1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteLook at where the power plug enters the graphics card: it should be fully inserted and sit flush and evenly against the receptacle. A visible gap or uneven fit does not pass NVIDIA’s visual check. If you need to reseat it, shut down the PC and disconnect it from power first, then follow the instructions for your exact card and power supply.
What a correctly seated connector looks like
NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 User Guide, Revision 2 states: “Attention: Ensure the power plug is fully inserted and seated flush against the power receptacle.” Its illustration marks a flush, even fit as correct and a gapped or uneven fit as incorrect.

Inspect the junction between the plug and the graphics card’s power receptacle. The plug should sit evenly against the receptacle, without a visible gap. NVIDIA does not specify a gap measurement or provide a numeric tolerance; use the illustrated flush-fit check rather than trying to judge a particular distance.

How to check and reseat it safely
- Check the fit. Look closely at the point where the plug enters the card. If it appears gapped or uneven, do not treat it as fully seated.
- Power down before handling it. Shut down the PC and disconnect it from power before unplugging or reseating the connector.
- Follow the exact product instructions. Use the instructions for your specific RTX 5090 card and power supply when disconnecting and reconnecting the plug. Confirm that it is fully inserted and sits flush and evenly before powering on.
For a new installation, NVIDIA recommends connecting the power dongle to the graphics card first, checking that it is firmly and evenly plugged in, and then installing the card in the motherboard. This lets you check the connection before access becomes more difficult.

Which cable or adapter should you use?
NVIDIA’s product page describes two power-connection routes for the Founders Edition. They are not universal instructions for every RTX 5090: NVIDIA notes that specifications vary by add-in-card manufacturer. Check the documentation for your exact card and PSU to confirm compatibility and the required connection method.
| Founders Edition route | What to verify |
|---|---|
| NVIDIA-included adapter with PCIe 8-pin cables | Check that the adapter and cables are compatible with your exact card and PSU, and follow their manufacturers’ connection instructions. |
| PCIe Gen 5 power cable | Check that the cable is compatible with your exact card and PSU, and follow their manufacturers’ connection instructions. |
What the visual check cannot tell you
NVIDIA’s guide establishes a visual seating criterion; it does not give a special in-case inspection method or say that a click, a particular gap measurement, or a software readout proves the connector is seated. If you cannot clearly inspect the fit after installation, consult the exact card maker’s instructions rather than relying on an unverified shortcut.

- 【Compatibility】Designed specifically for RTX 4090 and RTX 5090 graphics cards, and fully compatible with ATX 3.0/3.1 power supplies.
- 【650W & PCIe 5.0】Complies with PCIe 5.0 standards, featuring 16AWG thickened alloy copper cores. This design delivers greater current capacity and lower voltage drop, ensuring stable operation without frame drops.
- 【Premium 16AWG Material】The internal core conductor boasts ultra-low resistance, so it won’t overheat during long hours of full-load operation. The thickened wire enhances heat dissipation and current transmission efficiency, meeting the strict stability requirements of professional gamers
- 【Fixed Length】Exclusively 15.75 in (40cm) long, this cable fits perfectly in both compact ITX cases and full-tower setups. Its split wire design allows for easy cable management.
- 【Injection-Molded Reinforcement】The connector and wire root are integrated via secondary injection molding, effectively preventing loose connections, overheating, and bending damage.
NVIDIA lists 850 W as the minimum system power for its Founders Edition setup and says a higher rating may be required depending on system configuration. That is power-supply selection context, not a test of whether the plug is seated, and it should not be applied automatically to every add-in card.
