To check One UI update eligibility, find your phone’s exact model in Settings > About phone, then compare it with Samsung’s current update schedule for the relevant country. To see whether an update is available to install now, check Settings > Software update > Download and install. Eligibility and current availability are separate: an eligible phone may not yet be in its rollout wave.
1. Find the installed One UI version and exact phone model
- Open Settings > About phone and note the full model name or number. Use the exact model rather than relying on a family name such as “Galaxy S21.”
- Open Settings > About phone > Software information. Record the One UI version, Android version and build number shown there.
These details tell you what is installed; they do not establish whether Samsung will offer another major update.

2. Check whether Samsung lists your model for the update
Look up Samsung’s current One UI upgrade schedule for the country where the phone was sold or is being used, and match your exact model. Schedules may distinguish between models in the same product family. For example, Samsung’s US One UI 8 list includes the Galaxy S21 FE but not the other Galaxy S21 models, so one model’s listing is not proof that its siblings qualify. Samsung’s India One UI 8 schedule, last updated October 1, 2026, says its eligible models and schedule can change; features and timing may vary by model, country and network operator. That India schedule is not a worldwide list. Check the relevant Samsung support page for your market, and read whether the update is marked available, scheduled or expected.
For a US example, consult Samsung’s One UI 8 eligible-device list. Do not treat a regional schedule as universal or assume that a listing guarantees an update is already downloadable.

3. Check whether an update is available to install now
- Open Settings > Software update > Download and install.
- If the phone uses different labels, look for System updates, then Check for system updates or Check for software updates.
- Follow the phone’s instructions if an update is offered. If it reports that the software is up to date, that means no newer update is being offered through that check at that time; it does not by itself settle future eligibility.
Samsung’s software update guidance covers checking for updates. The exact menu can vary with model and carrier.
4. If your listed phone has no update offer
Samsung and carriers release updates in stages, so an update can be announced or scheduled without reaching every phone at once. Country, network operator and device variant can affect timing. Samsung says carrier-branded updates may be delayed for carrier review and customization. Its US troubleshooting guidance also notes that some SIM-unlocked phones may need a SIM card from the original carrier, and recommends checking carrier update information.

- Confirm that you checked the schedule for the correct country and exact model.
- If Samsung or your carrier says the release has begun for that device, try again later over Wi-Fi.
- If the phone is SIM-unlocked, check whether the original carrier’s SIM is required for that variant.
- Check the carrier’s update information if the phone was sold through a carrier.
- Consider Samsung Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac: Samsung describes it as an alternative way to install an update that is available for the connected phone.

Samsung’s February 9, 2022 announcement promised up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades and up to five years of security updates for select Galaxy devices. It named selected Galaxy S22 and S21 models, foldables and tablets; it also said devices outside that four-generation group could receive up to three generations under the policy described in that announcement. These are selective, historical policy figures—not a guarantee for every Galaxy phone or a substitute for checking the exact model’s current schedule. Samsung noted that availability and timing can vary by device model and Android OS timing. Read the Samsung announcement on Galaxy OS upgrade support for its scope.
