If you only want the original Bloodborne, buy the base game; if you want its story expansion, The Old Hunters, choose a bundle that explicitly includes it or compare the bundle with buying the game and add-on separately. Prices and availability vary by region, so check the total and exact contents in your local PlayStation Store or physical listing before paying.
What each Bloodborne edition includes
| Option | Included content | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Base game | Bloodborne only; The Old Hunters is a separate add-on. | Suitable if you do not want the expansion. PlayStation lists the base game separately from its Complete Edition Bundle. PlayStation’s Bloodborne page. |
| Game of the Year Edition | The original game plus The Old Hunters. | Sony announced this PS4 edition in October 2015 as including the expansion. The announcement establishes its historical contents, not current stock or price. Sony’s announcement. |
| The Old Hunters Edition | The original game plus The Old Hunters DLC. | FromSoftware’s product page identifies it as a PS4 product released in Japan in December 2015. Its historical local price is not a current offer. FromSoftware’s product page. |
| Complete Edition Bundle | The full game plus The Old Hunters. | The US PlayStation Store lists this as a digital PS4 bundle, alongside the base game and separate expansion add-on. Check your own regional store for current price and entitlements. US PlayStation Store listing. |
The expansion adds story content as well as environments, outfits, weapons, and beast transformations, according to Sony’s 2015 announcement. The named GOTY and Old Hunters editions package it with the base game; a base-game purchase alone does not mean you own the expansion.

How to compare the cost without overbuying
- Decide whether you want The Old Hunters. If not, compare the base-game listing against bundles and avoid paying extra for content you do not plan to use.
- If you want it, compare the complete bundle with the two-item route. In your regional PlayStation Store, compare the Complete Edition Bundle total with the base game plus the standalone expansion add-on. Prices and discounts change, so there is no universally cheapest choice established here.
- Check the final contents and total before checkout. Confirm the expansion is included or added to your purchase, and make the comparison using the store and currency for your region.
What to check on a physical or used copy
Official product pages establish that physical editions combining the game and expansion have existed, but they do not confirm the contents or condition of a particular reseller’s copy. Before buying, check:

- The exact edition name and whether the listing explicitly says The Old Hunters is included.
- The disc’s region and condition, along with any stated codes or other DLC entitlements.
- Whether the included expansion is actually usable with your copy. The cited official pages do not establish compatibility for every disc-and-DLC regional combination, so do not assume it.
Playing on PS5
The US PlayStation Store listing says the PS4 game can be played on PS5, but warns that some PS4 features may be absent. Check the current store and console details for your region before buying; the listing does not promise that every PS4 feature is available on PS5.
