Apple announced a U.S. price of $299 for either display, but the wall installation costs more once its mount is included. The two models share the 7-inch display and listed smart-home features; Apple’s announcement does not establish which sounds better in real-world use.
Start with where the display will go
The main decision is physical placement, not a different smart-home feature set. Apple describes the tabletop HomeView for counters, nightstands, and side tables. It has a domed speaker base and a stainless-steel tilting hinge, so it can stand on a surface and angle toward the person using it.

The wall-mounted HomeView is for a fixed wall location, with entryways and hallways among Apple’s examples. It requires a purpose-built mounting option; the mount is not part of the $299 display price. Decide where the display belongs first, then compare the complete setup—including mounting and power—rather than comparing the displays alone.
Think about how you will approach and use the screen in that location. A tabletop unit is the more natural fit if you want it beside a bed, on a kitchen counter, or near a seating area. Its hinge lets you tilt the display toward the person using it, and the surface placement does not commit the device to one wall. A wall-mounted unit makes sense when the screen should have a permanent place on a wall, for example where household members pass through an entryway or hallway.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Also consider what the placement decision means for installation. With tabletop, you are choosing a surface and using the matching USB-C cable Apple says is included. With wall mounting, you must select one of the separate Schneider Home mounting and power choices. The announcement names USB-C Wall Connector and AC Wired options, as well as a PoE Wired option planned for early 2027. It does not give enough detail to determine which approach is right for every home, so check the exact product listing and installation requirements before committing.
Tabletop and wall-mounted HomeView compared
| Factor | Tabletop HomeView | Wall-mounted HomeView |
|---|---|---|
| Best-fit placement | Counter, nightstand, or side table | Wall, including an entryway or hallway |
| Physical design | Domed speaker base; stainless-steel tilting hinge | Attaches to a wall with a purpose-built mount |
| Announced U.S. display price | $299 | $299, before the separate mount |
| Colors announced by Apple | Silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray | Space gray and silver |
| Display | 7-inch Liquid Retina; True Tone; automatic brightness from 0.3 to 500 nits, according to Apple | Same 7-inch Liquid Retina display and features, according to Apple |
| Audio configuration described by Apple | Down-firing woofer and two force-cancelling passive radiators in the domed base, plus two full-range drivers in the display | Two custom drivers and computational audio tuned for on-wall placement |
| Included power item noted by Apple | Matching USB-C cable | Mount and power approach are separate choices |
| Smart-home use | Touch and Siri AI controls, camera feeds, and controls for supported home accessories | Same listed smart-home purpose and feature set, according to Apple |
These are manufacturer specifications and descriptions announced by Apple on October 13, 2026, not independent measurements. The display’s shared size and listed capabilities do not establish equal visibility in every room or viewing angle; no comparative visibility test is available. Likewise, the different speaker configurations do not prove that one version sounds better.
Apple says the display’s automatic brightness range is 0.3 to 500 nits and that both versions have a 7-inch Liquid Retina display with the same features. Those figures describe the product, but they are not a promise of identical viewing comfort in every position or lighting condition. Room layout and the angle from which you will look at the screen remain practical considerations; Apple has not published a comparison showing one form is more visible than the other.

Audio is another difference in design, not a proven reason to buy one model over the other. Apple describes a down-firing woofer and two force-cancelling passive radiators in the tabletop model’s domed base, alongside two full-range drivers in the display. For the wall-mounted model, it lists two custom drivers and computational audio tuned for on-wall placement. There is no independent listening test in the published product information establishing a sound-quality winner. If sound is decisive, wait for hands-on comparisons rather than inferring performance from the component descriptions alone.
Does the wall-mounted HomeView cost more?
The display price announced for each model is $299 in the U.S. Apple separately lists Schneider Home mounting and power options for the wall-mounted model. The following totals are simple additions of Apple’s announced U.S. starting prices; they exclude tax, installation, and any other equipment or service costs.
| Wall-mount power option | Announced U.S. starting price | Display plus option | Timing stated by Apple |
|---|---|---|---|
| Schneider Home Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector | From $59.95 | $358.95 | Apple lists it as a mounting choice; no separate launch date stated |
| Schneider Home Power Mount AC Wired | From $79.95 | $378.95 | Apple lists it as a mounting choice; no separate launch date stated |
| Schneider Home Power Mount PoE Wired | From $129.95 | $429.95 | Planned for early 2027 |
“From” is a starting price, not a guarantee that a particular configuration or installation will cost exactly that amount. Confirm the mount’s exact compatibility, availability, included parts, and installation requirements before buying. Apple identifies these as separate choices, so do not assume one is bundled with the wall display.
So, does the wall-mounted HomeView itself cost more? Based on Apple’s announced U.S. display prices, no: each model is listed at $299. The complete wall installation can cost more because the wall hardware is an additional purchase. Using the announced starting prices, the simplest listed display-and-mount combinations add up to $358.95 for USB-C Wall Connector, $378.95 for AC Wired, or $429.95 for PoE Wired when that option becomes available. These are arithmetic totals, not quoted installed prices.

