Choose an AION 2 class by the role and combat style you want to play—not by an assumed universal “best class.” NCSOFT’s announced roles point to Templar for tanking, Gladiator for wide-area melee, Assassin for precision melee, Marksman for ranged scouting, Sorcerer for burst magic, Spiritmaster for a solo-oriented identity, Cleric for healing with highlighted damage capability, and Chanter for group support. These are role descriptions, not current rankings; NCSOFT announced a major class rebalance in March 2026.
Which AION 2 class fits your playstyle?
Start with the kind of job you want to do in combat. The role labels below come from NCSOFT’s May 2025 class presentation; they are useful for narrowing your choice, but they do not measure damage, difficulty, leveling speed, PvP strength, or group demand.

Check the current client and your region for the names used where you play.
Choose by the job you want to do
If you want to tank
Start with Templar. It is the one class NCSOFT explicitly identifies as the core tanking role.

If you want physical melee
Compare Gladiator’s wide-area attacks with Assassin’s precision-based melee identity. The official descriptions establish a difference in combat emphasis, not a ranking between them.
If you want to fight from range
Consider the long-range scout class. NCSOFT’s 2025 English announcement calls it Marksman; newer community material uses Ranger. Verify the name shown in your region’s client.

If you want magic
Sorcerer is described around high-burst magic damage, while Spiritmaster is described around solo play. Those short role descriptions do not establish which is stronger or more efficient in current solo content.

Cleric and Chanter offer different starting points: the publisher highlights improved damage capability for Cleric and versatile support utility for Chanter. The announcements do not fully specify current healing rotations or how much groups demand either class.

How to decide between two classes
- Pick your preferred combat job. Decide whether you most want to tank, use broad or precise melee attacks, fight at range, focus on burst magic, play a solo-oriented summoning identity, or support a group.
- Think about the content you expect to play. A role description alone does not tell you how a class performs in a particular PvE or PvP mode.
- Check dated, regional evidence before choosing for strength. Look for information that identifies the patch, region, and mode, rather than relying on an undated tier list.
- Confirm the class name and availability in your client. English sources vary on Marksman/Ranger and Spiritmaster/Elementalist, and the announced roster does not establish current availability in every region.
What the March 2026 class update means
On March 25, 2026, NCSOFT announced a comprehensive class rebalance, new Stigma skills, and separate PvP and PvE damage calculations. Its announcement names new skills for Gladiator, Templar, Chanter, Cleric, Elementalist, Sorcerer, Assassin, and Ranger. This confirms that class skills and tuning changed; the announcement does not, by itself, provide a current performance ranking or enough detail to compare every class. See NCSOFT’s March 25, 2026 class update.
The cited official materials establish an eight-class presentation in 2025, not the exact live roster or availability in each region as of October 7, 2026. Treat the role map as a starting point and verify region-specific details in the live game.
