Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChoose a website builder by identifying the job your site must do, then compare the full cost and day-to-day work of the platforms that can do it. A local service business that needs a few pages and a lead form has different requirements from a company managing a product catalog, shipping and in-person sales. There is no universal best builder; the right choice is the one that supports your actual workflow at a sustainable cost.
Start with what the website needs to do
Write down the actions visitors should be able to take and the tasks your staff will perform. That gives you a useful shortlist before you compare brands. The University of California Sea Grant Extension’s selection guidance identifies considerations including cost, templates, a custom domain, ease of use, newsletter and social integrations, and ecommerce (UC Sea Grant Extension).

- Explain a local service and generate leads: prioritize clear service pages, contact forms, location and hours updates, and a comfortable editing experience.
- Publish regularly: look closely at the editor and publishing workflow, along with the integrations your content operation needs.
- Take appointments: confirm that booking tools support your scheduling process and are included in the plan you would buy, rather than assuming they are part of every tier.
- Sell products: evaluate the complete selling workflow: catalog, payments, inventory, shipping, in-person point of sale, and sales channels.
Compare only features that support one of these real business needs. A long feature list is not useful if it does not help you serve customers or run the site.
Compare the full cost, not just the advertised starting price
Work out what the version of the site you actually need will cost. The entry-level plan may not include ecommerce, booking, plugins, or integrations; some capabilities may require a higher tier or a paid add-on.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Price for the required plan, billing interval, and renewal—not just a promotional or entry price.
- Domain costs and any separate hosting charges.
- Paid extensions, apps, booking tools, or other integrations you need.
- Payment-processing charges and any transaction fees relevant to your sales workflow.
- Time and technical help needed to maintain the site.
Prices and entitlements vary by market and can change. Before committing, check the platform’s current official pricing and plan details for your country and billing cycle. Confirm renewal costs, what is included versus an add-on, and applicable payment or transaction fees. For a store, these costs can matter as much as the monthly subscription.
Check who handles hosting and maintenance
Builders differ in how much technical responsibility stays with the business owner. With self-hosted WordPress.org, you choose a hosting provider and are responsible for managing security. WordPress.com is a hosted option where security and updates are handled for the customer, according to Shopify’s comparison of website builders (Shopify’s comparison). Squarespace describes hosting and security as part of its subscription (Squarespace’s comparison).

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
These are different operating models, not simply different editors. If you choose a self-hosted setup, account for hosting and the work of keeping the site secure and maintained. With a hosted service, check what the subscription covers and what remains your responsibility. In either case, consider how you will handle backups, technical troubleshooting, updates, and moving your content if you later change platforms; the cited comparisons do not establish that portability is equally straightforward across providers.

| Builder | Consider it when | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify | Product sales are central and you need store operations such as inventory, shipping, point of sale, or multichannel selling. Shopify’s comparison describes these capabilities and app integrations. | Current plan entitlements, app costs, payment and transaction fees, and whether its selling workflow suits your business. |
| WordPress | You want to distinguish between a hosted service and a self-hosted setup with separately chosen hosting and owner-managed security. | For WordPress.org, hosting and maintenance costs; for WordPress.com, current plan limits and which features or plugins require a different plan or add-on. |
| Squarespace | You prefer a hosted builder and CMS. Squarespace’s comparison promotes features for ecommerce, services, marketing, and invoicing. | Which advertised features are available on the plan and in the location you need, plus any paid additions. |
| Wix | You want to evaluate a builder that Shopify’s August 28, 2026 comparison includes for small businesses. | Current terms, whether the free-plan description still applies, and which tier is required for your ecommerce needs. |
Shopify’s comparison also discusses Webflow and Big Cartel. Consider another builder only when its particular strengths match your requirements—for example, a need for design control or a small artist catalog—rather than expanding the shortlist without a business reason. Shopify’s descriptions of its own commerce features and Squarespace’s descriptions of its hosted bundle should be read as vendor claims, not neutral rankings.
Test the everyday editing and support experience
The person who owns the site may not be the person who built it. Before choosing, assess whether the owner or staff can comfortably update hours, services, products, and pages. Check that the templates fit your brand and that the editor allows the changes you expect to make; a polished template is less useful if routine edits require outside help.

- Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router - Up to 5400 Mbps WiFi for faster browsing, streaming, gaming and downloading, all at the same time(6 GHz: 2402 Mbps;5 GHz: 2402 Mbps;2.4 GHz: 574 Mbps)
- WiFi 6E Unleashed – The 6 GHz band brings more bandwidth, faster speeds, and near-zero latency; Enables more responsive gaming and video chatting
- Connect More Devices—True Tri-Band and OFDMA technology increase capacity by 4 times to enable simultaneous transmission to more devices
- Unique Design, More RAM, Better Processing - A unique housing design provides optimal heat dissipation, combined with a 1.0 GHz dual-core CPU and 512 MB High-Speed Memory, the AXE75 is designed for long-term reliability and performance.
- EasyMesh-compatible - Extend network range even more by adding EasyMesh-compatible routers, extenders, or wireless powerline adapters for a seamless, whole-home connection. Eliminate dead zones, drops, and lag as you move across your home.
Make a short list of the systems your business already uses, such as newsletters, social channels, booking, accounting, or analytics, and confirm the integrations you need are available on the intended plan. Also check current support channels and availability for that exact plan and your location. The cited comparison material does not establish which platform provides the best support, accessibility conformance, SEO performance, or data portability, so do not treat those as objectively ranked here.

Make a decision before you sign up
- Define the site’s primary job. Choose the main workflow—lead generation, publishing, appointments, or product sales—and note any secondary requirements.
- List must-haves. Include editing tasks, integrations, selling features, and the maintenance work you are willing to own.
- Shortlist platforms that support those needs. Compare hosted and self-hosted options according to how much control and upkeep you want.
- Price the real setup. Check the current country-specific plan, billing interval, renewal, required add-ons, hosting or domain costs where applicable, and sales fees.
- Confirm the workflow and support. Verify plan-level features and support availability directly with the provider before paying.
If two options both meet your requirements, favor the one your team can operate comfortably and whose full recurring costs are clear. A store with complex selling needs may warrant a commerce-focused platform; a service site that mainly needs pages and leads may not need store operations at all.
