Start with how you will carry it
Decide whether the reader needs to travel in a clothing pocket, jacket pocket, small bag, or backpack. Screen diagonal is only one measurement: check the device’s full height, width, thickness, and weight against the space you actually plan to use. The Kobo Clara BW product listing identifies a 6-inch display, but that figure alone cannot establish pocket fit.

Match storage to your on-device library
Think about whether you will store mostly eBooks, audiobooks, PDFs, or a mix. Kobo lists the Clara BW with 16 GB of storage and estimates that it can hold up to 12,000 eBooks or 75 Kobo audiobooks. These are Kobo’s estimates for that model, not guaranteed counts: file sizes and usable capacity vary.

Use those figures as a scale reference rather than a promise about your personal library. If you keep many large documents or audio files locally, prioritize storage accordingly; if you mainly read a smaller collection of eBooks, maximum capacity may matter less than fit and format compatibility.
Check formats, DRM, and transfer workflow
Before choosing a device, identify the file types you already own and where they come from. A format appearing on a support list does not by itself confirm that a particular protected book will open or explain how to transfer it.

Kobo eReaders
Kobo’s format support information lists EPUB, EPUB2, EPUB3, PDF, FlePub, and MOBI for Kobo eReaders. Kobo notes model exceptions for EPUB3. Books protected with Adobe DRM may require Adobe Digital Editions, so check both the device model and the book’s DRM before relying on a file.
Kindle personal documents
Amazon’s UK personal-document help page includes EPUB and PDF among supported file types. This describes a document-delivery support path; it is not a blanket guarantee that every Kindle opens every EPUB natively or that DRM-protected files will work. Confirm the transfer process for your Kindle model and the source of your files.

Compare models on the points that affect your use
For any two devices you are considering, compare the same practical details rather than relying on a screen-size label or a general claim of format support.
- Carrying fit: Compare full device dimensions and weight with your intended pocket or bag.
- Display: Consider screen size alongside your preferred text layout and whether you read documents.
- Storage: Match capacity to your collection, especially if you keep audiobooks or larger files on the reader. Treat manufacturer capacity counts as estimates.
- Files and DRM: Verify exact formats, protection requirements, and transfer workflow for your model and content source.
- Ecosystem: Check bookstore or library access for the specific model and your country. Kobo describes store access and broad format support, but those facts alone do not establish every market’s library options.
If PDFs are central to your reading, examine the device’s document workflow and whether its display suits the way you need to view those files. The available specifications do not establish comparative PDF comfort across screen sizes.
