There is no single best aim or controller setup for every PS5 shooter. Start with the game’s default settings, then change one control at a time and keep adjustments that make both fine aiming and larger turns feel manageable. Use the game’s practice range or another repeatable, low-pressure situation to compare changes.
What each aim setting changes
Sensitivity
Sensitivity controls how quickly your view moves in response to stick movement. If turning feels too slow, raise it in small increments. If small corrections repeatedly overshoot, lower it. These are practical starting heuristics, not a tested preset; games use different scales and implementations.

Response curve
A response curve determines how stick tilt translates into in-game input across the stick’s travel. PlayStation describes a gradual curve as requiring more tilt for smooth movement, while a steep curve responds faster to small tilts. Neither is universally better: consider whether you prefer fine control around the center or a quicker initial response.

Deadzone
A deadzone is the amount of stick movement ignored before the game registers input. Sony’s example explains that with a 10% deadzone, the stick must move beyond 10% tilt before input registers. Lower values can feel more immediate, but reduce them cautiously: an unstable stick may produce unintended movement or camera drift.

Aim assist
Aim-assist options and terminology vary by game. There is no supported universal value to use across PS5 shooters, so treat the game’s own descriptions and options as the relevant guide rather than copying a number from another title.
A repeatable way to tune your settings
- Begin with the game’s defaults. Play a short practice session before changing anything so you have a baseline to compare against.
- Pick a consistent task. Use the same game mode, weapon or sight, target distance, and practice activity when possible.
- Change one setting only. Adjust sensitivity, response curve, or deadzone separately; otherwise it is difficult to tell which change affected control.
- Test both small and large movements. Check whether you can make fine corrections on a target and turn comfortably to a larger target. A setting that helps one but makes the other unreliable may not suit your play.
- Keep or revert the change. Compare with your baseline in the same situation. Keep an adjustment only if it feels more controllable, and repeat later if you are unsure.
This method helps you make a personal comparison; it does not establish a laboratory-tested or objectively optimal setting.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Choose a button layout that fits your priorities
Button placement matters when an important action is awkward to reach or interrupts how you hold the controller. On a standard DualSense, PS5 supports button reassignment at Settings > Accessibility > Controllers > Custom Button Assignments for DualSense Wireless Controller. Choose a layout that makes your priority actions comfortable and easy to reach.
Where to adjust controller settings on PS5
Standard DualSense
For button reassignment, open Settings > Accessibility > Controllers > Custom Button Assignments for DualSense Wireless Controller. PS5 also provides general vibration and trigger-effect intensity settings. These can change comfort and feedback, but the available guidance does not establish that changing them improves aim.

DualSense Edge
With a DualSense Edge, open Settings > Accessories > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller > Custom Profiles. A profile can include button assignments, stick sensitivity and deadzone, trigger deadzone, vibration intensity, and trigger-effect intensity. In the stick settings, you can choose and test a stick, select and adjust a curve, and set its deadzone. Saved profiles make it easier to reuse different controller-level adjustments; the Edge is optional, not a requirement for tuning in-game controls.

In an official PlayStation Blog post published April 28, 2026, Bungie recommends that most Marathon players begin with defaults and make small changes to suit their preferences. The post says Marathon has its own aim curves and sensitivity choices, and describes Classic as the standard curve used in Bungie action games.

Bungie’s game-specific DualSense Edge example pairs Precise on the right stick for controlled fine aim with Quick on the left for responsive movement. It also advises lowering deadzones carefully when the controller is stable. These recommendations are for Marathon, not a tested setup for other shooters. The post’s broader point is: “There is no single perfect sensitivity setting for everyone.” Read Bungie’s Marathon controller recommendations.
