Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For several people playing together on one Switch, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is the clearest fit: its main game supports one to four players on one system, while its companion adventure offers a different, more open style of play. If your child prefers exploring and collecting, consider Super Mario Odyssey; if adjustable challenge and a sample before buying matter most, look at Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The right choice still depends on your household’s content comfort, console setup and the role you want each player to have.
Start with your family’s content comfort
“Family-friendly” is a household judgment, not a guarantee that every child will enjoy or feel comfortable with a game. Use the age rating and content descriptors for your region as a screening tool, then decide whether the themes and play fit your child. The official Nintendo pages cited here are US listings; ratings and storefront availability can differ elsewhere.

Decide how many people should play on one Switch
Local player count matters, but so does what a second player actually does. Nintendo’s listed counts are for play on one system; they do not by themselves establish that every mode or role is identical.
| Game | One-system player count | Local play and player roles |
|---|---|---|
| Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury | 1–4 players | The course-based game supports teaming up or competing locally. In Bowser’s Fury, a second player can help as Bowser Jr. Nintendo listing |
| Super Mario Odyssey | 1–2 players | Player one controls Mario; player two controls Cappy, so the second player has a supporting role. Nintendo listing |
| Kirby and the Forgotten Land | 1–2 players | Nintendo lists local co-op. The listing does not specify a second-player role in the facts cited here. Nintendo listing |
If several siblings want to control full characters together, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is the strongest documented match among these options: Nintendo lists up to four players on one system for the game and describes local cooperation or competition in its course-based mode. Nintendo’s product description says: “Pounce and climb through dozens of colorful courses! Multiply the fun by teaming up with or competing against friends locally* or online** to reach each stage’s goal.” The online option is separate from local play; the listing also notes online-feature requirements and the “Users Interact” descriptor. If your household does not want online access, focus on its local mode.
Match the play style to the child
Shorter courses and shared action: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
The package combines a course-based platform game with Bowser’s Fury, a separate free-roaming adventure. That gives families two different styles to consider: structured stages in the main game, then a more open environment in the companion adventure. Its local multiplayer support makes it the most straightforward of these three for multiple people playing at once.

- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
Exploration and collecting: Super Mario Odyssey
Nintendo describes Super Mario Odyssey as a sandbox-style adventure built around 3D exploration, capture-based moves and collectibles. It can suit a child who likes roaming and finding things, with a parent or sibling able to assist by controlling Cappy. That second-player role is more limited than choosing between multiple full characters.
Adjustable challenge: Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Kirby and the Forgotten Land offers Wild and Spring-Breeze difficulty modes. Nintendo says Spring-Breeze gives Kirby more health and makes enemies easier, while Wild makes enemies tougher and offers more rewards. The listing also describes a free demo with three stages, which lets a family sample some of the game before deciding whether it suits them. A demo is a useful preview, not a full measure of every later stage.

Nintendo Switch parental controls can restrict software by age rating and adjust communication and social-sharing settings on the console or through the smart-device app. The app also supports daily play-time limits and displays gameplay history. These are system-level tools; they do not mean every game has no online interaction.

- Whether you’re riding the wind solo or sharing the breeze with a friend, Windswept invites players to slow down, explore, and enjoy the journey as much as the destination. How far will you go? Where will your journey end? Let's get swept away - together!
- English, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (LATAM), Spanish (Spain), and Traditional Chinese in-game text.
Check the console model before buying or setting up local play. Nintendo’s pages for all three games caution that compatibility and experience may vary on Nintendo Switch Lite and that additional accessories may be required for some setups. Confirm the specific game mode, console and controller arrangement your family plans to use rather than assuming the standard Switch experience applies unchanged.

A quick decision path
- Check content first. Look up the game’s full age rating and descriptors for your region, then compare them with your household’s comfort level.
- Count the players. If more than two people need to play on one system, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is the option here with a listed one-to-four-player count. For two players, compare whether you want the Cappy support role in Odyssey or local co-op in Kirby.
- Choose the kind of play. Pick courses and group competition for 3D World, open exploration and collectibles for Odyssey, or a choice of difficulty and a three-stage demo for Kirby.
- Set household boundaries. Configure age restrictions, communication and sharing settings, and any play-time limits that suit your family.
- Verify the hardware setup. If you use a Switch Lite or a nonstandard controller arrangement, check the game’s compatibility notes and accessory needs before purchase.
Nintendo’s official game pages establish the listed mechanics, player counts, ratings and demo details; they do not establish which game a particular child will enjoy or how difficult it will feel to them. Choose based on your family’s priorities rather than treating the specifications as a universal verdict.
