To find your Windows 11 build number quickly, press Windows key + R, type winver, and press Enter. The About Windows dialog shows the version and build. You can also open Settings > System > About to review Windows specifications and device details.
Find the build with winver
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type winver and press Enter.
- Read the About Windows dialog. Note the displayed build value, including all digits, and the version if the support request asks for it.
You can also type winver in taskbar search and select the result. Microsoft documents winver as a way to check Windows version and build information. Microsoft’s Windows Insider guidance describes both winver and About as build lookup routes; Microsoft’s activation help says winver shows the Windows version and build.

Find Windows details in Settings
- Right-click Start and choose Settings.
- Select System, then About.
- Scroll to Windows specifications and check the edition and version. The About page is also a route to build information; if you need the clearest build readout, use winver.
Microsoft’s device-information instructions identify Windows specifications as the place to find the edition and version. Microsoft’s Insider guidance also points to About for build information.
Know which Windows number to report
- Edition identifies the product edition, such as Home or Pro.
- Version identifies the Windows release or feature version.
- OS build is the numeric identifier for the installed build. If a support request asks for “OS build,” give that value—not only the edition or version.
Copy the full displayed build value rather than shortening it, so support can distinguish it precisely. If a form requests multiple fields, match each answer to the field label.

If winver does not appear in search
Open Run with Windows key + R, enter winver, and press Enter. Both winver and Settings are built into Windows, so this lookup requires no download or purchase. If your organization manages the device or its support process requests a screenshot, follow its instructions.
