The EZVIZ EP8 Ultra is a strong premium smart doorbell if you want a clear view of both visitors and parcels, local video storage and a spare battery in the box. Its dual-camera coverage and visitor video calls stand out, but the bulky unit and battery use from its screen and other features are meaningful compromises.

Is the EZVIZ EP8 Ultra worth buying?

For households that value a broad doorstep view and flexible visitor interaction, it is a compelling option. Expert Reviews’ Alun Taylor reviewed it at £139 on 17 September 2026 and rated it alongside the Tapo D235 among his preferred doorbells. He highlighted the combination of dual cameras, built-in storage, video calls and an included spare battery. That is the reviewer’s verdict, not a claim that the EP8 Ultra suits every installation: its bulk and feature-related battery consumption could be deal-breakers.

Prices can change quickly. T3 reported an Amazon promotion at £99.99, against a stated £139.99 original price, on 6 October 2026; that was a dated offer, not confirmation of today’s price or stock. Check the live UK listing before deciding whether the deal is worthwhile.

What do the two cameras show?

EZVIZ specifies a 6MP main camera capturing at 2464 × 2464 and a 2MP downward-facing camera capturing at 1920 × 1080. The upper camera provides the main visitor view; the lower one is aimed at the doorstep, where a parcel might otherwise sit outside the frame.

Expert Reviews found the lower view less sharp than the main image, but adequate for packages. At the recommended installation height, the two views overlap, helping cover the doorstep without a blind spot. The reviewer also praised the main image’s dynamic range when wide dynamic range and distortion correction were enabled. Both cameras support colour night vision; the review describes infrared monochrome and mixed night-vision modes as additional options.

Placement matters: the intended coverage depends on mounting the unit at the recommended height. A doorbell mounted unusually high or low may not give the same overlap, so check the view during setup rather than assuming the second camera compensates for every position.

Does it need a subscription?

No subscription is required to use the doorbell’s built-in 32GB eMMC storage, according to EZVIZ’s product specifications. EZVIZ also offers CloudPlay cloud storage as a subscription service. Local storage and optional cloud storage are distinct: the presence of built-in memory does not mean cloud retention or every related feature is free.

How does it handle visitors and alerts?

A small OLED screen lets visitors make two-way video calls. Expert Reviews found this useful with familiar visitors, and the screen can also show one of three character animations—a raccoon, panda or husky—when motion is detected or the button is pressed. The reviewer found that screen use and other active features can reduce battery life, and wanted an option to disable the avatars while keeping answered video calls.

EZVIZ lists human-shape and package detection. In the reviewer’s testing, both worked as advertised; familiar-face detection was described as beta. The reviewer also noted there is no general alert option for any motion. That may suit a home facing a busy pavement, where broad motion notifications could be noisy, but it limits the doorbell for anyone who wants an alert for all movement.

Expert Reviews measured doorbell-press alerts reaching both phone and chime in under 1.5 seconds. Its 2026 buying guide also reports phone alerts averaging under 1.5 seconds. These are the publisher’s test results, not a guaranteed response time for every network, phone or installation.

What comes in the kit, and what are the trade-offs?

EZVIZ specifies a 9,600mAh rechargeable battery and includes a spare battery. The kit also lists a chime, mounting bracket, angled mounting bracket, Type-C cable, screws, connectors and installation materials. Expert Reviews considered the spare particularly convenient: one battery can be charging while the other powers the doorbell.

The main drawbacks in the review are the unit’s bulk, battery consumption when its screen and other features are active, and the lack of an anti-theft alarm. Expert Reviews measured the unit at 382g and 155 × 54 × 35mm; the manufacturer’s displayed dimensions differ substantially, so treat the reviewer’s figures as that review’s measurements rather than a definitive manufacturer specification. Check the physical fit and mounting space before buying.

EZVIZ lists 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, two-way talk, human-shape and package detection, and IP65 ingress protection for the CS-EP8 Ultra. For installation planning, note the Wi-Fi band and confirm that the mounting location has a suitable connection.

How it compares with other premium doorbells

Expert Reviews’ September 2026 review ranked the EP8 Ultra alongside the Tapo D235, while its 2026 guide named the EZVIZ the best overall video doorbell. The reviewer described the Tapo as a current favourite and the Eufy E340 as more expensive, but the available coverage does not establish current, directly comparable prices for those alternatives. Compare live UK pricing and check the features that matter for your home—especially coverage, storage, mounting fit, power options and theft protection—rather than relying on an old price ranking.
