The best convertible laptop depends on whether you want a full-size laptop that folds into tablet mode or a detachable tablet with a keyboard you can remove. For a large OLED workspace, consider the LG gram Pro 2-in-1 16; for a compact premium convertible, the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition 14 is a distinct option. The Microsoft Surface Pro 13 is tablet-first, the Lenovo IdeaPad 5a 2-in-1 14 is a more conventional lower-cost Windows choice, and the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 360 is aimed at basic Chromebook tasks. These are picks for different needs, not a single ranking of interchangeable machines. Check the exact generation, configuration, regional availability, and accessory requirements before buying.
Five convertible laptops to consider
These recommendations draw on RTINGS’ October 1, 2026 roundup, TechRadar’s 2026 guide, and WIRED’s September 2026 update. Review results reflect the particular configurations and tests described by each publication; they are not a promise that every regional SKU performs identically.

1. LG gram Pro 2-in-1 16 (2026): a large screen that folds back
RTINGS names this the best 2-in-1 it has tested in its October 1, 2026 update. Its 16-inch OLED touchscreen has a 120Hz refresh rate, and the machine is light for its screen size. It suits everyday work, photo editing, and occasional video projects when you want a generous laptop workspace that can fold into tablet mode.

There are meaningful compromises: the large chassis is awkward to hold as a tablet, the keyboard requires a firm press, and demanding workloads can make it hot and reduce performance. Choose it for its display and laptop-first flexibility, not as a comfortable handheld tablet or a guaranteed sustained-performance workstation.

2. Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition 14: a compact premium convertible
RTINGS presents the 2025 Aura Edition as a more portable alternative to the LG, with a 14-inch OLED display and longer battery life, but lower CPU performance and less widespread availability. WIRED’s September 2026 update describes a 2026 version that is largely similar but uses a newer Intel Core Ultra 7 355 processor. Those are separate generations: check the exact year and configuration rather than assuming the 2025 model has the 2026 processor.
This is the more natural fit if you want a premium 360-degree hinge design in a smaller size for carrying and occasional tablet use. The evidence here does not establish a single battery figure that applies to every configuration.
3. Microsoft Surface Pro 13 12th Edition (2026): tablet-first and detachable
RTINGS recommends this smaller detachable for reading, drawing, and note-taking. In its OLED configuration, it lasted over 11 hours in RTINGS’ light-use testing; that result is specific to the review’s configuration and test conditions, not a general battery guarantee. A Windows-on-ARM processor can create compatibility problems with specialized software, games, or peripherals, so check the apps and devices you depend on before choosing it.

The kickstand makes it less stable on a lap than a conventional hinged laptop, and its screen provides less workspace than a 16-inch model. The keyboard and pen are sold separately, so count them in the total cost and verify that accessories are compatible with the exact generation.
4. Lenovo IdeaPad 5a 2-in-1 14 (2026): a conventional lower-cost Windows option
RTINGS recommends this as a lower-cost alternative to the Surface for buyers who prefer an attached keyboard and more stable lap use. Its standard IPS screen looks less sharp than the Surface’s display, although an optional OLED screen is available. The build is less sturdy, and the touchpad is small and plastic.
The basic processor is suited to browsing and documents; stronger processor options are available for more demanding work. Check the configuration you are buying, because the model name alone does not establish which processor or display it includes.

5. Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 360: a budget Chromebook for basic tasks
TechRadar names this its current budget 2-in-1 pick, citing a 12.4-inch, 2560 × 1600 touchscreen. In the configuration TechRadar tested, 4GB of RAM and a Celeron N4500 limit intensive multitasking. Its video-playback test lasted about 6 hours 30 minutes; that is a test-specific result, not a directly comparable figure to light-use or web-surfing tests on other laptops.
It is best framed as a Chromebook for basic tasks, not as a substitute for a more capable Windows convertible. Availability may be uneven, so confirm stock and the exact configuration before treating it as a current buy.
How to choose the right 2-in-1 laptop
Decide whether you need a hinge or a detachable
A 360-degree convertible keeps the keyboard attached as the screen folds behind it. That design is generally the more laptop-like choice for working on your lap. A detachable such as the Surface Pro can be lighter and more comfortable as a tablet, but its kickstand setup may be less stable on a lap, and the keyboard is an additional purchase.

- 2x USB Type-C, 2x USB Type-A, 1x Headphone/Microphone Jack
- Super-Fast Wifi and Bluetooth Combo, Integrated Webcam
- Chrome OS, AC Charger Included, Dale Black Color
Match screen size to how you will use tablet mode
A 16-inch screen offers more room for documents, editing, and multitasking, but is cumbersome to hold. A 13- or 14-inch device is easier to carry or use in tablet mode, while a smaller detachable prioritizes tablet tasks over workspace. Consider where the machine will sit and how often you will actually hold it rather than relying on the “2-in-1” label alone.
Check the display and pen details
OLED and IPS panels differ in appearance, while resolution and refresh rate affect how sharp and fluid the screen looks. For handwriting or drawing, confirm pen support and whether a pen is included. The reviewed information establishes a 120Hz OLED touchscreen for the LG and an OLED option for the Surface and Yoga models, but does not establish that a pen is included with every listed laptop. Verify the exact bundle and accessory compatibility.

Choose for your actual workload and software
Match processor and memory to the apps you use, not just the device category. The tested Galaxy Chromebook configuration’s 4GB RAM and Celeron N4500 constrain intensive multitasking; the IdeaPad’s basic processor is intended for browsing and documents, with stronger options available. For sustained demanding work, note that RTINGS reports heat and reduced performance on the LG. If considering the ARM-based Surface, confirm compatibility for specialized applications, games, and peripherals first.

Compare battery results only when the tests match
Battery figures from different methods should not be treated as a head-to-head ranking. RTINGS’ over-11-hour figure for the Surface OLED is from light-use testing. TechRadar reports about 6 hours 30 minutes for the Galaxy Chromebook 2 360 in video playback, just over 11 hours for the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i in web surfing, and slightly under 10 hours for that laptop in PCMark 10 battery testing. Those results differ by model and test method; none predicts precisely how long another configuration will run in your routine.
Calculate ownership cost and connectivity needs
For a detachable, include the keyboard and pen if you need them, and confirm generation-specific compatibility. Check the port selection on the configuration you plan to buy and whether your peripherals will require adapters. For example, TechRadar criticizes the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i (Gen 10) for having only two USB-C ports and no headphone jack. It is a different model from the Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition, not another name for it.

Similar names can obscure important differences. RTINGS and WIRED discuss the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition, including different 2025 and 2026 configurations. TechRadar’s guide separately names the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i (Gen 10), a 14-inch OLED laptop it calls a mid-range 2-in-1. Do not treat the Yoga Slim 9i and Yoga 9i 2-in-1 as the same product when comparing specifications or buying.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTechRadar reports just over 11 hours in its web-surfing test and slightly under 10 hours in its PCMark 10 battery test for the Yoga Slim 9i. It also notes the limited two-USB-C port selection and lack of a headphone jack. These observations apply to that model and its reviewed configuration, not the Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition.
Should you buy a 2-in-1 laptop?
Buy one if switching between laptop work and touch-based activities such as reading, drawing, or note-taking is useful enough to justify the trade-offs. For regular typing on a lap, a 360-degree convertible with an attached keyboard is usually the more straightforward fit. For tablet-first use, a detachable may be more appealing, provided you account for its stand, keyboard, accessory cost, and software compatibility. If you will rarely use tablet mode, prioritize the laptop experience—screen, keyboard, performance, ports, and battery—over the convertible label.
