Use Windows to identify your model, processor, memory, storage and any NPU, then confirm the NPU rating on the manufacturer’s specification page for that exact configuration. Finally, check the requirements of the particular feature you want: Recall and Automatic Super Resolution, for example, add their own operating-system, driver, security, display, game or free-space conditions.

What Copilot+ eligibility actually means
Copilot+ is a hardware class within Windows 11, not another name for Windows 11 itself. Microsoft describes Copilot+ PCs as Windows 11 systems with a high-performance Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI-intensive work. The defining performance requirement in Microsoft’s Copilot+ guidance is an NPU capable of more than 40 TOPS.
The NPU is only one part of the baseline. Microsoft’s Windows specifications also list minimum memory and storage capacities. A computer can show an NPU in Windows and still fall short because the chip is below the performance threshold, the machine has too little memory, or its storage does not meet the required type and capacity.

| Check | Copilot+ baseline | What proves it |
|---|---|---|
| Neural Processing Unit | More than 40 TOPS | The rating for the NPU in the exact processor and PC configuration, confirmed by the manufacturer or Microsoft documentation |
| Memory | At least 16 GB | The installed memory shown in Windows and the exact model specification |
| Storage | At least 256 GB of SSD or UFS storage | The drive type and capacity for the configuration you own |
| Operating system | A supported Windows 11 release | Your installed Windows version and the feature’s own version requirement |
These are class-level requirements. They do not guarantee that every Copilot+ experience will appear or operate on every qualifying machine. Features can require particular processors, drivers, displays, security settings, free space, games, regions or app versions.
Start with the exact model and configuration
Do not begin with a family name such as a product series. One family can be sold with different processors, memory amounts and storage devices, and those differences can change Copilot+ eligibility.
Find the model in Windows
- Open Settings and go to System > About. Record the device name, model, processor and installed RAM.
- For a fuller identification, press
Windows+R, entermsinfo32, and note System Manufacturer, System Model and Processor in System Information. - Compare those details with the product label, invoice or the support page for the computer. A retailer’s short name may omit a processor suffix or memory and storage options that matter.
Write down the complete model or product number before looking up specifications. If the support page lists several configurations, match the processor, memory and drive capacity to your machine rather than accepting the first result.
Why configuration identity matters
Eligibility follows the hardware installed in your PC, not the name printed on the lid. Two laptops with the same family name may use different processors; one may include a qualifying NPU while another has no NPU or a lower-rated one. Removable or upgradeable memory and storage can also change the result, although adding capacity cannot turn an underpowered NPU into a qualifying one.
Inspect the hardware Windows can see
Look for an NPU in Task Manager
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. - Select Performance in the left navigation.
- Look for an entry labelled NPU alongside CPU, memory, disk and other devices. On supported systems, Task Manager can display NPU activity and performance information.
An NPU entry is useful evidence that the machine contains an NPU, but it is not a certification of Copilot+ eligibility. Task Manager does not by itself establish that the NPU exceeds 40 TOPS, nor does it check storage type, feature-specific security or the requirements of a particular experience.
Confirm processor and memory
In Settings > System > About, check the processor name and the installed RAM. You can also select Performance > Memory in Task Manager to see the currently installed amount. Record the value as installed memory, not the amount that happens to be free while applications are running.
If Windows reports less than 16 GB installed, the PC does not meet the stated Copilot+ memory baseline. If it reports 16 GB or more, continue checking the exact model specification because shared graphics memory, soldered modules and configuration differences can affect what is actually installed.

Open Settings > System > Storage to see the capacity of the Windows drive. Windows may show a smaller usable figure than the advertised capacity because of formatting and system partitions. The specification you need to verify is at least 256 GB of SSD or UFS storage for the configuration, not simply a large amount of free space at the moment.

