To see which system software is installed on your PS5, open Settings > System > System Software > Console Information. To check for a newer release, open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Sony’s support instructions describe how to check the installed version and troubleshoot a recent update, but not a dedicated on-console list of every version previously installed.
Check the system software version installed on your PS5
- From the PS5 home screen, select Settings (the gear icon).
- Choose System.
- Open System Software, then select Console Information.
- Read the system software version shown on the screen. Sony says Up to date appears beneath the version when the latest version is installed. Sony’s PS5 system software support page has the current instructions and wording.
Check for and install an available update
- Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
- Select Update System Software. If a newer release is available, the console shows Update Available; follow the on-screen instructions to install it. See Sony’s update instructions for current prompts.
The version shown in Console Information is the version currently installed. The update check answers a different question: whether the console can install a newer version. Sony’s wording and menu labels may change as system software evolves, so follow the current prompts displayed on your console.

Find PS5 system software update history
Sony’s documented version-check steps show the installed version, and its troubleshooting steps let you inspect a recent system-software update in Downloads/Uploads. The support instructions do not describe a screen that lists every system-software version previously installed on an individual PS5.

Update safely—and do not confuse updating with reinstalling
- Use only official update data and Sony’s documented installation methods.
- Do not turn off the console while an update is installing; interrupting installation can damage the console.
- Reinstalling system software is not a routine update or a way to check history. Sony warns: “Reinstalling the system software on your PS5 console will delete all of the data on your PS5 console.” Check Sony’s instructions carefully before choosing any reinstall option.
