Start by identifying your Nokia phone’s exact model—not just its brand name—then choose a battery or repair route that explicitly supports that model. If the packaging is gone, HMD says to check Settings > About phone. Match any replacement to the phone’s own guide or official repair listing, and use the code printed on the original battery as an additional check when available.
Identify your exact Nokia phone
Find the model name and, if available, its model identifier before looking for a battery. HMD’s support information says you can check the phone in Settings > About phone if you no longer have its packaging. Start with HMD’s Nokia and HMD phone support to locate device-specific information.

Do not assume that a battery fits because it carries the Nokia name, looks similar, or has a similar capacity. HMD’s repair guidance is specific to supported devices. For example, its product information sheet lists a 1450 mAh battery for the Nokia 230 (2024), model TA-1609; that figure applies to that model and is not a standard for Nokia phones generally. The sheet does not establish compatibility with other models.
Check compatibility before buying
- Open the phone’s own documentation. Find its user guide or repair listing through HMD Support and confirm whether the battery is removable or user-repairable, which part is specified, and whether the repair requires particular tools.
- Match the listing to the full model. Buy only when the seller or official repair listing explicitly names your exact phone model. If you can safely read the code printed on the original battery, compare that too; a matching code is a useful cross-check, not a substitute for model compatibility.
- Check the part’s source and terms. Prefer listings that clearly state compatibility, part condition, and return terms. A capacity claim by itself does not establish fit or quality; the official material cited here does not test or rank third-party marketplace sellers.
- Verify availability for your location. HMD names iFixit and GSMnet as official repair partners, but supported models and markets vary. Check the current HMD listing and partner page for your country and exact phone before ordering.
Choose a repair route suited to the model
Repairability varies across the Nokia range. HMD identifies the Nokia G22 and Nokia G42 5G as designed for home repair using official parts and guides. Its Nokia 230 (2024) product sheet separately says that the battery can be repaired by the end user with a basic tool. Those examples do not establish that other Nokia phones can be opened or repaired the same way.

If HMD lists your device for self-repair, follow that model’s guide and use the specified parts and tools. HMD’s current self-repair information names iFixit and GSMnet as official repair partners. It lists iFixit for Australia, Great Britain, the United States, and EU countries; its EU store also ships to Norway and Switzerland. HMD lists GSMnet in Europe, Great Britain, and Australia, with selected markets specified on its page. Availability can change, so confirm the current listing for your location.
HMD says repairs on the self-repairable Nokia or HMD smartphones covered by its guidance, when made with genuine parts, tools, and guides from those partners, are considered authorized repairs and do not affect the Manufacturer’s Limited Warranty. It cautions that non-official parts or tools may void warranty. This applies to the devices and warranty terms described by HMD, not automatically to every Nokia phone or country. Check your local terms before opening the device. HMD says warranty coverage can be checked through the My Device app or its IMEI warranty checker; its support page also provides care-center options.

Take battery safety seriously
Use the complete repair guide for your exact model, or have the work done by a repair professional. Do not treat instructions for one Nokia or HMD phone as universal. For example, HMD’s Fusion battery guide says to power down and unplug the Fusion, discharge its battery below 25% before that repair, and avoid bending, creasing, or puncturing it. It warns that a damaged lithium-ion battery can catch fire or leak dangerous chemicals. The below-25% instruction is specific to the Fusion guide; follow the instructions for your own model instead.

Dispose of the old battery properly
Do not put a used phone battery in ordinary household rubbish unless local rules explicitly allow it. HMD’s HMD Pulse and Pulse Pro dismantling manual says used products and batteries should go to dedicated collection points and identifies lithium-ion batteries as requiring special handling and recycling. Check your local waste authority’s guidance and the relevant take-back program in your country.
