The best Bluetooth soundbar for your TV depends on two separate checks: whether it can stream audio from your phone over Bluetooth, and whether it connects to your TV through a port the TV actually has. The JBL Bar 500 and Sony HT-S2000 are two documented options with Bluetooth and HDMI eARC/ARC; they differ in channel layout, bass arrangement and availability. The specifications below are manufacturer claims, not independent listening-test results.

What makes a soundbar a Bluetooth soundbar?

Here, “Bluetooth soundbar” means a bar that can receive audio from a Bluetooth source such as a phone. That capability does not determine how the soundbar connects to a TV. A model can support Bluetooth streaming and use HDMI eARC/ARC or optical for TV audio, so check both the soundbar’s inputs and the ports on your television.

Can you play music from a phone through a soundbar?

Yes, if the soundbar supports Bluetooth source audio. Pair the phone with the bar using the manufacturers’ instructions, then select Bluetooth as the soundbar’s source. Bluetooth playback from a phone is distinct from sending TV audio to the bar over HDMI or optical.

How the two documented models compare

This comparison is based on manufacturer specifications, not side-by-side listening tests. Features, package contents and stock can vary by region or product SKU; check the listing for the exact model you plan to buy.

Model Bluetooth and TV connections Channels and bass Formats and expansion
JBL Bar 500 Bluetooth 5.0; HDMI eARC; optical 5.1 channels; included wireless 10-inch subwoofer Dolby Atmos and MultiBeam
Sony HT-S2000 Bluetooth 5.2; HDMI eARC/ARC; optical; USB for WAV playback 3.1 channels; built-in dual subwoofer Dolby Atmos and DTS:X; compatible Sony wireless subwoofer and rear speakers are optional add-ons

JBL Bar 500: separate subwoofer included

JBL lists the Bar 500 as a 5.1-channel system with Dolby Atmos, MultiBeam, Bluetooth 5.0 (A2DP 1.2 and AVRCP 1.5), HDMI eARC and optical input. A wireless 10-inch subwoofer is included. JBL reports 590 W maximum total speaker output; that is a manufacturer specification, not evidence that it sounds better than another model. The listed bar measures 1017 x 56 x 103.5 mm, and the subwoofer measures 305 x 440.4 x 305 mm, so check available space before choosing it. See JBL’s Bar 500 specifications and the JBL Global product page.

Sony HT-S2000: bass built into the bar

Sony lists the HT-S2000 as a 3.1-channel model with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Bluetooth 5.2, HDMI eARC/ARC, optical input and USB playback for WAV files. Its dual subwoofer is built in; compatible Sony wireless subwoofer and rear speakers are optional expansion choices. The U.S. Sony product page currently says “Item no longer available,” so do not assume it is in stock there. Check availability in your region before considering a purchase. See Sony’s HT-S2000 product page.

Amazon Fire TV Soundbar, 2.0 speaker with DTS Virtual:X and Dolby Audio, Bluetooth connectivity
  • Amp up your audio - Fire TV Soundbar enhances TV audio with dual speakers for fuller sound, clearer dialogue, and deeper bass—all in a compact design.
  • Immersive sound - Enjoy a three-dimensional virtual surround sound experience with DTS Virtual:X and more detail with Dolby Audio.
  • Easy setup - Just plug in the included HDMI cable to the HDMI eARC/ARC port on your TV to instantly enjoy audio that's always in sync.
  • Compact design - With a length of 24“ and a height of just 2.5", Fire TV Soundbar fits most entertainment consoles and TV stands.
  • Stream audio with Bluetooth - Connect your phone or tablet via Bluetooth to fill the room with your favorite music.

How to choose between them

  1. Check the TV connection first. Confirm which ports your TV has, then verify that the bar supports a compatible connection. Both models list HDMI eARC/ARC; both also list optical input, though the JBL page specifies HDMI eARC and the Sony page specifies eARC/ARC.
  2. Decide how you want bass handled. The JBL package includes a separate wireless subwoofer, which needs its own floor or shelf space. Sony builds a dual subwoofer into the HT-S2000 bar, with compatible external subwoofer expansion available separately.
  3. Match the layout to your room. The listed channel configurations are 5.1 for JBL and 3.1 for Sony. Channel counts describe system layouts; they do not, by themselves, establish how convincing surround effects or dialogue will sound in your room.
  4. Check formats and expansion needs. JBL lists Dolby Atmos and MultiBeam; Sony lists Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, plus optional compatible wireless subwoofer and rear speakers. Choose based on the formats and add-ons you intend to use, and confirm compatibility with your TV and other equipment.
  5. Verify the exact regional product and stock. Check package contents, model number and current availability on the manufacturer or retailer listing. This is especially important for the HT-S2000 in the United States, where Sony’s page reports it is no longer available.

What the specifications cannot tell you

Manufacturer pages establish listed connections, formats and system features; they do not provide a controlled comparison of sound quality, dialogue intelligibility or real-world bass performance. In particular, do not use JBL’s 590 W maximum output figure as a sound-quality ranking or as proof that it will outperform the Sony. If listening performance is your deciding factor, seek independent tests of the exact model and consider auditioning it in conditions similar to your room.

The Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is not included as a Bluetooth recommendation here: the reviewed official materials list HDMI eARC and network/app features, but do not confirm direct Bluetooth source streaming for this use case. See the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) fact sheet and Sonos product page.
