Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For everyday cleaning, start with the regular or balanced suction setting; turn on carpet boost for rugs if your robot offers it. When mopping, choose a carpet response that keeps rugs dry, and use a deeper mop route only when extra coverage is worth a longer run. The exact controls vary by model and software, so confirm what your robot supports in its app or manual.
What suction setting should you use?
For routine hard-floor vacuuming, begin with regular or balanced suction. If visible debris remains, raise suction or schedule another pass if your robot supports it. This is a practical starting point, not a universal manufacturer setting: the best choice depends on the floor, debris, and robot.

On carpet: use carpet boost when available
Carpet boost is generally an automatic response, not a high setting you need to run everywhere. Roborock describes its feature as increasing suction to maximum when the robot detects carpet, then returning to normal suction on hard floors. Check your own model’s documentation because the behavior and availability are not universal. Roborock: What is Carpet Boost?
For heavier debris or a targeted second pass, a stronger suction setting may help if your robot provides one. For light maintenance, a lower-power mode can be an option on some models: iRobot’s support information for the Roomba 900 series describes Eco-Mode as using less power for longer, quieter cleaning and Performance Mode as increasing vacuum power across surfaces. Those descriptions apply to that series, not to every Roomba or other robot vacuum. iRobot: Roomba 900 Series Power Boost

How do you stop a robot mop from wetting a rug?
Before a combined vacuum-and-mop run, check whether the robot detects carpet and what it does when it encounters it. The options can have very different results: the mop may lift, the robot may avoid the rug, or it may cross without mopping.
Choose the carpet response that fits your rug
On Roborock models with these options, the documented choices are Rise, Avoid, Cross, and Ignore. Rise lifts the mop and stops water flow on detected carpet; Avoid skips the carpet; Cross travels over it without cleaning; Ignore treats the area without relying on carpet detection and is described for homes without carpets or mats that may be mopped. Choose based on whether the rug should be crossed dry, skipped, or treated as safe to mop. The names and availability may differ on other robots. Do not assume every robot lifts its mop the same way
Roborock lists the S7, S7MaxV, S7Max Ultra, S8, S8+, S8 Pro Ultra, and Q Revo as models that can recognize carpet ultrasonically and automatically lift the mop. The company recommends this feature for short-pile carpet. This support does not establish that other models detect every rug or provide the same mop clearance. Standard or deep mop route: which should you choose?
Use a standard route when ordinary cleaning speed and adjustable suction or mop intensity matter. On the Roborock models covered by its FAQ, Deep Mop Route minimizes suction and follows a Z-shaped path almost twice as dense as the Standard Mop Route, so it takes longer. Roborock recommends mild or moderate scrub intensity with the deep route. These route details are specific to the models described in that FAQ, not a cross-brand standard. How much water should you use?
Water-flow and scrub controls depend on the model. Roborock’s Q7 family page lists three water-flow levels. Its support FAQ for certain S7 and S8 models says water flow changes with scrub intensity and describes three scrub levels. Roborock Q7 series Roborock: Adjusting S7/S8 scrub intensity
If you are unsure, start with the lowest flow that cleans adequately, particularly when limiting dampness matters, and follow the floor manufacturer’s care instructions. This is a cautious approach, not a universal rule from robot manufacturers. Roborock also says to use only its branded floor cleaner in the water tank to prevent corrosion or damage; that advice is specific to Roborock and should not be assumed to apply to another brand.
Check your model and app before relying on a setting
Features and menu names can vary by robot, app, and firmware. Roborock’s Q7 family page notes that some functions may require an over-the-air update for certain models. Before following model-specific instructions, check your robot’s live app and owner manual for the exact model and software version. Roborock Q7 series
