To check a Nintendo Switch 2 game’s version, highlight the game on the HOME Menu without opening it, press + or −, and read the number displayed beneath the software title. That is the game’s version—not the console’s system menu version.
Find a game’s version from the HOME Menu
- Go to the Nintendo Switch 2 HOME Menu.
- Highlight the game or application you want to check. Do not start it.
- Press + or − to open its software menu.
- Read the version number displayed under the software title. Nintendo’s instructions confirm that the current version appears there: Nintendo Support: How to Update Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.
Game version vs. system menu version
The number in the game’s software menu identifies that game’s version. The console has a separate system menu version, which you can find under System Settings > System > System Update. Nintendo explains where to check it in its system menu version instructions.

Nintendo also documents a local option for matching software versions with other users. It does not require internet access, but it is a separate route from checking for an update via the internet. The available software menu options can vary by application; see Nintendo’s guidance on accessing a software’s menu options.
