Then choose that same token and network in the sending wallet or exchange, and check the address and any required memo or tag before confirming. A ticker alone does not identify a blockchain, and a transfer sent through an unsupported route may not be credited or recoverable.
How to check which network to use for USDT or USDC
- Open the recipient’s official Deposit or Receive flow. Select the exact asset, such as USDC or USDT, rather than a generic crypto deposit option.
- Choose a network offered for that asset. Read the recipient’s full network label; names and abbreviations may differ between services.
- Copy the address for that exact selection. Use the displayed address or its QR code. Record any required memo, destination tag, or other routing field.
- Set up the send on the other side. In the sending wallet or exchange, select the same stablecoin and matching network. Make sure you are using a direct send or withdrawal, not a bridge or swap flow.
- Compare the destination details. Check that the address matches the recipient’s deposit instructions and enter any required memo or tag.
- Check support for your account and region. Confirm the recipient accepts deposits of that exact token on that network. If the options or labels do not match, pause and consult the recipient’s official instructions or support.
- Review the final transaction summary. After sending, use the sender’s transaction record or the relevant chain explorer to check status. The recipient may require confirmations before crediting a deposit.
This process verifies the route shown by the recipient; it does not guarantee that a service will credit a particular deposit. The recipient’s live instructions and support terms govern the transfer.

Why the stablecoin ticker does not tell you the blockchain
USDC and USDT are available across multiple blockchain networks. The same ticker can therefore refer to tokens on different chains, and a platform may support only some of the networks or token versions supported by an issuer.

Tether lists USD₮ on protocols including Ethereum, Tron, and Solana. Its supported-protocol page also says it is no longer issuing or obligated to redeem Tether Tokens on some protocols, including Omni Layer and Algorand. The ticker “USDT” alone does not tell you which network a transfer uses. See Tether’s supported protocols.
Recipient support can be narrower than issuer support, and may differ for deposits versus withdrawals, native versus bridged tokens, accounts, or regions. For example, Coinbase’s cited deposit help page lists USDC on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche C-Chain, Polygon, Solana, Base, and Optimism. Use the recipient service’s current asset and network selector for the route you are about to use, not an old saved address or a list from another platform. See Coinbase’s deposit instructions.

Do the sending and receiving networks have to match?
For a direct transfer, select the same network on the sending and receiving sides, and use the address issued for that receiving route. A familiar-looking address does not make a different network safe: an EVM-style 0x address, for example, can appear on several chains.
Some services issue different deposit addresses depending on the token and network. ether.fi explains that its main Cash Vault address differs from provider deposit addresses, and that EVM, Solana, and Tron routes have separate address instructions. Its guidance is to select the token and network and use the address displayed for that choice. Read ether.fi’s deposit network and address instructions.

A network not listed for the exact token may be unsupported at that service. Blockchain.com likewise advises checking the supported token/network combination. A transaction can succeed on-chain yet fail to credit the intended account if the recipient does not support that route. See Blockchain.com’s multichain deposit and withdrawal guidance.
If you intentionally need to move a token to another chain, treat that as a separate bridge workflow. Verify the source and destination chains, token version, wallet, recipient route, and fees before proceeding; do not treat a bridge as an ordinary send.

How to choose between supported networks
Compare network options only after verifying that the exact token and route are supported for both the sender’s withdrawal and recipient’s deposit.
- Compatibility: Is this exact token version and network available on both services for your account and region?
- Total cost: Check the sender’s withdrawal fee and any network or service charges shown for the transfer.
- Crediting requirements: Check the recipient’s current confirmation or processing requirements. These vary by network and platform, so do not assume a fixed arrival time.
- Address and routing fields: Does the selected deposit flow provide an address for this route, and does it require a memo or tag?
A lower fee or faster network is not a useful choice if the recipient cannot credit it.
What to do if you already sent the transfer
- Check the sending service’s transaction record and get the transaction hash.
- Confirm the actual network and destination from that record or the relevant blockchain explorer.
- Contact the recipient through its official support channel. Provide the asset, network, destination address, transaction hash, and any memo or tag details.
Do not assume the recipient can recover a mistaken transfer. Circle’s USDC Terms state that an initiated on-chain transaction to a third party cannot be reversed or recalled by Circle. Its Help Center also warns that funds sent to a wrong network or address may be unrecoverable. Read Circle’s USDC Terms and Circle’s explanation of irreversible transfers.
