What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Use Microsoft’s PC Health Check app for a direct Windows 11 compatibility result: open the app and select Check now in the Windows 11 section. Then check Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update on Windows 10 to see whether Microsoft is offering the upgrade to your device. Passing the hardware check means your PC meets the stated requirements; it does not guarantee that an upgrade is available immediately.
Check eligibility with PC Health Check
- Search Windows for PC Health Check and open the app. If it is not installed, download it from Microsoft’s official page: aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp.
- In the Windows 11 section, select Check now.
- Read the result and any explanation of requirements your PC does not meet. Microsoft describes PC Health Check as its guided way to assess eligibility and identify why a device may not qualify. See Microsoft’s PC Health Check guide.
Check whether Windows Update is offering the upgrade
On Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, then select Check for updates. Windows Update assesses whether that particular device meets the requirements and indicates when an upgrade is ready. Microsoft’s Windows 11 requirements page says an upgrade through Windows Update requires Windows 10 version 2004 or later; Microsoft’s eligibility guidance also specifies a currently supported Windows 10 version.

The two checks answer related but different questions: PC Health Check explains hardware eligibility, while Windows Update shows whether the upgrade is currently being offered to the device. Microsoft stages releases, and a compatibility safeguard hold can delay an offer if a known issue could disrupt the experience. See Microsoft’s Windows 11 upgrade guidance.
What Windows 11 checks for
Microsoft’s published minimum requirements include all of the following:
#1 Best Overall
- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- A processor running at 1 GHz or faster, with at least two cores, that appears on Microsoft’s approved processor list.
- At least 4 GB of RAM and a storage device of at least 64 GB.
- UEFI firmware that is Secure Boot capable, and TPM version 2.0.
- DirectX 12-compatible graphics with a WDDM 2.0 driver.
- A high-definition display greater than 9 inches diagonally, with 8 bits per color channel.
Clock speed and core count alone do not establish processor compatibility: the specific processor must appear on Microsoft’s approved list. Some Windows features also have requirements beyond these minimums. For initial setup of Windows 11 Home or personal-use Pro, Microsoft requires an internet connection and a Microsoft account. Check Microsoft’s full requirements and processor lists for details.
Why a passing check may not produce an upgrade offer
Eligibility and immediate availability are not the same. Microsoft may roll out an update in stages or temporarily hold it for a device with a known compatibility issue. A PC Health Check pass therefore does not promise that Windows Update will offer the upgrade right away.

Availability can also depend on the specific release. In a notice published February 10, 2026, Microsoft said Windows 11 version 26H1 is for select new devices and “is not designed to be offered or installed on existing devices.” The notice also says 26H1 is not an in-place update from Windows 11 versions 24H2 or 25H2. This is guidance for that release, not a general rule for every Windows 11 update. See Microsoft’s version 26H1 notice.

Use the reason shown in PC Health Check to identify what is missing, then consult your PC manufacturer’s instructions before changing firmware settings. Secure Boot capability and TPM configuration may involve firmware, but not every PC can meet every requirement through a setting change; processor support, for example, depends on the model being on Microsoft’s approved list.

If you have changed hardware or firmware settings, run PC Health Check again. Windows Update’s eligibility information may take up to 24 hours to refresh after a hardware change, according to Microsoft’s hardware-change guidance. A newly supported component does not guarantee an immediate upgrade offer.
Do not treat an unofficial installation workaround as proof of eligibility. Microsoft warns that installing without checking through PC Health Check or Windows Update can leave the system unsupported. If this is a work- or school-managed PC, contact the IT administrator: Microsoft says its consumer assessment options are intended for PCs that are not managed by an IT administrator.
