To choose a PC for more than 100 frames per second in Red Dead Redemption 2, start with your resolution and graphics settings, then compare graphics cards using benchmarks measured at those same conditions. Rockstar’s recommended PC specifications are a compatibility baseline—not a promise of 100 FPS. Available published tests are historical and do not establish a current 2026 GPU shortlist or guarantee that a particular PC will exceed 100 FPS.
Set the resolution and image-quality target first
A graphics card that exceeds 100 FPS at 1080p with tuned settings may not do so at 1440p or 4K, or with demanding options enabled. Decide which resolution you intend to play at and how much visual quality you are willing to trade for frame rate. When comparing PCs, use results from the same resolution and comparable settings; otherwise the FPS figures do not answer the same question.

- Resolution: Compare 1080p results with 1080p, 1440p with 1440p, and 4K with 4K.
- Graphics settings: Record the preset and any options changed. A preset alone may not fully describe the configuration.
- Frame-rate statistic: Check whether the result is an average, minimum, or peak, and whether it comes from the built-in benchmark or a gameplay scene.
- Rendering method: Note any upscaling and the graphics API. Label results using upscaling rather than treating them as native-resolution results.
These details matter because a single “100 FPS” claim, without its conditions, is not a reliable basis for choosing a PC.

| Tier | Processor | Memory | Graphics card | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-6300 | 8 GB | GeForce GTX 770 2 GB or Radeon R9 280 3 GB | 150 GB |
| Recommended | Intel Core i7-4770K or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X | 12 GB | GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB or Radeon RX 480 4 GB | 150 GB |
Those listed components help establish whether a system meets Rockstar’s stated baseline; they do not show that it will reach a high frame rate. For a 100+ FPS goal, look for a tested result for the exact graphics card in the PC, at your resolution and settings. Also record the processor and installed memory rather than assuming that meeting the game’s requirements establishes high-frame-rate suitability.
Read published GPU results in their historical context
The available GPU examples show how much resolution and settings affect performance, but they come from the game’s 2019 PC launch period. They are useful as illustrations of how to read benchmark claims, not as a 2026 shopping list or a basis for predicting a contemporary card’s performance.

| Source and test period | Graphics card | Reported result and conditions | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA, launch-era built-in-benchmark guidance (2019) | GeForce RTX 2060 | 60+ FPS at 1080p High | Historical vendor result; below the stated 100 FPS target. |
| NVIDIA, launch-era built-in-benchmark guidance (2019) | GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER | Over 60 FPS at 1440p High | Historical vendor result; not a 100 FPS claim. |
| NVIDIA, launch-era built-in-benchmark guidance (2019) | GeForce RTX 2080 Ti | 60 FPS at high-fidelity 4K | NVIDIA also described upscaling from lower render resolutions as an option for High settings; this is not a native-resolution 100 FPS result. |
| TechSpot, independent test (2019) | GeForce RTX 2080 Ti | Over 100 FPS in its 1080p High test, using DX12 and the in-game Colter scene | Specific to TechSpot’s test system: Core i9-9900K overclocked to 5 GHz and 16 GB DDR4-3400. |
| TechSpot, independent test (2019) | Vega 64, RTX 2060 Super, or RTX 2070 class | Near-60-FPS averages at 1440p, with manually configured quality below maximum | Averages from that test, not minimum or peak rates and not a current comparison. |
NVIDIA’s figures are vendor-published built-in-benchmark guidance, while TechSpot’s are independent results from a specified test setup. Differences in settings and methodology mean the figures should not be treated as directly interchangeable. Neither set establishes which current retail GPU will deliver more than 100 FPS.

Compare candidate PCs by the exact parts and test conditions
When two systems claim to run RDR2 above 100 FPS, compare the evidence rather than relying on the headline number. The graphics card is central to the comparison, but a useful listing or benchmark should identify the whole configuration and how the result was obtained.
- Graphics card and VRAM: Record the exact GPU model and graphics-memory capacity; do not rely on a vague “gaming graphics” label.
- Processor and installed memory: Capture the exact CPU and RAM configuration so the tested system can be compared with the PC you are considering.
- Resolution and settings: Check the resolution, preset, and material options changed. Results at different settings do not establish equivalent performance.
- Test scene and statistic: Look for the benchmark or repeatable gameplay scene and whether the published figure is an average, minimum, or peak.
- Upscaling and API: Identify whether upscaling is enabled and which graphics API is used. Keep those conditions visible when comparing results.
- Price and upgrade path: Compare current verified listings and the practical upgrade path for each system. Current PC prices and specific 2026 models are not established by the historical benchmarks above.
If a seller provides only an unqualified FPS figure, ask for the settings and test details or treat the claim as unverified. A result for a different PC with the same GPU can still differ because its settings and test setup may not match.

Verify performance with the game’s built-in benchmark
Once you have access to the PC, use Rockstar’s Graphics Benchmark to see how its actual configuration performs and to tune image quality. Rockstar gives this path: Settings > Graphics > Run Benchmark Test. It advises experimenting with advanced options and running the benchmark to confirm the balance of FPS and quality that suits you. - Open Settings > Graphics > Run Benchmark Test and run the test with the resolution and graphics configuration you intend to use.
- Note the result and the settings in effect. Keep the resolution, upscaling choice, and other conditions consistent when rerunning or comparing results.
- If performance is below your target, adjust demanding options and run the benchmark again. Rockstar identifies MSAA, reflections, water, and volumetrics among the settings to consider; their impact varies by system.
- Keep the configuration that meets your desired balance of image quality and frame rate, rather than assuming that a preset or a single option has the same cost on every PC.
PC Gamer’s historical settings analysis likewise identifies reflections and volumetrics as substantial performance levers in its tests and reports that 4x MSAA reduced performance by more than 25% in its tested setup. That figure is specific to PC Gamer’s configuration, not a universal penalty. Its guide also notes that presets can configure options differently depending on the GPU, which is another reason to record exact settings. PC Gamer’s RDR2 settings and benchmark guide

Choose a high-refresh-rate monitor to match the PC
A monitor’s resolution should match the resolution at which you expect the PC to achieve your target. A display capable of a high refresh rate does not make the game render more frames; it can only show frames the PC produces. Treat the monitor as a companion to the GPU choice, not evidence that a PC can reach 100+ FPS.
