A Roku remote with replaceable batteries takes either AA or AAA cells; the correct size is printed inside its battery compartment. Some Roku remotes have rechargeable batteries instead, so check the remote before buying replacements.
How to find the right battery size
- Open the battery compartment. Look for the AA or AAA marking inside; Roku does not use one size across all replaceable-battery remotes. Roku’s battery guidance identifies the compartment label as the instruction for your remote.
- Check whether the remote is rechargeable. Roku lists a rechargeable battery as a Voice Remote Pro feature. Its TV overview says Select Series TVs come with standard-battery voice remotes, while Plus and Pro Series TVs come with rechargeable voice remotes. - Match the size exactly. Buy AA or AAA only as marked in the compartment. The available guidance does not map every remote model to a battery size, so the compartment label is the model-specific reference.
What kind of replacement batteries to use
For a remote with replaceable cells, Roku recommends consumer-grade, non-rechargeable carbon-zinc or alkaline batteries. Replace the full set at once; Roku also recommends using batteries from the same manufacturer when possible. The advice is about compatible cell types, not a required brand. - Follow the positive and negative marks in the compartment. Depending on the remote model, the two batteries may face opposite directions.
- Use fresh batteries and replace all cells together.
- Do not use batteries that are damaged, deformed, or leaking.
- If the remote has a rechargeable battery, use its charging connection rather than inserting disposable cells.
