Choose a screenshot API by starting with the countries and websites your workflow actually needs, then verify the provider’s country-specific IP routing, proxy options, browser locale controls, rendering behavior, privacy terms, and total cost. “Global” is not a useful coverage promise on its own: test shortlisted services against the same pages and locations, because vendor feature lists do not establish comparative performance.
Turn “global” into a country-and-site checklist
Before comparing services, write down the countries that matter, how important each market is, and the pages you need to capture there. Include representative sites, not just a list of locations: a news page, localized storefront, or application dashboard may behave differently from a static test page.

For each country, check whether a provider offers country-specific IP routing directly, allows you to supply a proxy, or supports both. Ask about the proxy type and how to request locations that are not listed. Published coverage is a vendor claim that can change, not proof that every target site will show the desired regional content.

Separate IP country from browser locale
A request routed through an IP address in the right country does not necessarily reproduce every aspect of a local visitor. Sites may also use browser geolocation coordinates, the browser’s language, or its time zone to choose content. Decide which signals your target sites rely on, then set and test each relevant signal rather than assuming that proxy routing alone is enough.
- IP country: Relevant when a site localizes or gates access based on the visitor’s network location.
- Browser geolocation: Coordinates made available through the browser’s Geolocation API; this is separate from IP routing.
- Language and time zone: Browser settings that can affect language, dates, prices, and other localized content.
ScreenshotOne’s documentation distinguishes geolocation coordinates from IP country and recommends pairing country routing with language and time-zone preferences when relevant. Use that as a reminder to test the signals your own target pages use, not as proof that one setting is universally required.
Choose built-in country routing or a proxy you control
Built-in routing
Built-in country selection can reduce integration work if the provider offers the countries and proxy types your workflow needs. Confirm how locations are selected, what happens when a country is unavailable, and whether the API exposes the routed location in a way you can verify.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCustomer-supplied proxy
An external proxy can give you more choice over provider or proxy type, but adds another service dependency. Check the supported protocol, authentication method, regional availability, and which service is responsible when a capture fails. Also verify precedence: a custom proxy may override the screenshot API’s own country setting. ScreenshotOne documents HTTP proxy use and says its custom proxy overrides its built-in country code.

Proxy type and concurrency
Proxy type can change cost and operating behavior. ScreenshotOne recommends trying data-center proxies before residential or mobile proxies, choosing a specific location rather than a random pool, and avoiding excessive parallel traffic through a single proxy. Treat this as that provider’s operational guidance; test your own workload and confirm the proxy provider’s limits and terms.
ScreenshotOne’s documentation puts the location advice this way: “Use proxies located in the United States or your specific location, rather than random locations.”
Compare capture controls and failure handling
Regional routing is only useful if the resulting capture is complete and reproducible. Compare the controls the workflow actually needs, and distinguish a documented feature from demonstrated output quality.
- Output: Required image formats or PDF, and whether the API returns the result directly or provides a URL.
- Capture scope: Viewport screenshots, full-page captures, and any element-level capture your workflow needs.
- Loading behavior: Wait conditions for page load, network activity, selectors, or a fixed delay; consider how these behave on dynamic pages.
- Automation: Support for scripts, selectors, batches, and repeatable settings across requests.
- Failure signals: Whether the API distinguishes timeouts, blocked pages, incomplete loads, and other errors from successful captures.
Cloudflare’s documentation describes screenshots from URLs or HTML and controls such as viewport, full-page capture, and page-loading waits. Screenshot API’s documentation describes PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF output, advanced options, and batch capture. These examples can help shape a checklist; they do not establish equal fidelity, reliability, or suitability for your workload.