Budgeting should therefore begin with the setup you actually intend to use, not just the screen. Confirm whether the selected mount is available when and where you plan to buy, what parts are included, whether the option is compatible with your specific HomeView model, and whether installation adds costs. Apple’s announcement does not say that mounting hardware comes in the wall display’s box, so do not treat the listed $299 as the total price of a mounted setup.
Which model fits your room and habits?
Choose tabletop if you want a movable surface display
- Your intended spot is a counter, bedside table, or side table.
- You want the tabletop design’s tilting hinge and speaker base.
- You may want to reposition the display rather than commit it to a wall location.
- You prefer not to plan a separate wall mount and its power method.
The tabletop model is the straightforward choice when the place you want to use HomeView already has a suitable surface. Apple lists a matching USB-C cable with this version, so there is no separate Schneider Home wall-mount purchase in the tabletop price comparison. The device’s domed base and tilting hinge are part of the tabletop design; choose this version if those physical traits suit the spot where you expect to use the screen.
Movable does not necessarily mean you will want to move it often. The useful question is whether your household benefits from being able to place the display on a counter or table without installing a wall mount. If you are still deciding between rooms, that flexibility can make tabletop placement more adaptable than choosing a fixed wall location in advance.
Choose wall-mounted if the location matters more than portability
- You want the screen at a fixed wall location such as an entryway or hallway.
- A wall installation suits how people in your home will check camera feeds or control lights, thermostats, locks, and blinds.
- You are willing to choose and budget for a compatible mount and power approach.
A wall-mounted display is a better match if your intended use depends on having HomeView in one set place, rather than taking it from a table to another surface. Before ordering, settle on the wall location and then work through the separate mount and power choice. Apple’s options have different announced starting prices and availability timing, so the cheapest listed starting price may not be the complete answer for your installation.
Neither placement is automatically better for a shared home. The right location depends on where people expect to use the screen for the listed activities: checking a camera view, looking at a calendar, using FaceTime, or controlling compatible lights and other accessories. Pick a form around the actual routine and location, not the assumption that a wall-mounted screen has a different feature set.
Color can be a tie-breaker after placement: Apple announced four finishes for tabletop and two for wall-mounted. Check the color and model offered in your market before ordering; an announced color range is not a guarantee that every finish will be available everywhere.
What both HomeView models are designed to do
Apple positions HomeView as a shared household screen for entertainment, communication, and smart-home management. Its announcement lists music, FaceTime, Messages, Calendar, Reminders, Find My, recipes, timers, camera feeds, and controls for thermostats, lighting, locks, and blinds, as well as voice automations. Apple says the display can recognize up to six household users and personalize the screen for each. The Home Camera face can show up to nine simultaneous camera feeds, according to Apple.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

That shared-use premise matters when choosing between the forms. If your main reason for buying HomeView is a household dashboard, Apple’s announcement describes the same listed smart-home purpose for both models. The decision is therefore less about giving up a named HomeView function and more about where the household can comfortably reach and view it. The announcement does not say one version recognizes more users or displays more camera feeds than the other.

Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Greg Joswiak, described the product as “designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user.” Apple connects that personal experience to face recognition and personalized screens, but those are Apple’s claims about the product rather than an independent assessment. The stated maximum is up to six recognized household users, so households should not assume support beyond that figure from the announcement.
For homes with several cameras, Apple’s announced maximum of up to nine simultaneous feeds on the Home Camera face is a useful specification to know. It does not establish how well a particular camera system performs or whether every camera works with HomeView. Apple says the display works with Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories, along with Apple Home Collection cameras, thermostats, and a lock developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. Check each accessory’s product-specific compatibility before treating it as part of your setup.
Apple said availability for Apple Home Collection would begin in December 2026, with select accessories starting in early 2027. Those dates mean the accessory ecosystem may not be fully available at HomeView’s announced November launch. If a particular camera, thermostat, or lock is central to your buying decision, verify its listing, compatible features, and availability in your market instead of relying on a general ecosystem description.
Check setup, feature, and regional requirements
Apple says setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software. The general compatibility statement is not a substitute for checking your specific devices and software before purchase. Apple also notes that some features vary by region or language and may require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device, a compatible accessory, Wi-Fi, an eligible iCloud+ plan, or a subscription.
Recommended Free Tools
Those dependencies can affect the value of either model, so separate must-have features from optional ones before choosing a form factor. If you mainly want to use the screen for Apple Home controls, verify that the accessories you own are supported. If you are buying for Siri AI, confirm language and regional availability. If a feature depends on an eligible iCloud+ plan, subscription, Wi-Fi connection, or paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device, include that requirement in your decision rather than assuming the $299 display price covers every service or accessory needed.
Apple’s compatibility wording covers Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories, but that is not a blanket guarantee that every Matter product supports every HomeView function. Check the exact accessory model and its stated support for Apple Home or Matter, then confirm that the feature you want—such as seeing a camera feed or controlling a lock—is included. This is particularly important if you plan to buy HomeView around devices from more than one manufacturer.

