There is no defensible universal “top five” in the available evidence: these models have not been compared under shared tests, prices, or regional availability. Instead, use this shortlist by workload, then compare local specifications, toner costs, and cartridge policies before buying. The examples below draw on manufacturer specifications and one 2026 editorial roundup—not hands-on testing by this publication—and are not ranked.
Start with the job the printer needs to do
Choose print-only if you only need hard copies. If you also need to scan, copy, or fax, a multifunction printer can replace separate devices. For document-heavy work, check whether the machine can automatically print on both sides and whether its scanner can also scan both sides automatically. Those are separate capabilities.

Next, match the printer to the workspace. Check the recommended monthly print volume, paper capacity, physical dimensions, and whether the connections you need—USB, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi—are available on the exact regional model. Wireless and duplex printing are useful shortlist criteria, not guarantees that every model includes them.
Five color laser models to consider by use case
This is a use-case shortlist, not a ranking. The available sources do not provide a common comparison of five printers’ current prices, supply costs, performance, and local availability.

1. Canon Color imageCLASS MF753Cdw II — multifunction for a small office
Canon lists print, scan, copy, and fax functions, USB, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi, plus a standard 250-sheet cassette. Its manufacturer-rated maximum is up to 35 pages per minute on letter paper; that is a published specification, not an independent speed test. Canon recommends a monthly print volume of 750–4,000 pages for this model. It accepts Canon Genuine Toner 069 or 069 H cartridges, and Canon lists an optional cassette that raises maximum paper capacity to 850 sheets. Canon’s product page and support specifications provide the model details. Check current availability and price in your region.
For scanning, Canon lists a 50-sheet, one-pass duplex automatic document feeder. That is a useful distinction if you regularly scan two-sided originals; do not assume a printer’s duplex-print feature also means duplex scanning.

2. HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw — multifunction with a cartridge policy to consider
HP lists print, scan, copy, and fax functions, a recommended monthly print volume of 750–4,000 pages, and replacement cartridge options in the 210A and 210X families. HP’s listed 210X yields include approximately 7,500 pages for black and 5,500 pages for each listed color cartridge. These are not guaranteed page counts: HP says actual yield varies with printed content and other factors. See HP’s product specifications.

HP also says this model is intended to work with cartridges using a new or reused HP chip, and that dynamic security can block cartridges without an HP chip. If you prefer supplies from other manufacturers, verify the policy for the exact regional variant and check it again before purchase; firmware and product terms can change. HP describes this in its dynamic security information.

3. Brother HL-L8430CDW — print-only color with duplex printing
Brother’s U.S. catalog identifies the HL-L8430CDW as a wireless business color laser printer with duplex printing. That catalog description is enough to make it a print-only candidate if you do not need scanning or copying, but not enough for a full buying comparison. Before choosing it, check Brother’s detailed U.S. specification sheet for paper capacity, speed, dimensions, supported media, toner and other maintenance supplies, and the exact wireless and mobile-printing features. 4. Xerox C325 — home-office all-in-one candidate
A 2026 TechRadar home-printer roundup includes the Xerox C325 as a color laser all-in-one and reports up to 33 pages per minute. That is the outlet’s reported specification, not a test result from this publication. Check Xerox’s official specification for your region before relying on the speed, features, or compatibility; regional variants and availability can differ.

5. Brother MFC-L8390CDW — multifunction candidate, with regional details to verify
Brother UK describes the MFC-L8390CDW as an all-rounder and discusses its scanning and duplex-printing capabilities. The source covers the UK lineup, so do not assume the same suffix, features, or included wireless capability applies elsewhere. Confirm the local model’s full specifications and whether wireless is built in or requires an accessory. Brother UK’s product page

A low purchase price does not tell you what routine printing will cost. Check the precise toner family, the manufacturer’s declared yield and how it is qualified, local cartridge prices, and whether the printer uses separate drums or other maintenance items. A cost-per-page comparison is useful only when the cartridge prices, yields, and calculation method are current and comparable; the figures above do not establish one.

Use a consistent checklist before buying
Compare the exact local versions of your finalists on the same points. Manufacturer speed figures are not necessarily directly comparable, and regional product names can conceal different specifications.
- Functions: print-only or multifunction; identify whether scan, copy, and fax are included.
- Duplex: confirm automatic two-sided printing and, separately, automatic two-sided scanning.
- Workload: check the recommended monthly volume, not just the maximum speed.
- Paper: compare standard and expandable capacity, supported sizes and media, and whether the paper handling fits your routine.
- Workspace and connections: compare dimensions and the USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and mobile-printing options you need.
- Supplies and service: verify cartridge models, declared yields, local availability, maintenance items, cartridge policies, and warranty terms.
- Price and stock: check current local prices and availability at the time you buy; the cited evidence does not establish a shared, dated price comparison.
Make the choice by workflow
If you need fax and a duplex document feeder, start by checking whether the Canon MF753Cdw II or HP 4301fdw meets your local requirements, then compare their consumables and cartridge policies. If you only need duplex color printing, investigate the Brother HL-L8430CDW’s full U.S. specifications. For a home-office all-in-one, the Xerox C325 and Brother MFC-L8390CDW are candidates to verify against official local specifications. The best fit depends on your functions, volume, supply preferences, and regional model—not a ranking unsupported by shared tests.
