Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor a wall with two displays, Raspberry Pi 5 is the most direct choice: it can drive two screens at up to 4K (3840 × 2160) at 60 Hz. Raspberry Pi 4 may be adequate when lower refresh rates or resolutions meet the need. A single Pi 5 connects to no more than two displays directly, so larger walls require multiple playback devices or an external video-wall routing system.
Choose hardware by the wall’s layout and display targets
Start by deciding what each panel must show. A wall may need separate content on each display, the same image duplicated across several panels, or one image arranged as a single canvas spanning the wall. These are different playback and routing problems; the Raspberry Pi’s display specifications alone do not determine the right synchronization software or controller.

- Panel count: How many screens must receive a signal?
- Per-screen mode: What resolution and refresh rate does each display need?
- Content arrangement: Independent outputs, duplicated content, or one extended canvas?
- Synchronization: How closely must motion or transitions align across screens?
- Installation: What are the cable distances, routing, power availability, ventilation, and remote-management needs?
Check the supported modes of the complete signal chain—monitor, cable, adapter, and any intervening routing equipment—not just the Raspberry Pi.

Compare Raspberry Pi 5 and Raspberry Pi 4 display support
| Hardware | Documented display modes | Best fit | Key limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raspberry Pi 5 | Two displays, each up to 3840 × 2160 at 60 Hz, without additional configuration | Two-display installations targeting up to 4K60 per screen | Two directly attached displays maximum |
| Raspberry Pi 4 | Two 4K displays at 30 Hz, or two 1080p displays at 60 Hz. One display on HDMI0 can run at 4K60 with the documented setting while the second runs at a lower supported mode. | Two-display installations whose resolution and refresh-rate targets fit those modes | Dual 4K60 is not its documented dual-display mode |
These modes come from Raspberry Pi Ltd’s display configuration documentation, checked in 2026. The figures describe supported output modes, not a guarantee that a particular video-wall application can render or synchronize content as intended.

Plan for more than two panels
Because Pi 5 has two micro-HDMI outputs, a wall with more than two panels needs a broader design. Options include assigning playback devices to groups of displays or using external video-wall routing or controller hardware. The right arrangement depends on panel count and geometry, whether the content is independent, duplicated, or one spanning canvas, cable distance, and synchronization tolerance.
HDMI extenders, distribution equipment, and video-wall controllers are possible equipment categories, but there is no universal controller recommendation without those installation details. Do not assume a particular device’s screen count or synchronization behavior; confirm its capabilities for the intended layout and software.

Connectors and cables
Pi 5 uses two micro-HDMI outputs. For ordinary monitors with full-size HDMI inputs, use a micro-HDMI-to-HDMI cable for each connection. Raspberry Pi states that no model supports monitor video over USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode, so USB-C should not be part of the display-output plan. Verify that every cable and adapter supports the chosen resolution and refresh rate.

Raspberry Pi recommends 5 V at 5 A for Pi 5 and recommends its 27 W USB-C power supply for that requirement. With a 5 V/3 A supply, peripheral power is limited to 600 mA. Raspberry Pi warns: “Raspberry Pi 5 is a higher-performance computer than Raspberry Pi 4, and you may have problems using an under-powered supply.” See the manufacturer’s getting-started guidance for power details.

Cooling and memory
Raspberry Pi says Pi 5 performs best with active cooling and identifies a case with an integrated fan as one option. Cooling needs vary with workload and enclosure airflow, so plan for the conditions of sustained playback rather than assuming every installation needs the same arrangement.
The Pi 5 product page lists 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB configurations, but does not specify a universal memory requirement for video-wall use. Choose memory based on the playback application and workload. Raspberry Pi Ltd says Pi 5 production will continue until at least January 2036, according to its product page checked in 2026.

Backed by a large global community, you can easily find guides, technical support and shared projects online
Confirm playback software and codecs before deployment
Pi 5 includes an H.265/HEVC hardware decoder enabled by default, as described in Raspberry Pi’s configuration documentation. That establishes a hardware decoding capability; it does not establish that a chosen playback application supports the content, display arrangement, or synchronization method. Check application requirements and test with the actual media and displays.