Availability is market-specific. In its October 13, 2026 announcement, Apple said preorders began that day in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK, and the U.S.; Singapore preorders were scheduled for October 15 at 9 a.m. SGT. Sales in South Africa were listed through Apple Authorized Resellers. Apple announced availability in those named countries from Friday, November 13, 2026, and said HomeView would not be available for sale in the European Union because Siri AI was then unavailable in iOS there. Check Apple’s current local listing for changes or market-specific details.
Apple listed Siri AI on HomeView in English in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK. Canadian French-language support was planned through a free software update. These language and market details matter if Siri AI is central to your choice; do not assume availability in other languages or regions from the hardware being sold there.
The listed dates and prices are Apple’s announced details, not guarantees that a retailer in every country will have every configuration on the same schedule. The announcement gives a U.S. display price and U.S. mount starting prices; readers elsewhere should check local pricing, taxes, availability, and the specific model or finish offered. For buyers in the European Union, Apple’s announcement said the product would not be available for sale there because Siri AI was unavailable in iOS at that time, so neither physical version is a workaround for that stated sales restriction.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to make the decision before ordering
- Pick the exact location. If it is a counter, nightstand, or side table, compare the tabletop model. If it is a wall, continue with the wall-mounted model and plan the mount.
- Price the installed setup. For a wall installation, add the selected mount’s announced starting price to the $299 U.S. display price, then verify actual availability, fit, and installation costs.
- Check the finish and local offer. Confirm that the model and color you want are offered in your country and that the announced sales date applies to your market.
- Verify your ecosystem needs. Check the exact camera, thermostat, lock, or other accessory for Apple Home or Matter compatibility, and check whether the features you expect have device, Wi-Fi, iCloud+, subscription, language, or regional requirements.
- Choose based on installation, not presumed sound quality. Apple describes different audio hardware and tuning for the two designs, but its announcement does not provide independent comparative listening results.
One final check is to make sure you are comparing the right versions. Apple announced four tabletop colors—silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray—and two wall-mounted colors—space gray and silver. Do not assume a color shown in an announcement is in stock locally or offered with both forms. Likewise, make sure a mount listing names the wall-mounted HomeView and the power approach you intend to use.
If you have not settled on the room, write down the two or three activities that matter most: perhaps seeing camera feeds, checking a calendar, controlling lights, or making a FaceTime call. Then ask where people will naturally do those things. A surface near the activity points toward tabletop; a fixed passageway or wall location points toward wall-mounted. This is a practical way to choose between the forms without assuming the hardware has unannounced feature differences.

Do the two HomeView models have the same display and smart-home features?
Apple says the wall-mounted model has the same 7-inch Liquid Retina display and features as the tabletop version. Both are positioned for smart-home controls and the other uses Apple lists. Check individual accessory compatibility and feature requirements; a general Works with Apple Home or Matter statement does not establish that every accessory supports every function.
Which Apple HomeView sounds better?
Apple describes different configurations: the tabletop model has a down-firing woofer, two force-cancelling passive radiators in its base, and two full-range drivers in the display; the wall model has two custom drivers and computational audio tuned for on-wall placement. Apple has not provided an independent comparative listening test establishing a winner.
What colors are available for each model?
Apple announced silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray for tabletop, and space gray and silver for wall-mounted. Check local availability before ordering, because the announced color range does not guarantee that every finish will be sold in every market.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

What do I need to set up HomeView and use Siri AI?
Apple says setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software. Some features may also require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device, a compatible accessory, Wi-Fi, an eligible iCloud+ plan, or a subscription. Apple listed Siri AI on HomeView in English in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK; Canadian French-language support was planned as a free software update.
When does Apple HomeView go on sale, and is it available in the EU?
Apple’s October 13, 2026 announcement said availability in named launch countries would begin Friday, November 13, 2026. It said preorders began October 13 in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK, and the U.S.; Singapore preorders were scheduled for October 15 at 9 a.m. SGT, while South African sales were through Apple Authorized Resellers. Apple said HomeView would not be available for sale in the European Union because Siri AI was then unavailable in iOS there. Check Apple’s local listing for current details.
The Bottom Line
Choose tabletop Apple HomeView for a counter, nightstand, or side table and its tilting-hinge design. Choose wall-mounted for a fixed entryway or hallway screen, but budget separately for a Schneider Home mount and confirm its availability and installation requirements. Both displays were announced at $299 U.S. with the same 7-inch display and listed feature set; Apple’s October 13, 2026 announcement does not establish a real-world sound-quality winner.
