More buttons do not automatically mean a better fit: a shooter, racing game, and fighting game can call for different controls.
Start with the controls you want to change
Before comparing specifications, identify the commands you reach for most and which face buttons you would rather not leave. A PS5 controller with back buttons can move those commands to controls operated by your middle or ring fingers, but count alone is not enough. Check where the buttons sit, whether you can remap them, and whether the controller saves more than one layout.

- Shooters: Rear controls may make it easier to keep your thumbs on the sticks while using frequently needed commands. Short trigger travel can suit discrete actions such as firing, if you do not need an analog pull.
- Racing games: Keep full analog trigger travel available when the game uses how far a trigger is pressed to vary acceleration or braking.
- Fighting games: A six-button face layout may be more useful than extra rear buttons. Check the D-pad and layout against the way you play.
- Mixed game libraries: Saved profiles can spare you from rebuilding a layout for each game, provided the controller supports the profile switching you want.
These are ways to match hardware features to play style, not evidence that a controller improves skill or delivers a measured competitive advantage.

Rear buttons, remapping, and profiles
Look beyond the number of extra controls. Confirm that the buttons can be assigned to the commands you need, are comfortable to reach, and can retain separate configurations. Sony documents remapping and saved profiles for the DualSense Edge; Razer lists six remappable buttons on the Wolverine V2 Pro; and Victrix documents four mappable rear buttons and up to three profiles for the Pro BFG.

Trigger travel and trigger effects
Trigger stops shorten the pull. That can be handy for quick, discrete inputs, but a shorter stroke cannot provide the same range of analog input as a full pull. Sony’s DualSense Edge support documentation describes long, medium, and short trigger strokes and warns: “If you set the stop sliders to medium or shallow strokes, the trigger effect function doesn’t work.” If adaptive trigger effects matter to you, account for that trade-off before changing the stops. Razer describes the Wolverine V2 Pro’s HyperTrigger switches as offering full-range or short, click-like operation; the Pro BFG guide lists five trigger-stop positions.
Stick layout, tuning, and replacement
Stick position is a preference, not a universal ranking. The Pro BFG guide describes a reversible left module that switches between standard and offset stick layouts. The DualSense Edge offers adjustable stick sensitivity and dead zones, interchangeable stick caps, and replaceable stick modules. Sony says, “You can also replace the stick module if it doesn’t work properly or stops working.” That is a documented service option for this model—not proof that drift is eliminated, that one controller drifts less than another, or that replacement parts will always be inexpensive or available.

Modularity and platform details
Interchangeable modules can be valuable if you want a different stick layout or a fightpad, but check what actually swaps and how setup works. The Pro BFG guide describes its reversible left module and a replaceable six-button fightpad module. It also covers PS5, PS4, and PC modes, with specific limitations: in PC XInput mode, headset-jack audio and PlayStation touchpad operation are unsupported. For wireless use, the guide calls for the included USB dongle and a PC-app Day 1 update; it recommends recalibration after changing the left-module layout or when stick or trigger problems occur.
How the documented options differ
| Controller | Documented controls and customization | Platform and setup details | Best fit by feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sony DualSense Edge | Remapping, saved profiles switchable in-game, adjustable stick sensitivity and dead zones, vibration tuning, two back-button types, swappable caps, replaceable stick modules, and long/medium/short trigger strokes. Trigger effects do not work at medium or short stroke settings, per Sony support. | Sony documents PS5-oriented controls and PC profile editing. | Players seeking customization within Sony’s PS5 controller ecosystem and a documented stick-module replacement path. |
| Victrix Pro BFG | Four mappable rear buttons, up to three profiles, five trigger-stop positions, reversible left module for standard or offset sticks, and a six-button fightpad module. | Guide covers PS5, PS4, and PC. Wireless setup requires the included USB dongle and PC-app Day 1 update. PC XInput mode does not support headset audio or PlayStation touchpad operation. | Players who value alternate stick layouts or a modular fightpad. |
| Razer Wolverine V2 Pro | Six remappable buttons, interchangeable thumbsticks, and HyperTrigger switches for full-range or short, click-like pulls. Razer’s 2023 announcement specifies 0.65 mm action-button actuation distance; that is a manufacturer specification, not an independent comparison. | Razer describes it as PlayStation licensed for PS5 and PC, with wireless 2.4 GHz connectivity. | Players prioritizing numerous remappable controls and a quick-trigger option. |
This comparison is limited to features documented by the manufacturers; it does not rank comfort, latency, battery life, durability, or value.

Which pro controller should you buy for PS5?
Choose DualSense Edge for Sony’s documented PS5 customization
Consider the Edge if saved profiles, adjustable stick response, PS5-oriented controls, and replaceable stick modules match your priorities. Keep in mind the trigger-effect limitation when medium or short stops are set.
Choose Victrix Pro BFG for modular layouts
Consider the Pro BFG if you want to switch between standard and offset left-stick positions or use a six-button fightpad module. Read its guide before buying if you plan to use PC mode or wireless setup, since the mode limitations and update steps affect how it works.

Choose Razer Wolverine V2 Pro for its listed remappable controls and trigger option
Consider the Wolverine V2 Pro if six remappable buttons, interchangeable thumbsticks, and the choice of full-range or click-like trigger pulls suit your games. Treat the 0.65 mm actuation distance as Razer’s specification rather than proof of faster performance than another controller.
Check before you buy
- Confirm the exact model and platform. Check current compatibility for your PS5, PC, or PS4 use, including whether features such as audio, touchpad, and wireless controls work in the mode you intend to use.
- Match controls to your games. Decide which actions belong on rear buttons, whether you need full analog trigger travel, and whether stick layout or a fightpad module matters.
- Verify setup requirements and included parts. Check firmware or app steps, whether wireless play requires a dongle, and whether any replacement module fits the exact controller.
- Check purchase terms and availability. Confirm current stock, return policy, and replacement-part availability before committing.
The cited product specifications do not establish current prices or stock, comparative battery runtime, latency, comfort, durability, drift rates, or long-term reliability. Those claims require dated evidence; comfort and performance comparisons in particular need transparent, independent testing.
