Choose a ServerPilot alternative by matching it to your server’s operating system, web stack, resource limits, and required services—not by looking for a universal winner. CyberPanel’s standard setup uses OpenLiteSpeed, aaPanel offers a free core and paid Pro tier, and CloudPanel publishes specific OS and hardware requirements and describes its panel as free. All three require you to verify compatibility and plan the move before production use.
What changes when you replace ServerPilot?
These products manage server-hosted websites; they are not a substitute for a compatible server. ServerPilot documents a stack with Nginx handling public traffic in front of Apache, along with multiple PHP versions, PHP-FPM, MySQL, AutoSSL, updates, firewalling, app isolation, migration tools, root access, and an API. See ServerPilot’s product documentation for the documented feature set. It does not establish current pricing, so check the live price before comparing total costs.

CyberPanel and CloudPanel have different documented approaches, while aaPanel’s feature and compatibility details need checking against the specific deployment you plan to run. A control-panel change can affect web-server directives, PHP behavior, and other services. Treat migration as a compatibility exercise, not an automatic transfer.

CyberPanel’s listed operating-system set includes Ubuntu 18.04, 20.04, and 22.04; AlmaLinux 8 and 9; and CloudLinux 8. Its installation knowledge-base page was updated June 5, 2024, so confirm the live installation guide for current support before installing. Requirements and compatibility can change.

Match the panel to the web stack and services you need
If your sites depend on Apache behavior
ServerPilot documents Apache behind Nginx. CyberPanel’s ordinary route uses OpenLiteSpeed instead, so do not assume Apache-specific directives or rewrite rules will behave identically. Inventory your directives and test them on a staging copy. For aaPanel and CloudPanel, confirm the current supported web-server configuration and how it handles your site’s rules before choosing.
Rank #2
If you want OpenLiteSpeed
CyberPanel is the alternative in this comparison whose standard route is explicitly based on OpenLiteSpeed. Its guide distinguishes that from LiteSpeed Enterprise, which is free for one domain and requires a license for additional domains. OpenLiteSpeed is described by CyberPanel as free and open source; the server itself still has hosting costs.
If operating-system compatibility is decisive
CloudPanel provides the clearest published current matrix in the material available here: Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04, and 26.04 or Debian 12 and 13, on x86 or ARM64. Its minimum listed resources are one core, 2 GB RAM, and 10 GB disk. CyberPanel’s published list is older, and aaPanel’s complete current compatibility matrix is not established here. Verify both against their live documentation for your exact server image and architecture.
If you need email, DNS, backups, or multiple customer accounts
Do not infer these functions from a panel’s name or headline features. Confirm whether each panel currently provides the exact mail, DNS, file-management, backup, monitoring, and multi-user or client-account functions you need, or whether you must supply and administer them separately.
Compare panel licensing separately from server cost
- CyberPanel: CyberPanel describes OpenLiteSpeed as free and open source. LiteSpeed Enterprise has distinct terms: free for one domain, with a license required for additional domains. Budget server hosting separately.
- aaPanel: The pricing page advertises a forever-free edition and Pro from $198/year, with one license associated with one server and a single IP. Confirm the current price and feature split before purchase.
- CloudPanel: Product material describes the panel as free. That does not make the server infrastructure free.
- ServerPilot: Its feature documentation does not establish current pricing, so use its live pricing information for a like-for-like bill comparison.
Use a staging migration checklist before changing DNS
There is no universal drop-in migration guarantee across these different stacks. Make an inventory for every site, compare it with the destination panel’s current documentation, and test the move on a staging server before directing production traffic to it.
Rank #4
- Record the site runtime: list each site’s PHP version, required extensions, and database version.
- Capture web-server behavior: save rewrite rules, Apache directives, and any custom configuration, then test how the destination stack handles them.
- Check certificates and renewal: record how SSL certificates are issued and renewed, and verify the destination process.
- List scheduled and custom work: document cron tasks, filesystem ownership, and any services beyond the web application.
- Plan data protection: identify the current backup method and confirm how you will restore the database and files if the test fails.
- Validate supporting services: determine whether mail and DNS must move, remain elsewhere, or be configured separately; test each required function.
- Test before cutover: migrate a staging copy, check application behavior and logs, and only switch DNS after the required functions work.
A practical decision rule
- Start with CloudPanel if its published OS, architecture, and resource requirements match your server and its documented application workflow meets your needs.
- Consider CyberPanel if OpenLiteSpeed is a deliberate fit and you have checked current OS support, service requirements, and any LiteSpeed Enterprise licensing needs.
- Evaluate aaPanel if its free or Pro offering may fit, but confirm the live compatibility and feature details for your OS and required services before installing.
These are screening rules, not a ranking. The right replacement is the one whose current requirements and service coverage match your server and whose stack passes a staging migration.
