Measure the completed model in the pose you plan to display, then compare its maximum width, depth and height with the case’s usable interior dimensions—not its outside measurements. Include the stand, accessories, figures and scenery that will go inside, and leave enough room to position the model without scraping the walls.
Start with the finished model, not the set box
A set’s packaging dimensions and piece count do not tell you whether the assembled model will fit. Put movable parts in the display position you want, then measure the model at its widest, deepest and tallest points. Include a stand or base, antennas, wings, sails, open doors, minifigures and any other items you plan to enclose.

If you might reposition adjustable parts later, consider whether the case will leave room to do so. A model that fits only in one tightly folded pose may not suit the display you have in mind. KGBOX likewise advises measuring the model itself rather than relying on box size or piece count; see its Showcase-Pro sizing guidance.
Compare the model with the usable interior
Write down the model’s width, depth and height, then compare each measurement with the case’s internal dimensions. Exterior dimensions include the walls, base or other construction, so they can overstate the space available inside. For example, KGBOX lists Showcase-Pro cases with external dimensions of 30 × 30 × 40 cm and 60 × 30 × 40 cm; their corresponding internal fit limits are 29 × 29 × 39 cm and 59 × 29 × 39 cm.

Do not plan for a close, wall-to-wall fit. You need enough clearance to lower or slide the model into the case without rubbing it against the panels. Sellers offer different guidance: Incasedisplays recommends adding at least 1 inch to each overall dimension for its custom case, while KGBOX advises allowing extra room for positioning and sizing up when a model is close to the limit. These are seller-specific recommendations, not a universal standard. Follow the sizing instructions for the case you choose.
Choose a format that suits the model and display
Compact official LEGO case
LEGO’s US listing for the Play and Display Case – Blue 5006157 describes a two-level presentation case with six gray baseplates, a transparent cover and a LEGO backdrop. It is stated to be over 7.5 in (19 cm) high, 15.5 in (39 cm) wide and 5.5 in (14 cm) deep. The LEGO Shop US listing says models and minifigures are not included. Treat it as a compact-format option and check the completed model’s actual fit rather than assuming a particular set will fit.

Ready-made stackable acrylic case
KGBOX lists two Showcase-Pro sizes made from 5 mm acrylic, with magnetic front access and a freely stackable design. Optional outline LED back panels are available, but each panel must match its case size; the two sizes are not cross-compatible. A made-to-order case can be useful when the model is unusually large or irregular, or when ready-made interiors do not leave adequate clearance. Incasedisplays describes a flat-packed case cut to entered dimensions, with a magnetic snap front and black acrylic base. Its entered dimensions are interior dimensions, and it recommends allowing at least 1 inch of extra space per dimension: Incasedisplays custom display case.

Puffin Plastics offers a bespoke case with selectable acrylic thicknesses from 3 to 10 mm. Its listed dimensions are external, with a stated ±1 mm tolerance, and its calculator describes the resulting internal clearance: Puffin Plastics custom acrylic display cases.

- Access: Check whether the cover lifts off, opens at the front or uses another mechanism. Magnetic front access is listed for KGBOX’s Showcase-Pro and Incasedisplays’ custom case.
- Base and footprint: Check the base style and the space the case will occupy, including any lip or panels that affect the exterior size.
- Material and thickness: Confirm the material and stated thickness for the exact product. KGBOX specifies 5 mm acrylic for Showcase-Pro; Puffin Plastics offers selectable acrylic thicknesses from 3 to 10 mm for its bespoke case.
- Placement: If you plan to stack cases or mount one on a wall, confirm that the particular model is designed for that use. KGBOX describes Showcase-Pro as freely stackable.
- Lighting: Check whether lighting is included or optional, and whether accessories are compatible with your case’s size. KGBOX’s optional outline LED back panel is size-specific.
- Practical terms: Check assembly requirements, shipping to your location, lead time and return terms before ordering.
Seller specifications describe real differences in size, access, base, lighting and customization, but the cited pages do not provide controlled comparative tests of durability, optical clarity, dust sealing or UV performance. Choose from the stated specifications rather than treating one case as proven superior on those measures.
Read dust and UV claims narrowly
Product pages use different protection language: Incasedisplays calls its clear acrylic UV-resistant, Flying Box describes protection from dust and UV rays, and KGBOX describes its acrylic case as dust-resistant. These are seller descriptions, not comparable test results. The cited listings do not state UV-transmission percentages or independent comparative measurements, so “UV-resistant” should not be read as a quantified guarantee. Keeping a model out of direct sunlight is a prudent display choice, but the available product information does not establish a measured fade-prevention benefit.

Flying Box’s custom-case page gives its own measurement example and states that custom orders are not returnable. Check its current instructions and policy before submitting dimensions: Flying Box custom-made acrylic display case.
Confirm measurement conventions before a custom order
Custom sellers do not all mean the same thing by “dimensions.” One seller may ask for the interior space you need; another may calculate the case from its outside measurements. Before ordering, verify the convention on the live product page and confirm the clearance, tolerance, lead time and return policy in writing if anything is unclear.
- Incasedisplays asks for interior, wall-to-wall dimensions and notes that exterior dimensions become larger because of panel thickness and the base lip.
- Puffin Plastics says its calculator uses external dimensions and describes the resulting internal clearance; it states a ±1 mm tolerance.
- Flying Box provides its own example of adding space to item dimensions and says custom orders are not returnable.
These details and seller policies can change. Recheck the current listing, measurement instructions, shipping destination and return terms before placing an order.
