For most PS5 games, choose the standard DualSense: PlayStation says PS5 games require it. Choose DualSense Edge if you specifically want remappable buttons, adjustable sticks and triggers, back buttons, or control profiles. A DUALSHOCK 4 remains an option for PS4 games played on PS5, but it does not work for PS5 games. For PC, Mac, mobile, accessibility setups, or specialty controllers, check compatibility for the device and game you plan to use.

What makes DualSense the standard PS5 choice?
PlayStation describes DualSense as its PS5 wireless controller. It includes haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, but those effects are implemented in supported games rather than guaranteed in every title. PlayStation’s PS5: The Ultimate FAQ says PS5 games require DualSense because they were designed to use its immersive features.

If you mainly play PS5 games and do not need specialized controls, DualSense is the straightforward starting point. Check the game’s feature information if haptics or trigger effects are important to your choice.

DualSense Edge is aimed at players who want to tailor how the controller operates. PlayStation lists remappable buttons, adjustable stick and trigger settings, changeable stick caps, back buttons, and profiles. Those options can help when a particular layout or control adjustment suits your games or preferences; they do not make Edge automatically better for every player.

Consider it when you can name the settings you expect to use. Current local pricing and comparative performance are not established here, so weigh the customization against the price you see before buying. See PlayStation’s DualSense Edge product information for listed features.

Which PlayStation controller is best for PC, Mac, or mobile?
DualSense and DualSense Edge can connect to supported computers and mobile devices using USB or Bluetooth, but successful pairing does not mean every game or controller feature will work. For PC games
Check the individual game’s support information before choosing a controller. PlayStation advises checking a game’s Steam listing for full or partial controller support. Select PC titles support DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers; some advanced features may require a wired USB connection. PlayStation also notes that DualSense Edge haptics may require USB on PC. The PlayStation gaming on PC guide explains the platform’s PC support.
For Mac and mobile devices
Feature support is more limited than a connection list alone may suggest. PlayStation says DualSense haptics are not compatible with Mac computers or mobile devices, and adaptive triggers are unavailable on Android-based mobile devices. For DualSense Edge, PlayStation likewise says haptics are not compatible with Mac or mobile devices; adaptive-trigger availability depends on the game and is not supported on Android-based mobile devices. Confirm the current device guidance and the game’s own controller support before relying on a particular feature.

What should players with accessibility needs consider?
PlayStation lists the Access controller among its controller options. Because a suitable setup depends on the player and game, consult PlayStation’s current Access controller information for configuration details and compatibility rather than assuming a particular layout will fit.
PS5 also has a second-controller assistance feature: two supported controllers can operate as one player. It requires two controllers, some functions are unavailable on the assist controller, and DualSense Edge can only be the main controller in this setup. See PlayStation’s second-controller assistance instructions for the current requirements.
