Compare the cover display’s shape and comfort, inner-screen usefulness, construction and water-and-dust rating, camera lenses and optical zoom, and model-specific software support. No single spec—including megapixels or an IP rating—tells you how good the phone will be or how long it will last.
Start with how you will use it folded and unfolded
The inner display is the headline feature, but the cover display is often the screen you use for quick replies, calls, navigation and everyday apps. Try to assess both modes rather than choosing from the unfolded diagonal alone.

- If you mostly use your phone closed: prioritize a cover screen whose width, shape and keyboard feel comfortable. A screen that feels cramped for typing may make the larger inner display less relevant in daily use.
- If you read, edit or multitask on your phone: consider whether the unfolded display gives you useful room for documents, reading or multiple apps. A large screen is valuable only if it fits what you actually do.
- If you switch modes often: look for software that continues apps smoothly between displays and offers practical multitasking controls.
For scale, Google lists the Pixel 10 Pro Fold with a 6.4-inch cover display and an 8-inch inner display in its official specifications. Samsung lists an 8-inch main display for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra in its US comparison page. These figures describe screen diagonals, not the width, shape or typing comfort of either cover screen.

Assess durability beyond the IP rating
Foldables have exposed inner displays and moving hinges, so compare more than a dust-and-water label. Check the manufacturer’s information on the outer frame, cover glass and hinge construction, and consider the protection and repair terms offered for the exact model and market. Published specifications do not establish long-term failure rates.

The ratings on the cited models differ: Samsung lists IP48 for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, while Google lists IP68 for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. These ratings are not interchangeable measures of hinge endurance, screen toughness or resistance to every kind of damage. Neither should be treated as a guarantee against incidents outside the rating’s scope.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 specification sheet lists IP48 water resistance and is dated July 9, 2025; its details are available in the Samsung technical sheet. The rating is one part of the decision, not a prediction of how a particular phone will hold up over years of use.

Compare camera systems by lens and reach, not megapixels alone
Look at what each rear camera is for: a main wide camera for general shots, an ultrawide for broader scenes, and a telephoto lens for distant subjects. Optical zoom is a useful point of comparison, but sensor resolution and zoom figures alone cannot establish which phone takes better photos. Independent comparative photo testing is needed for that judgment.

Check multitasking features against your actual apps
Fold-specific software can make the inner screen more useful, but a feature list matters only if it supports your work and preferred apps. Samsung lists Flex mode, Multi window, Samsung DeX, App Continuity and Taskbar options for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Samsung’s comparison also says the Fold8 Ultra does not support the S Pen. Check the current model page and app compatibility if any one of these features is essential.

Update promises can affect how long a phone continues to receive operating-system changes and security fixes. Compare the stated commitment for the exact model—not just the brand or a predecessor—and confirm the terms for your country before buying.

Make the final comparison in your market
Once you have narrowed the choice by daily use, compare the exact regional models and their current prices and availability. The cited product pages provide useful specifications but do not establish local stock or pricing. Check dimensions and weight as well as screen size, especially if you carry the phone in a pocket or use it one-handed.
