Use the sizing kit made for the exact smart-ring brand and generation you plan to buy. Wear a sample on your intended finger for at least 24 hours, including overnight, and choose a fit that stays comfortable and secure through ordinary movement. A well-fitted ring helps maintain the sensor contact its maker specifies, but available evidence does not quantify how much sizing changes tracking accuracy.
How do I choose the right smart ring size?
- Choose the model first. Get the sizing kit for the exact brand and generation. Smart-ring sizing can differ from ordinary jewelry sizes and from one manufacturer to another. Oura also says its sizing varies between generations, so do not assume a previous Oura size will transfer. Oura’s sizing instructions identify separate kits by generation.
- Try the sample on the finger you plan to wear it on. If the manufacturer permits, compare other fingers or hands too; finger shape and comfort can vary.
- Wear the sample through a full day and night. Both Oura and Samsung recommend at least 24 hours of wear. That helps you assess comfort as your fingers change during daily activity and sleep.
- Check comfort and stability. Oura describes the fit as “snug but not tight.” Samsung advises making sure the finger feels comfortable and the sizer is neither too small nor too large. It should stay put during normal movement without feeling constricting.
- Set the orientation as directed. For Oura Ring 4, the sensors should face the palm side of your finger. Samsung’s Galaxy Ring sizing instructions likewise describe positioning the sensors and indicator on the palm side. Follow the directions for your particular model.
- Use the maker’s advice if you are between sizes. Oura’s organizational guide recommends choosing the smaller size to keep the sensors in close contact. That is Oura-specific guidance; Samsung’s cited sizing page advises testing for comfort but does not give the same general rule.
Before placing an order, check the instructions and size range for the exact product: Oura’s support page lists Ring 4 sizes 4–15 and a separate Ring 5 kit with sizes 6–13. These ranges are model-specific and may change.

Should a smart ring feel tight?
No. The useful target is secure contact without uncomfortable pressure. A ring that feels fine for a few minutes may become uncomfortable overnight or as your finger changes size during the day, which is why the full wear test matters. If the sample feels constricting, painful, or difficult to remove, do not treat that as a good fit; try another size and follow the manufacturer’s fitting instructions.
Can I use my normal ring size?
Use it only as a rough point of reference, not as the final answer. Oura says its sizing differs slightly from standard US ring sizes and between generations; Samsung says Galaxy Ring sizing may differ from regular ring sizes. A jewelry ring or another brand’s sizer is not a substitute for the kit intended for your chosen smart ring.

How long should I wear the sizing kit?
Wear the sample for at least 24 hours, including sleep. Oura and Samsung both recommend that period so you can judge the fit across everyday and overnight conditions. Samsung also notes that finger size can change between day and night. Follow any additional timing or fitting instructions supplied for your model.
Does ring size affect tracking accuracy?
Fit matters because the ring’s sensors need the contact and placement specified by its manufacturer. However, the available sources do not establish a numerical relationship between a sizing error and tracking accuracy, so there is no supported percentage by which an incorrectly sized ring makes readings worse.

For context, an Oura announcement dated October 9, 2024 reported 79% agreement with polysomnography for four-stage sleep classification in a peer-reviewed, single-night inpatient study involving 35 participants. Brigham and Women’s Hospital researchers conducted the study, which Oura funded. That figure describes sleep-stage classification under those study conditions—not the effect of ring size or a guarantee for an individual wearer. Oura’s announcement also cites an 83% estimate for agreement when technicians score the same night on separate occasions; that is a figure reported by Oura, not a sizing result.
