“100mm system” identifies a family of equipment, not one filter size. Filters for a 100mm holder may measure 100×100mm or 100×150mm, and a case for those filters may not fit 150mm or 180mm systems. Check the dimensions of your largest filter and the case’s stated compatibility before comparing capacity. NiSi’s case listings distinguish 100mm cases from a six-filter case for 150mm and 180mm systems; Marumi’s M100 pouch specifies both 100×100mm and 100×150mm filters.

Square filters can be used with a holder rather than being limited to round screw-in filters. Marumi’s product page poses the question, “What do we use a square filter instead of a round screw-in filter for?” The storage implication is practical: if you carry a holder and rings with your filters, confirm that they have their own space rather than assuming they fit alongside the filter stack.
Compare published capacities and carry arrangements
The figures below are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent capacity or protection tests. They are stated on product pages with no publication year specified; check the linked page for current product details and availability.

Choose a case around how you carry your kit
For filters and holder in one case
Look for capacity that explicitly includes the holder. NiSi lists its 100mm System All in One Case for a holder plus eight filters, with belt mounting and a shoulder strap. Marumi’s M100 pouch instead describes separate space for the holder and rings, while stating filter capacity per pocket. Confirm that the layout suits your particular holder and accessories.
For a filter-only kit
A dedicated filter case may make sense if your holder travels elsewhere. NiSi lists a 100mm hard case for up to eight filters and a larger-format case for six filters. The Caddy listing describes a soft-pouch arrangement with a tripod mount and a higher filter count when the holder is carried separately. Capacity alone does not tell you how easily you can reach a particular filter or whether your full kit fits.

For shoulder, belt or tripod carry
Match the attachment to the way you work: NiSi’s all-in-one listing includes belt mounting and a shoulder strap; its hard case lists a tripod strap; and the Australian Caddy listing specifies a cross-body sling strap and tripod mount. These are distinct arrangements, so confirm the attachment described on the exact regional product page rather than assuming every version has the same features.
What protection claims do—and do not—tell you
A hard cover, separators or a padded-looking pouch description can help you understand construction and organization, but they are not interchangeable with verified impact, weatherproofing or scratch-resistance results. The manufacturer pages compared here do not provide comparable independent tests for those outcomes. Do not infer that a case is waterproof or that it will prevent damage from a drop unless the maker explicitly states the relevant protection and conditions.

If scratch prevention matters, check how filters are separated and whether the case’s pockets or dividers suit your glass and handling habits. Keep filters in their intended sleeves or compartments when the case design calls for them; do not assume that a listed filter count means every filter has an individual protective sleeve.

A quick fit check before buying
- Measure the largest filter. Confirm whether it is 100×100mm, 100×150mm, or a larger format, and match that measurement to the case listing.
- Identify the system. Check whether your kit is 100mm, 150mm or 180mm; do not rely on a broad “square filter” label.
- Count the complete load. Add filters, holder, adapter rings and any accessories you expect the case to carry. Read whether the capacity includes the holder or describes filters alone.
- Choose the carry method. Decide whether you need a soft pouch, hard cover, belt attachment, shoulder or sling strap, or tripod mount, and verify the exact listing includes it.
- Check the specific product page. Availability and regional configurations can change. Confirm the current listing and do not treat a manufacturer specification as an independent protection test.
