Choose by indication, age, intended outcome, evidence, safety and fit with the child’s care—not by the app’s game-like design or a broad promise to “treat ADHD.” FDA-authorized EndeavorRx is a prescription digital therapeutic for a defined group of children; its labeled outcome is improved attention function, not relief of every ADHD symptom.
Start with the child’s age, diagnosis and ADHD presentation
Check whether the product is intended for the child’s age and specific diagnosis before comparing features. FDA records indicate that EndeavorRx is for children ages 8–17 with primarily inattentive or combined-type ADHD and a demonstrated attention issue. The original De Novo authorization, dated June 15, 2020, covered ages 8–12; a 510(k) decision dated December 13, 2023 expanded the labeled range to ages 8–17. Those boundaries matter: an app’s availability in an app store does not establish that it is authorized for a child’s age or clinical situation. For any product, look for its exact intended population and ask the child’s clinician whether that matches the child.

“ADHD treatment” can imply more than a product has been shown or labeled to do. EndeavorRx’s FDA labeling describes improvement in attention function, assessed with computer-based testing that includes sustained and selective attention. It also cautions that typical behavioral symptoms, such as hyperactivity, may not improve. FDA 510(k) decision.

Before choosing a product, name the goal in practical terms: for example, a specific attention-related difficulty, rather than “fix ADHD.” Then check whether the product’s stated outcome and measurement match that goal. An improvement on a computer-based attention measure is not a promise of improvement across every symptom or setting.
Understand the evidence—and its limits
The FDA’s 2020 De Novo review described five clinical studies involving more than 600 children. In those studies, 34.5% of treated participants moved into the normative range on at least one objective attention measure. The same review reported treatment-related adverse events in 50 of 538 participants (9.3%), with no serious adverse events in the studies it described. FDA De Novo review.
For the expanded age range, later FDA 510(k) materials report treatment-related adverse events in 16 of 342 participants (9.88%) across two supporting trials; no serious adverse events were reported in those trials, and reported events resolved by the end of treatment. FDA 510(k) decision. These are different evidence subsets, so the figures should not be combined as if they came from one trial.

Discuss safety and suitability with the child’s clinician
FDA materials note that EndeavorRx may not be suitable for some children with photosensitive epilepsy, color blindness, or physical limitations that restrict mobile-device use. Check the current product labeling and discuss relevant medical or accessibility concerns with the child’s clinician. FDA 510(k) decision.
Trial safety findings describe groups, not an individual child’s experience. Ask what adverse effects to watch for, what to do if they occur, and how the family and clinician will decide whether to continue.

Fit the product into the child’s broader care
FDA labeling says EndeavorRx should be considered as part of a program that may include clinician-directed therapy, medication and/or education. Check device compatibility and everyday usability
FDA records describe EndeavorRx as an application used on a mobile-device platform and require labeling to specify minimum operating-system requirements. They do not endorse a particular tablet model. Check the product’s current compatibility information before buying or setting up hardware; do not assume a device will work because it is a tablet. Also consider whether the child can comfortably use the device and whether the family can fit the product into daily routines. FDA records reviewed do not provide head-to-head comparisons of consumer ADHD apps or independent privacy rankings. For a consumer app, check its privacy policy and permissions directly rather than inferring privacy or effectiveness from its presence in an app store.
