Cybersecurity analytics degrees apply data analysis to security problems, but there is no single standardized degree title or curriculum. To choose well, compare the actual courses, delivery format, credit requirements, admissions prerequisites, total cost and any cybersecurity designation—not just the program name.
What is cybersecurity analytics?
Cybersecurity analytics applies data science methods to security data and decisions. Depending on the program, that work can involve statistical modeling, machine learning or behavioral analysis to detect threats, identify vulnerabilities and inform incident response. Not every degree teaches every method.

It differs from general cybersecurity, which covers a broader range of security work, and from general data analytics, which may not focus on security data or operations. Program names vary: Penn State, for example, calls its undergraduate degree Cybersecurity Analytics and Operations, reflecting a blend of analytics and security operations.
Which cybersecurity analytics degree programs are available?
Examples include programs at undergraduate and graduate levels, including online options. These examples are not a complete national inventory or a ranking; confirm current availability and details with each institution.
#1 Best Overall
- Penn State’s B.S. in Cybersecurity Analytics and Operations: the 2026–2027 Undergraduate Bulletin describes an interdisciplinary undergraduate program. Check the bulletin for degree requirements and campus availability.
- Champlain College Online’s M.S. in Cybersecurity Analytics: an online master’s program. Consult the school for its current curriculum, credits, tuition and admissions requirements.
- The University of New Mexico’s M.S. in Cybersecurity and Business Analytics: a fully online master’s program. Check the school page for current prerequisites and degree requirements.
A broader cybersecurity or business degree with analytics coursework may also fit, but inspect its required courses to determine how much of the program focuses on security data and analysis.
What should the curriculum include?
Compare required courses, not just course titles in an optional elective list. Look for a coherent mix of analytics and security foundations, then check how the program applies them in practical work.
- Statistics and data analysis: methods for interpreting security data and assessing patterns.
- Programming: coursework that helps students work with data and tools used in security contexts.
- Networking and cybersecurity foundations: knowledge needed to interpret events and risks in their technical context.
- Security operations: material connected to threat detection, vulnerability analysis or incident response.
- Applied work: a capstone, research project or other substantial experience that brings analysis and security together.
These are comparison dimensions, not a universal required-course list. Each program sets its own curriculum, and the title alone does not establish that all these areas are covered.
How do I compare format, length, cost and admissions?
Use the same questions for every school on your shortlist. A published tuition figure is not necessarily the total you will pay: residency, mandatory fees, course load and academic year can change the amount. Ask the institution for a current estimate for your student category and intended pace.
Rank #3
- Confirm the exact credential and location. Check the degree level, official program name, campus or online status, and whether the program is accepting students.
- Map the required curriculum. Compare required analytics, programming, networking, security operations and applied-work courses.
- Calculate the academic commitment. Verify required credits and ask how long completion typically takes at the pace you expect to study.
- Estimate the full cost for your situation. Request current tuition and mandatory fees for your residency or student category, then account for the credits you must complete. Do not treat a secondary listing or an estimate as a guaranteed net price.
- Check admissions prerequisites. Confirm required prior degrees, coursework, technical preparation and any other conditions directly with the institution.
- Verify recognition and current program details. Check any claimed designation in the relevant official directory and confirm curriculum, delivery, cost and admissions information on school pages.
The available examples do not support a like-for-like tuition table or a universal best-program ranking. Compare current school-published figures on consistent assumptions rather than relying on stale or differently calculated totals.
What does an NSA CAE designation mean?
The National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (CAE) program is managed by NSA’s National Cryptologic University with federal partners. Its stated aims include establishing cybersecurity curriculum and academic excellence standards, developing competencies, encouraging professional development and outreach, integrating cybersecurity practice across disciplines, and engaging with cybersecurity education challenges. See the NSA CAE program overview.
Rank #4
NSA says CAE-CD is awarded to regionally accredited academic institutions offering cybersecurity degrees or certificates at associate, bachelor’s and graduate levels. The designation is an institutional signal; it does not guarantee job placement, the quality of every individual course, financial aid or government employment. Check the current NSA list because designation status can change.

NSA explains that CAE-designated institutions validate a Program of Study: “a series of courses and experiences that a student can reasonably accomplish in the course of attaining a degree or completing a certificate.” Requirements differ among designations. For example, the NSA’s CAE in Cyber Operations Fundamental criteria say successful designation lasts five academic years before reapplication and that designation itself does not commit the sponsor to provide funding. Those terms apply to that specific designation and should not be assumed to govern every CAE designation.

Is a cybersecurity analytics degree worth it?
It depends on your background, career goals, the curriculum and the total cost. A program may be a good fit if its required courses develop the analytics and security skills you want, its format works for you, and its price and time commitment make sense. If you already have substantial preparation in one area, compare how much of the degree fills a real gap rather than duplicating what you know.
Do not use an advertised job or salary figure as a promise of what a degree will deliver. The sources cited here do not establish a traceable workforce statistic or salary figure for these programs, and a degree alone cannot guarantee a particular job or pay level.
