Family organizers can check a connected family member’s reported Xbox app and game use in Microsoft Family Safety. Microsoft’s cited guidance does not establish a self-service cloud-session history page for adult players. As of October 4, 2026, Xbox’s new monthly cloud-hour allowances were announced for November, not yet active.
Check a family member’s reported Xbox activity
Microsoft Family Safety reports Xbox apps and games used and screen time for a connected family member. It is not documented as a log of each cloud session’s start and end times. The organizer needs access to the person through the Microsoft family group; Microsoft says only organizers can enable, disable, and view activity reporting. See Microsoft’s activity-reporting instructions.

- Connect the family member’s account and device to Microsoft Family Safety.
- In the Family Safety app, select the family member and turn on Activity reporting for Xbox. On the web, sign in to the family account, open the family member’s card, and enable Xbox reporting.
- Open that family member’s Xbox report. Choose Apps, features, and games to see app and game use and duration. The screen-time view can show daily and weekly device-use information.
Xbox activity can be reported while the account is still signed in, even if someone else is using the console. Microsoft advises the child to sign out when finished.
Set a time limit for an app or game
App/game limits set a daily allowance and the times when a selected app or game can be used. They are different from a schedule for the whole Xbox device. Microsoft’s screen-time limit instructions describe limits across connected Windows, Xbox, and Android devices.

- In Family Safety, select the family member and choose the Windows/Xbox platform.
- Open Set time limits > Apps, features, and games and enable App and game limits.
- Select the app or game, then set its daily allowance and permitted time window. On the web, use the family member’s Windows/Xbox platform and the Apps, features, and games tab at the Microsoft family account site.
This app/game control does not set a timer for website use. Microsoft says time limits do not work on websites, though related sites can be blocked through its settings.
Set permitted hours for the Xbox device
A device schedule sets the hours when a family member may use the Xbox, rather than a separate allowance for one game. In the Family Safety app or website, select the family member, choose the Xbox platform, and set permitted hours and time ranges for each day. The controls are for accounts in the family group; they do not give a non-organizer access to another family member’s screen-time information. See Xbox family settings.

Understand why a report may differ from the limit
A screen-time report and an enforced limit do not necessarily count time the same way. Microsoft says the limit countdown begins at sign-in and can include idle time, while idle time may not appear in the device usage report. Its example describes a child being locked out after signing in and remaining idle even though the report might show only one minute of use. Xbox says the countdown stops when the person signs out; it is a parental screen-time control, not a measure of active minutes spent in a cloud-gaming session. Read Microsoft’s screen-time troubleshooting guidance.
- Have the player sign out when finished, rather than leaving the account signed in.
- If activity appears under the wrong day, check that the account’s time zone is correct.

| Game Pass tier | Announced monthly cloud hours |
|---|---|
| Ultimate | 15 hours |
| Premium | 10 hours |
| Essential | 5 hours |
These figures are the announced monthly allowances, not a record of past sessions. PC Gamer reported that Xbox estimated the change would affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers; that is Xbox’s estimate, not an independently measured usage statistic. The report also said Xbox would provide more information in November about pricing, buying extra hours, eligible games, market availability, and how to check remaining time. It did not establish a remaining-hours menu path, so no precise navigation can be given from the information available as of October 4.
