoft’s illustrations of features, not independent tests of performance in either game.

Check compatibility before choosing how to connect
Microsoft lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One connections through Xbox Wireless or the included 9-foot USB-C cable. For Windows 10/11, it lists Bluetooth, a compatible USB cable or an Xbox Wireless Adapter sold separately. Its product page also describes USB connection on Windows 7/8.1, with some functionality unsupported. Mobile compatibility is limited to selected Android and iOS devices and versions, and some functionality may not be supported. Check your specific device and operating system before relying on wireless pairing.
The Xbox Accessories app is available on Xbox consoles and Windows 10/11. Microsoft specifies that button mapping and profile configuration are available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows 10/11.
What to know about battery life
Microsoft advertises “up to 40 hours of battery life per charge” and says actual battery life varies with usage and other factors. Treat that as a manufacturer’s maximum claim, not a guaranteed runtime or an independently verified test result. The official product page does not state a publication date for the claim.

- List the components you will use. If you want paddles, extra thumbsticks, an extra D-pad, a dock and a case in the box, compare the full bundle. If you only want the controller and basics, Core may fit the way you plan to buy.
- Check whether Core can meet your later needs. Microsoft identifies the Complete Component Pack as a separate customization option. Confirm its current contents, regional availability and price before treating it as a way to complete a Core setup.
- Verify platform and connection details. Match Microsoft’s listed connection options to your console, PC or supported mobile device, and check whether the app features you want work on that platform.
- Compare current local listings. Package contents, stock and prices are not established consistently across retailers or regions, so confirm what the exact listing includes before purchase.
