Windows Dynamic Lock can lock an idle Windows 10 or 11 PC when a paired Bluetooth phone moves out of range. Google’s “Lock phone when left behind” feature supports Pixel Watch 2 or newer with eligible Pixel phones and software. A tracker tag’s location or left-behind alert is not, by itself, a lock trigger.
Start with the device you want to lock
The right choice depends on whether the target is a Windows computer or an Android phone. First verify that its operating system supports the intended lock behavior; then check the exact phone, wearable, app, and software requirements. Buying a Bluetooth tracker before checking compatibility risks getting a device that can locate keys but cannot lock your computer or phone.

For a Windows PC: use Dynamic Lock with a Bluetooth phone
Microsoft documents Dynamic Lock for Windows 10 and Windows 11. It uses the received signal strength of a paired Bluetooth phone; when the signal falls below a threshold, Windows locks the PC if the system is idle. Microsoft’s key qualification is: “The dynamic lock feature only locks the device if the Bluetooth signal falls and the system is idle.” Microsoft Learn: Dynamic lock
This timing matters. Dynamic Lock is not an immediate, distance-measuring boundary: the PC can remain accessible if someone uses it before the signal falls or while the system is active. Treat it as a useful extra barrier, not a replacement for manually locking the computer when you leave.

For a Pixel phone: check “Lock phone when left behind” compatibility
Google documents a Pixel Watch feature named “Lock phone when left behind.” It is intended to lock a supported Pixel phone after the paired watch connection drops, with identity validation in the sequence before locking. The support page lists Pixel Watch 2 or newer and minimum software requirements: Android build CP1A or newer, Watch app version 4.3 or newer, and Google Play services version 26.08.30 or newer. Requirements can change, so verify the current support page and the specific phone’s eligibility before purchasing a watch. Do not assume that every Pixel, Android phone, or smartwatch works with this feature.

Do not confuse “stay unlocked” settings with auto-locking
Android Extend Unlock
Android’s trusted-device option does the opposite of locking on departure: it can keep a phone or tablet unlocked while it is connected to a trusted Bluetooth device, such as a watch or car speaker. Google recommends using trusted devices, but says connection range varies by device and environment and can be up to 100 meters. It also warns that a Bluetooth connection may be imitated. Samsung’s Smart Lock support article describes a trusted Bluetooth device as keeping a Galaxy phone unlocked while nearby or connected, with the phone potentially locking after disconnection. The article is dated December 9, 2021, and notes that menus may differ by model and software. Check current Samsung guidance for your device rather than treating the older article as a verified present-day setup path. Samsung support

What Bluetooth trackers can—and cannot—do
Samsung SmartThings Find documents nearby Bluetooth search, ringing or signal-strength guidance for supported devices, and notifications when a device is left behind. Google describes Find My Device as a Bluetooth-proximity network for locating compatible belongings and devices. These are finding features, not evidence that ordinary tracker tags can trigger a lock on a separate Windows PC or phone. Samsung SmartThings Find; Google Android
Google said in 2024 that its planned Find My Device network would harness over one billion Android devices to help locate lost belongings through Bluetooth proximity. That is a description of the announced network’s scale—not the number of active tracker users or a measure of locking reliability. Google Android

Account for Bluetooth uncertainty and security
Bluetooth connection loss is not a precise distance measurement. Walls, interference, device models, and settings can affect when a connection drops, and the reviewed official sources do not provide a comparative reliability measurement for proximity locking. Google also cautions that trusted places can extend beyond a building, with an estimated radius of up to about 100 meters. Its Extend Unlock guidance says on-body detection may take up to one minute to lock after a phone is set down and 5–10 minutes in a vehicle; automatic locking may fail on an airplane or boat. Keep the device’s ordinary screen-lock protections enabled, and manually lock sensitive devices when appropriate. Proximity features are best treated as a convenience and extra layer, not a guarantee that a device becomes inaccessible the moment you leave.

Check unwanted-tracker protections when buying a tag
Apple reported on May 13, 2024 that unwanted-tracker alerts were implemented in iOS 17.5 and Android 6.0+, and named Chipolo, eufy, Jio, Motorola, and Pebblebee as manufacturers that had committed to future compatibility. That announcement records the rollout and commitments at that time; it does not establish compatibility for every current tracker model or software version.
