Deleting an app does not cancel a subscription, and changing plans is not the same as stopping renewal.
First, find out who bills your subscription
Open the service’s account or subscription screen and look for the billing provider. If it is not clear, check your payment statement or the account for the internet, mobile, or TV provider through which you subscribed. The provider shown is usually the place where you must manage cancellation.

For HBO Max/Max, the subscription screen in the web account or app identifies the billing party. If a cancel button is missing there, a third party may control the subscription. Max lists Apple, Google Play, Samsung, and internet, mobile, or TV providers as possible billing routes; availability and screen labels can vary by location. Max’s cancellation instructions explain how to locate the provider and where to cancel.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For Paramount+, the route depends on how you subscribed. Under the Paramount+ US terms, website subscriptions are managed in the account, app-store subscriptions through the app-store account, and subscriptions obtained through another service through that third party. Those terms apply to the United States; customers elsewhere should check the terms and cancellation instructions for their territory.

Cancel HBO Max/Max through the billing provider
If Max bills you directly
- Sign in to the service’s subscription page, or open the app and select your profile, then Subscription. On a TV, the help page describes opening Settings and then Subscription.
- Check the billing provider displayed at the top. If it says Max, select Cancel Your Subscription on the subscription page and complete the confirmation steps.
- Record the expiration date shown after cancellation. Directly billed subscribers can generally keep using Max until the subscription expires at the end of the billing period.
If another company bills you
Cancel in that company’s account, not by deleting the Max app or relying only on the streaming account. The official help page lists these routes:
- Apple: On the device, go to Settings → your account name → Subscriptions → HBO Max → Cancel Subscription.
- Google Play: Open the Play Store and go to profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → HBO Max → Cancel subscription.
- Samsung: Open Samsung Checkout and go to Purchase History → Subscriptions → HBO Max → Unsubscribe.
- Internet, mobile, or TV provider: Use that provider’s website or help center, or contact its customer service.
Provider names and menu labels may differ by location or change over time. Max explicitly states, “Deleting the HBO Max app does not cancel your subscription.” See Max’s cancellation guidance for the current route.
Rank #2

Cancel Paramount+ through the billing provider
If you subscribed on the Paramount+ website in the US
Open the Paramount+ Account page and manage or cancel the subscription there. Under the US terms, an auto-renewing subscription must be canceled before the next renewal date—or before a fully covered free-trial or promotional period ends—to avoid the next renewal. A direct cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the current billing period, so access may continue until then. Fees already paid generally are not refunded, subject to applicable legal exceptions. Read the Paramount+ US terms.
If an app store or another service bills you
Use that provider’s subscription controls and cancellation instructions. Canceling only through the Paramount+ account may not stop payments controlled by an app store, partner, or other service.
Rank #3
- Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
- Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
- Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
- No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.
Do not mistake account deletion for cancellation
Account deletion is different from turning off renewal. Paramount+ US terms say deleting an account may end access immediately and may forfeit remaining gift-card credit. They also say app-store recurring payments must be canceled first. If your goal is to stop future billing while retaining access for paid time, use the ordinary cancellation route instead of deleting the account. Check the US terms; rules may differ elsewhere.
Changing a plan does not necessarily stop renewal
After changing a plan, check both the active plan and the next renewal date in the account that manages billing. The timing below is specified in the Paramount+ US terms for direct website subscriptions; app-store, partner, and other third-party changes follow that provider’s terms.
Rank #4
- Unlimited movies, TV shows, and more. Watch anywhere. Cancel anytime.
- Give the gift of entertainment so your friends and family can stream unlimited films and Netflix original series. Whether your loved one already has a Netflix account or they will be creating a new account, they can use a Netflix gift card toward their membership.
- No credit card is required to redeem a gift code.
- Codes are applied to your account as a gift balance. Gift codes can be added to any plan, regardless of the amount.
- Redemption: Online
| Direct Paramount+ website change in the US | When it takes effect |
|---|---|
| Upgrade | When the change is completed; unused days may be credited. |
| Downgrade | At the end of the current billing period. |
These plan changes do not by themselves mean that auto-renewal has been canceled. For the applicable terms, see Paramount+’s US terms.
If you were charged after canceling
A charge after a cancellation attempt can have more than one explanation. Check the billing account and dates before treating the charge as an error.
- Check the subscription status with the billing provider. For Max, a canceled direct subscription may show a resume option rather than a cancel option. If another company bills you, check its subscription status. Max’s unexpected-charge guidance includes status-check steps.
- Compare the charge date with the cancellation and end dates. A payment may be for a billing period already underway, while access remains available until the period ends. Search your email for a cancellation confirmation, but remember that not receiving an email alone does not prove cancellation failed.
- Check the provider’s cancellation deadline. Some Max billing providers require cancellation at least 24 hours before the next billing period. This is provider-dependent, not a universal Max deadline. Confirm the rule with the company that bills you.
- Look for another account or billing route. Search other email addresses you use and check app-store, device-platform, telecom, TV, or partner accounts. Max identifies multiple accounts with separate active subscriptions as one possible cause of repeated charges.
- Check whether the amount changed rather than the renewal continuing unexpectedly. A promotional period ending, a different plan, taxes, country, or a provider-billed bundle can affect the amount. Review the invoice and plan details before comparing charges.
- Contact the company that collected the payment. For a provider-specific deadline or subscription, contact that provider. For direct billing, contact the streaming service. Include the charge date, amount, account email, and any cancellation confirmation.
Max’s guidance for unexpected charges covers provider timing, account status, multiple accounts, and other possible explanations.