Task Manager’s Performance > Disk view can help identify the drive and may label its type, but use the manufacturer’s specification or support documentation when the type is unclear. A hard disk drive or an unspecified flash device should not be assumed to satisfy a requirement that names SSD or UFS.
Verify that the NPU exceeds 40 TOPS
The most important step is matching the NPU performance rating to the exact processor and PC. Search the manufacturer’s specification page using the complete model or product number and the processor name you recorded. Look for an explicit NPU or AI-processor TOPS figure.
Microsoft’s wording is more than 40 TOPS, so treat 40 TOPS exactly as a borderline value rather than automatically rounding it up. Do not infer the rating from the presence of an NPU, the word AI in a processor name, or a marketing statement that gives no TOPS value.
When the specification is ambiguous
- If the page names an NPU but gives no TOPS rating, the page confirms its presence but does not prove that the Copilot+ threshold is met.
- If the processor family has several variants, check the variant in your PC. A rating for a faster or newer member of the family may not apply to yours.
- If a support page lists a range of memory, storage or processors, treat each combination as a separate configuration and match all three parts.
- If the manufacturer and Windows identify the hardware differently, use the model number, processor identifier and support documentation together before deciding.
For a defensible result, you should be able to state the exact NPU rating, where it came from, and how it maps to the processor and model in your machine. If you cannot establish that mapping, mark NPU eligibility as unconfirmed instead of assuming that the PC qualifies.
Check the feature you actually want to use
Passing the Copilot+ class baseline does not make every feature universal. Microsoft documents additional conditions for individual experiences, and those conditions can change as Windows releases and drivers are updated.
Recall
Recall requires a qualifying secured-core Copilot+ device in addition to the Copilot+ hardware baseline. Microsoft lists a 40 TOPS NPU, the memory and storage requirements, at least 50 GB of free space to enable the feature, encryption, and Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security with a biometric option.
Check these conditions on the same machine you assessed for Copilot+. Having 50 GB free is different from owning a 256 GB drive: the former is an enablement condition that can change as files are added. If Recall will not enable, verify free space, device security and Windows Hello settings as well as the processor and NPU.
Automatic Super Resolution
Automatic Super Resolution has its own compatibility list. Microsoft identifies supported device or processor classes, Windows 11 version 24H2 or later, a display resolution of 1080p or higher, current drivers and supported games, along with other conditions.

A qualifying NPU therefore does not guarantee that a particular game will offer the feature. Check the game support list, update graphics and system drivers, confirm the Windows release and make sure the display and in-game settings satisfy the feature documentation.
Other Copilot+ experiences
For any other feature, separate the class question from the feature question. First establish the NPU, memory and storage baseline. Then read the feature’s requirements for Windows version, processor class, drivers, security hardware, display, free space, applications, language or region. The feature may be unavailable on a machine that otherwise qualifies as Copilot+.
Windows 11 compatibility and the Copilot app are separate
A PC that meets Windows 11’s minimum requirements is not automatically a Copilot+ PC. Windows 11 defines an operating-system baseline, while Copilot+ adds a high-performance NPU and additional hardware requirements. Microsoft also documents installing or accessing the Copilot app on Windows; app availability does not certify the computer’s NPU or unlock every Copilot+ experience.
Use this distinction when troubleshooting. If the Copilot app opens, that answers an app-access question. It does not answer whether Recall, Automatic Super Resolution or another local Copilot+ feature can run on the hardware.
Account for Windows versions, drivers and servicing
Microsoft’s current Copilot+ component documentation covers Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2, 26H1 and 26H2, with components serviced through Windows Update. The feature set can therefore change when Windows updates add, revise or retire components.
- Open Settings > Windows Update and install available updates, including optional driver updates when the feature documentation calls for current drivers.
- In Settings > System > About, record the Windows edition and version. Use
winverif you need the exact version and build. - After updating, recheck the feature’s requirements. A feature designed for 24H2 or later may not appear on an earlier release even when the hardware qualifies.
Availability can also depend on region, language, device configuration and staged software rollout. A missing feature immediately after an update is not conclusive evidence that the hardware fails; compare the documented requirements and rollout status for that feature.