Run a repeatable evaluation on real target pages
- Choose representative pages. Include the target sites and page types that matter, including pages with dynamic content if your workflow depends on it.
- Fix the test conditions. Use the same country, viewport, locale settings, capture timing, and equivalent proxy setup for every shortlisted API.
- Record correctness, not just whether an image was returned. Note whether the page shows the expected regional content, whether dynamic elements loaded, and whether the capture is complete.
- Record operations. Track completion, elapsed time, and the reported failure reason for each request. Repeat across representative sites and time periods if reliability matters.
- Keep vendor claims separate from your results. Feature documentation confirms that an option exists; only your workload test can show whether the output meets your requirements.
The official sources cited here do not provide an independent, controlled head-to-head performance comparison. Do not choose a provider because a vendor claim implies it is the fastest or most reliable; measure the pages, locations, and request patterns you expect to use.
Review retention, delivery, and total cost
Retention and storage
Determine whether captures are returned directly or stored, whether caching is enabled, how long artifacts remain available, and whether response mode or explicit storage settings change those defaults. ScreenshotOne says direct on-demand captures are not persistently stored by default when caching and storage are disabled, while noting temporary processing and an exception for JSON responses. Confirm the current documentation and contract terms for the configuration you intend to use, and assess them against your organization’s requirements.
Cost at expected volume
Model spending using your expected request volume, country mix, and realistic retries. Include plan or credit allowances, overages, proxy traffic or sessions, storage and delivery charges, and how failed requests are treated. Browshot’s documentation describes credits and separate instance choices; Urlbox’s pricing page distinguishes usage tiers and business offerings. These terms can change, and the cited material does not provide a normalized total-cost comparison, so check current provider terms before purchasing.

Operational limits and support
Before committing, check rate limits, concurrency guidance, support channels, and any SLA terms that matter to your workflow. Ask who handles problems at the boundary between screenshot rendering and proxy routing, and make sure the failure information available to your team is sufficient to diagnose them.
Use a requirements-led comparison table
Score each candidate against the same questions. A provider’s country list or feature page is a starting point for verification, not a substitute for a workload test.
| Comparison axis | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Geographic coverage | Required countries, country-specific IP availability, routing method, and how additional locations are requested. |
| Proxy control | Built-in versus external proxy, supported protocol, proxy type, precedence, concurrency guidance, and responsibility for failures. |
| Regional fidelity | IP country, browser geolocation, language, and time-zone controls, checked on representative target sites. |
| Rendering controls | Viewport, full-page mode, formats, wait conditions, selectors or scripts, and batch support. |
| Reliability evidence | Workload-specific correctness, success, latency, and failure observations, distinguished from vendor claims. |
| Privacy and retention | Direct-response behavior, caching defaults and duration, storage options, temporary processing, and terms. |
| Economics and operations | Included volume, credits, overages, proxy costs, storage, failed requests, rate limits, support, and SLA terms. |
Or skip the browser setup: use ScreenshotNeo
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its documented features include clean captures that accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. It says only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the result identified in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients.
The supplied ScreenshotNeo feature information does not establish country-specific IP routing or customer-supplied proxy support. If global proxy routing is a requirement, verify that capability directly before selecting it for that workflow. For clean captures where its documented features fit, a single GET request is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Equivalent examples:
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo offers 1,000 screenshots a month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free and try ScreenshotNeo.

Troubleshoot common selection and capture problems
The page shows the wrong country’s content
Check whether the site uses IP location, browser geolocation, language, or time zone, then configure and test the relevant signals independently. Confirm the actual proxy location rather than relying on a random pool or a country label alone.
A custom proxy setting does not appear to take effect
Check the provider’s supported proxy protocol and precedence rules. In ScreenshotOne’s documented behavior, a custom HTTP proxy overrides its built-in country selection, so configuring both does not mean both routing choices are applied.

Captures slow down or time out under concurrency
Check the proxy provider’s concurrency limits and the screenshot API’s own rate guidance. ScreenshotOne warns that many parallel requests through one proxy can cause slowdowns, timeouts, and errors; test lower concurrency or distribute requests across appropriate proxy capacity.
The screenshot is blank or missing dynamic content
Compare the configured wait condition with the page’s actual loading behavior. Test a selector or other supported wait method where appropriate, and record whether the API reports an incomplete load or timeout rather than treating every returned image as a successful capture.
The quoted cost does not match expected monthly spend
Recalculate with the actual country mix, retries, proxy traffic, storage, delivery, and failed-request treatment. Check current pricing and terms directly: allowances, credits, and plan structures are subject to change.