Task Manager shows no NPU
Confirm that you are viewing the current Windows installation and that Task Manager is updated. Recheck the exact processor and model specification. If the manufacturer documentation does not list an NPU for that configuration, treat the PC as not Copilot+ eligible. If it does list one, install the manufacturer’s supported chipset and system drivers, restart, and inspect Task Manager again. Driver visibility still does not replace the TOPS check.

An NPU appears, but the TOPS value is missing
Use the manufacturer’s exact specification or Microsoft’s documentation for that processor. Do not substitute a value from another model in the same family. Until a reliable rating shows more than 40 TOPS, the Copilot+ requirement is unconfirmed.

The NPU qualifies, but memory or storage does not
Check the installed configuration rather than the maximum supported upgrade. A system with less than 16 GB of memory or less than 256 GB of SSD or UFS storage fails the stated class baseline. If the machine supports an upgrade, adding capacity may address that component, but it cannot remedy a non-qualifying NPU.
The PC qualifies, but a feature is missing
Check the feature-specific conditions first: Windows release, driver version, display resolution, supported application or game, encryption, biometric sign-in, free space and regional availability. For Recall, inspect secured-core status, encryption, Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security and the 50 GB free-space condition. For Automatic Super Resolution, check the supported processor or device class, 1080p-or-higher display, current drivers and supported game.
The model page lists several possible configurations
Use the serial number, product number or service tag to narrow the result. If that is not available, match the processor name, installed memory and drive capacity shown in Windows to one configuration. When more than one configuration remains possible, report the result as uncertain rather than claiming eligibility for the whole product family.

When deciding whether another computer is a better Copilot+ candidate, compare the complete configurations on the following axes:
| Comparison axis | Questions to answer | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| NPU | What is the exact NPU, and is its rating more than 40 TOPS? | An NPU’s presence alone is insufficient. |
| Memory | How much memory is installed in the actual configuration? | The baseline is at least 16 GB. |
| Storage | Is the drive SSD or UFS, and is its capacity at least 256 GB? | Storage type and capacity are both relevant. |
| Target feature | Does the feature add requirements for security, drivers, display, games or free space? | Class eligibility does not guarantee feature compatibility. |
| Software and availability | Which Windows release, drivers and regional rollout apply? | Software servicing and availability can change the result. |
Compare exact configurations side by side, not broad processor or product-family names. If your current PC fails only a capacity requirement and supports a practical upgrade, evaluate that option separately. If it lacks a qualifying NPU, a hardware upgrade to memory or storage will not create Copilot+ capability.
What to do if your PC is not eligible
You can continue using Windows 11 and the Microsoft Copilot app without treating the computer as a Copilot+ PC. The Copilot+ classification matters when you specifically want hardware-dependent experiences such as Recall or Automatic Super Resolution.
If those features are important and your current configuration cannot meet the NPU requirement, compare an eligible Copilot+ PC by the same checklist: exact NPU rating, installed memory, SSD or UFS capacity, target-feature requirements, Windows version, drivers and regional availability. Verify the precise model before purchase because a product family can contain both qualifying and non-qualifying configurations.

- Record the exact model, product number and processor.
- Use Task Manager and Windows system information to inspect the NPU, memory and storage.
- Confirm from the exact manufacturer specification that the NPU exceeds 40 TOPS.
- Verify at least 16 GB of installed memory and at least 256 GB of SSD or UFS storage.
- Check the Windows release and current drivers.
- Read the requirements for the particular Copilot+ feature, including security, display, free-space, game, app and regional conditions.
- Classify the result as eligible, not eligible or unconfirmed when a required specification cannot be established.
This process prevents the three most common mistakes: treating Windows 11 as proof of Copilot+ support, treating an NPU listing as proof of 40-plus TOPS performance, and assuming that qualifying hardware guarantees every Copilot+ feature.
